MediocreBeats Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Alright, I think this one is simple (I hope). Basically I have an 808 I want to turn into a sub. Is there a way I can easily do this without making it sound terrible?
Byron Dickens Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Forgive my ignorance but what exactly, perchance, is "turning an 808 into a sub?" I am guessing that the "808" is a Roland TR808 drum machine (or samples/ VSTi tthereof. Beyond that, I am clueless.
MediocreBeats Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 Essentially I have a short 808 sample. I have the audio file but that's it. I want to loop it so it plays infinitely.
Byron Dickens Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Thanks for the clarification. So if I understand you correctly, you're not wanting this to repeat indefinitely but to sustain until you release a key. Correct?
MediocreBeats Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 Yes, essentially. I just want to create a sample( say 10 seconds long )and I can use it inside of a sampler from there
MediocreBeats Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 Basically I want to take the basic waveshape of the 808 and extend it, then use it in a sampler.
MediocreBeats Posted September 19, 2021 Author Posted September 19, 2021 And my apologies for being unclear.
Byron Dickens Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 No worries. That's why I asked. You might be able to do that with a soundfont editor or sampler. Not just a player, but one where you can edit. Unless it's too short to set good loop points. You might also be able to craft such a sound with a synthesizer. You would make a drum sound but crank the decay and sustain way up in the envelope. I'm sure someone else around here can give you a better answer.
John Vere Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 There’s also possible the ability to take the sample and manipulate it in a wave editor
Kurre Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I would think extending a wave makes it sound different. But... https://www.audiopluginsforfree.com/paulxstretch/ You probably have to make a timeselection and loop it to hear something from paulxstretch. Maybe those could help in some way?
treesha Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I use melodyne studio to extend notes but they don’t always retain the sound well if it is a too long stretch
arlicht Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I think you can try to use Serato Sample - it have industry acclaimed ''pitch'n'time'' algorithm for precise time stretching and pitch shifting and it also is great sampler - especially for EDM and hip-hop producers (there is also possibility to make even scratching). Basically its very similar to Ableton Live sampler. With that you definitely can make your 808 an octave or more downscale and edit your sample to melodical pattern or even pad or sub texture. Serato Sample have full free trial 30 days. Also you can use Celemony Melodyne, or zplane's pitch shifting algorithm, but for EDM/Hip-hop genres best functionality you will get using Ableton Live - it have best tools for creative work with samples. Hope this helps.

Byron Dickens Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 He's not looking to loop the sample so that it repeats. He's looking to transform "boom" into "booooooooooooommmmmmmmmmm"
MediocreBeats Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 Here is a picture of what it looks like. The sample is only about 1 second long and I want to extend it. I would hope it is simple because it sounds like a long 808 that has been shortened. Not sure if this helps but I was hoping for an in-built way to do this in cakewalk
MediocreBeats Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 I have tried several methods which almost always result in a hideous clicking noise constantly playing
Byron Dickens Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 1: Cakewalk has no native way to do this. You need a separate sample editor 2: the clicking us because your edit points are not set to zero crossings.
Beatmakerguy Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Alright, thanks for the help. I think I understand enough. Pretty annoying for 1 808 though.
