JoeGBradford
Agreed - Mike is an excellent tutor & seems a really nice guy too Edited February 20, 2021 by JoeGBradford
Starship Krupa
Mike is the king for traditional rock band audio work, and I've learned a lot of EDM techniques for Cakewalk from Xel Ohh and E-Woof. Forum favorite ADK Studios is also good (BTW, he took my suggestion to post his issues on the forum and got Los Panaderos to address his biggest issue). Not that I'd discourage Robert McClellan or anyone else for putting together commercial courses. He must believe that he has put together something that people can't get from the other tutorials, so more power to him and his efforts. I'm psyched to see Cakewalk get this kind of attention from someone like Warren. BTW, have you ever watched one of the videos where Warren sings? Based on his speaking voice, I did not expect that singing voice coming out of him.
JoeGBradford
Yes good luck to Robert with this. He has contributed a lot of excellent tutorial and other material for free so I can't imagine anyone would begrudge him success with this course

Maestro
On 2/20/2021 at 5:22 AM, Starship Krupa said: Yes! As things worked out, the SONAR Platinum license holders are getting their updates, and those updates are now developer-driven rather than marketing, so, bonus. To help you feel better, here are some things that people who only started with CbB don't get: Dimension, Drop Zone, Session Drummer, Square 1, Cyclone, PSYN II, Rapture, Z3ta, Lounge Lizard Session, Ultra Analog Session, Strum Session, True Pianos, Addictive Drums, Melodyne, BiFilter, Blue Tubes, BlueVerb, LP EQualizer, LP Multiband compressor, TS transient shaper, Channel Tools, ProChannel modules I'd love to have like Panipulator, Concrete Limiter and PC-2A. Some of those are proprietary Cakewalk products that seem less and less likely to see the light of day as time goes on. They can't be had for any amount of money. Also whatever amount of time you got to use the program between when you bought your license and April 2018.? I don't think that anyone else got over on the SONAR license holders, I'm really grateful that we all bought in and kept the company going for 30 years. I say "we" because I was one myself, back in 2000 or so, around the time that it became "SONAR." Those people probably made out a better, since they get to spend that money on better plug-ins and virtual instruments. Half of the Cakewalk stuff was super old and not updated in like a decade. There wasn't really that much value in a lot of that. Whether they see the light of day is only relevant if they are either throwon into the package as freebies or sold for ridiculously low prices. Otherwise, there are better plug-ins to be had on the market; and many SONAR users used those plug-ins. SONAR license holders who paid for a decade or more deserved to have the DAW developed as aggressively back then as it is now, and it honestly wasn't. BandLab has done what most companies that purchase a product and make it a freebie don't... They've actually made it a better, more attractive product. Imagine if Cakewalk was purchased by MAGIX or Corel? 2

They would probably call it MAGIX SONAR and charge 3x the price.

What if Behringer bought Fender? Fiat bought Lexus? Spirit Airlines bought Singapore Airlines? The North Korean government bought Microsoft? Löwenbraü was being brewed in frickin' Texas? Oh, sh*t, that last one's already come true. 2
Royal Yaksman
8 hours ago, Maestro said: Imagine if Cakewalk was purchased by MAGIX or Corel? Corel has a rather, I will say "interesting" idea of what an upgrade is supposed to be. Their approach seems to be, "We have improved features X, Y and Z." Their advertisement video tells you it has been improved. More smooth. Streamlined. Quicker selection. Faster. Smarter. Pure. Clear. Clarity... etc. Then you buy the upgrade and go to use that new feature and it appears to work exactly the same as it always did. Same limitations. Same clunkiness. Same clarity. In fact the only thing you might notice has changed, is they might have removed some options without telling you they did. And my favourite type of Corel update, where the feature does actually noticeably work better than previously! Wow. Is this actually happening? Oooh spoke too soon. Now you can't export something with that new feature without issues galore! Then they fix it through a paid upgrade by returning the quality and functionality of that feature back to where it used to be before the busted enhancement was attempted. Or they just axe that feature entirely and bring out a new specialised application that you have to buy separately to perform that functionality. *sigh* On the upside, this development cycle lead me to say, "Hello Affinty!"? My last house had a nice basement (the only time I have ever had one), so I turned it into the best, small English pub-style bar in the area! (The guy at the dartboard is prior-World Champion Bob Anderson! The other guy ran a dart league about 150 miles away and lost a lot of money to me and Bob that night. LOL! ?)
