Hi fine forum folk

Here's a new song I wrote for the current Mrs Daryl1968 - we've been happily married for a vvvvveeeeerrrrrryyyyyy long time.

The lyrics are more lovey dovey than I would usually write so be kind.... :)

Lyrics below link - ooh and the excellent James G played a solo on it

Laughter and Tears
Written and performed by Staypress
with James Griffiths on Lead Guitar and Liz Greenway on backing vocals
V1
When we said 'I do' and 'for better or worse'
The words we said, we thought our hearts would burst
Many years on we still believe in
The power of what we said that evening

Prechorus
For richer or poorer I choose this life
In sickness and health I'd still make you my wife

Chorus
I know you're gonna stay with me
Grow grey with me
No need to count the years
There'll be laughter and tears
I know you're gonna stay with me
Grow grey with me
No need to count the years
There'll be laughter and tears

V2
There'll be laughter and tears in equal measure
There'll be pain and there'll be pleasure
We can watch love grow and our crow's feet blossom
Through the ups and downs, everybody's got em

Prechorus
Chorus
Break
Chorus to end

Your a lucky man!!

Well done.

Mix wise their are a lot of harsh frequencies for my ears.

Thanks Gary - I am mate - very.

You were right about the harsh top end. Remixed and uploaded. Cheers

Squeeze vibe going on here!!

As I listened I kept thinking of the eighties band that sounded like that, and when Nigel mentioned this band, I was like, "Yep! That's what I'm hearing."

I like the instrument choices and how well they blended together. Clean mix. Good song too!

I got a few songs that I think are real 'heartfelt' too. May post a few so you won't feel all alone. : )

I notice from listening to much of your other material that you and your wife make a great team. I could hear her maybe singing some kind of reply or response to the existing lyrics. Even without her singing it's a nice thoughtful tune with a nice positive message well written and recorded!

Listened to this & another one recently. Both have an interesting quality about them. The use of lyrics, instrumentation & performance creates a kind of storybook quality I find quite interesting & enjoyable. They're also very clever as well. -great job.

Thanks very much - very kind of you

Terrific lyrics - you are lucky to have your wife but I bet your wife might feel she has a good deal of luck in having you.  I'm always a big fan of your vocals and harmony.  I did not hear the "toppy" version but this "top less" (strike that and reverse it) sounds top notch!

I 100% thought "those are Squeeze-like chord changes!" but all your own original style, natch. Squeeze was a great band I thought and I hope that's a compliment - I always appreciated their willingness to break conventions and rules in things like chord selections, melodies, and arrangements.

That's what this song has going for it in spades - plus another excellent mix with clarity and separation. Loved it.

cheers,

-Tom
