Sony Portable DAT - TCD-D7 - not loading tape ..

Hi Guys,

I have an old portable SONY TCD-D7 Dat unit:

 

At the moment if I insert a DAT TAPE you see the screen as above which is fine. However when you press play LOAD appears on the screen, some noises but then it goes back to the screen thats in the pic above.

This is a longshot but just wondering in the past have others had similar issues with DAT recorders inc the TCD-D7 or D8 .. and SOLVED this issue?

I have about 30 old dats that I would like to get stuff off.
