So 2.0.5 doesn't' fix the VST3 hang on project load for CbB

Why are we so VST3 centric?  This is not the first VST3 that has proven "buggy" in CbB.
I don't think that CbB is always to blame.
VST3 FabFilter plugs, no issue, (of course, why am I not surprised!) exclude the vst2 dll.
SampleTank3 (I know its now "old"), exclude the VST3.

I take it on a case by case basis...

Just because its new, doesn't mean its better

In Cubase, I install both and let Cubase decide which it wants to use, in all other DAW's including CbB I only use VST2 and will not even install the VST3 version if there is an option to allow that, otherwise I just delete it.

In REAPER, it only displays the VSTI3 and VST3.  Btw, because it has "Input Fx", you can record any MIDI you generate in realtime, with the pads - you don't even have to sync Scaler with the DAW.

The same can't be said for Mixcraft, without using a 3rd party MIDI router.

Anyone else having the Midi Notes recorded in the Scaler 2 track capturing both the actual note played along with the chord/phrase/expression that is binded?

Previous versions would only capture the note played in the Scaler 2 track.

Capturing the Scaler 2 output on a different midi track works as expected (only capturing the binded notes)

Didn't see this bug in the forum, so curious if other Cakewalk users are seeing the same behavior.  (Tried with VST2 and 3)

v2.0.6 is now available for download in your account.

I have tested it and the VST3 problem is still there.

2.0.6

  • Fretboard notes can now be used to create/edit chords
  • Fix a timing calculation causing Scaler internal tempo to drift
  • Fix a timing calculation causing Scaler to drift from DAW tempo when using DAW Sync
  • Improve latch and quantise behaviour
  • Prevent crash when voice-grouping chords with non-academic voicings
  • Improve compatibility for users without OpenGL support
  • Prevent crash of ScalerAudio 2 in Cubase

I don't know that much about the tech , but if a cutting edge company like Celemony is only going the VST3 route....I'm guessing there are some advantages to it.

mine says Scaler 2.0b7 VST3 with the .06 install, seems odd.

I totally agree with you, but evidently not all VST3's are created equal...

Saw this on the Scaler forum today, so hopefully the VST3 loading fix should be in the next release....

BETA TESTING INTERNALLY (Not released)

2.0.7a

  • Prevent Scaler from hanging when reloading a saved project in Cakewalk - Windows
  • Editing a chord voicing does not reset its custom playback settings anymore
  • Add ability to Enable/Disable blinking effects
  • Add ability to select between 3 font sizes (Default, Large, Larger)
  • Shift-Click on a chord from your progression now opens Chord Editor
  • More timing improvements, and optimizations of the playback

What is it they say about a watched kettle never boiling :)  I got fed up hitting refresh and moved on to something else.

One thing I do wish; the samples take up 671Mb on disk and as far as I can tell haven't changed since the first release. This is most of the download size (728Mb) and they could surely be separated from the main code so that much smaller code updates could be made for download?

Anyway, I tested the VST3 fix and it no longer hangs CbB in v2.0.7 when loading a project that uses it ?

The mac version took about 10minutes to download, which is actually moderately good for the connection I have.  The Windows version took over 1 hour, and I had to keep hitting the pause/refresh sequence to keep it going.  Finally it finished, even after one 'network failure.'  Which I assume was a failure on their end, as my other unnameable network activities continued with out interuption.  Giving Scalerites an option to skip the 'extra sounds' during this stage of the Scaler 2 show would perhaps be helpful.  Now on to testing.

Are those samples any good? Or were they already part of the original Scaler?

There are around double the number of samples in V2 compared to V1.  Some are the same in V1 and 2 like the nice E Piano but there are a lot of new ones.

Internal sounds can also be turned off but I would say that they are handy for sketching ideas.  You would probably use one of your other sound libraries for more polished sound for any final production though.
