Playback jumps in steps

In playback, the cursor moves in steps, jumping each time at irregular intervals. +/-10 steps in 5 seconds. I have no clue why.
When stopping it returns to it's departure point. It repeats these steps in an orderly way, always the same steps.
I'm new to Cakewalk, pls help.

It would also help if you told us a bit about what kind of components you have in your computer, CPU, Graphics, Memory etc. as well as what audio card you are running with.
