Chris Keith
I have a mic that requires phantom power. My audio interface provides the power. When I try to use this mic, I get a ton of delay coming through my headphones. This doesn't happen with my crappy mic that doesn't require power. Can someone help with this? scook
Assuming both mics use the same interface, phantom power does not add latency. The largest contributors to latency (and the two a user has control over) are audio interface buffer settings and plug-in delay compensation. For many interfaces, the interface buffer setting may be adjusted in preferences. Others use software supplied by the interface manufacturer. A quick test to see if plug-in delay compensation is an issue is the FX button in the Mix module. When enabled, this will bypass all effects. If the delay goes away, one or more plug-ins somewhere in the project are causing the delay.
Chris Keith
Yup, turned off all my effects and the latency went away. Thanks!
