Can't change to new sound with Cakewalk TTS

I recorded a piano track using my Yamaha keyboard with midi.  

I now want to add other sounds like strings, bass, etc.  When I change the sound from the piano to something else it changes the midi track that I've already recorded from piano to the new sounds.  I've tried different midi channels, but nothing seems to be working.
