Alex Baroumes
A few days ago, I purchased the Emu Proteus Pack from Digital Sound Factory (it’s on sale), and I installed everything. The ancient installers put everything into drive C: programs (x86)Cakewalk/DimensionPro. I use a separate drive for samples. There are no options in the installer to put the Multisamples into the folder/drive of my choice. I searched for and looked at old Cakewalk threads, and followed the directions there. But, they didn’t solve my problem. Here’s what I’ve done so far, and the sounds/programs still aren’t loading up. 1. Copied all of the multisamples that were sent to the C drive Multisample folder and pasted them into the separate drive Multisamples folder that DP is already set to look for them in. 2. Copied the contents of the (x86) DP folder (programs folder, etc..) and pasted them into the (64bit) DP folder. 3. Checked the registry and verified that DP looks for the multisamples in the correct place. It does. It always has. 4. Pressed F5 when DP’s browser is open. I don’t know anywhere else to look in the system, or anything else to do. I haven’t seen any other obvious folder that the program data is kept. I asked Tim @ DSF for help. And, he sent me one of the same legacy Cakewalk Forum threads, that I’d already read through, and didn’t work for me. It’s a good newer PC that I built a year ago. OS: Windows 10. scook
Sounds like a really old installer. These installers did not read the registry for multisamples folder redirection. There are two parts to most DP expansion pack installers sfz files and samples programs The programs must be in the correct location or F5 will not find them and they will not show up in the browser. My guess is the programs are in the XP era DP folders or somewhere other than ProgramData. Programs were relocated starting with DP 1.5 running in Vista. I found this http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013168/Missing-Expansion-Packs-in-Dimension-Pro-LE-1-5 but it does not mention where the XP era installers put the files. In XP, DP programs were stored in "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs". According to an old post from Tim Swartz the programs may be in "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs". I do not recall that every being used but he should know. I found references to "c:\Users\All Users\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs" and "%appdata%\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs" as a potential alternate locations for post-XP installs but the knowledge base article refers to the folder in ProgramData. I put all DP programs in ProgramData like the knowledge base article recommends. ------------------------------------------------------------ Adding notes to self for future reference and for those interested in Cakewalk history P5 site http://project5.technetos.com/ arachnaut's registry post http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2673527 XP DP install path http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/1862403
Alex Baroumes
Success! I figured it out by looking for a unique Program name, and then doing a file search based on that name. It turned up under: C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\DimensionPro\Programs. It was pretty easy once I got my thinking cap on. Thanks, scook, for lending a hand.
