Thank you!

I know, thanks. I have everything on SSDs. Sometimes I don't even know what articulation a real e.g. violin would play. Here are legato notes, two staccato notes and then a run with triplets...but what articulation would you choose? Mp3 attached. (GM wavetable sound) strings.mp3

Thanks! It is easy with other libraries...just pick an instrument or sound, use keyswitches... e.g. BestService libraries (flutes, ethnic instruments...)... Will Sonar work with VSL Synchron Strings Pro, Brass, Woodwinds etc. so I can set different offsets for every instrument AND articulation?
-
Thanks! But does this mean I need one track per instrument AND articulation? e.g. a cello might play 8 notes, 4 of them slow, 4 staccato...so I must have a track just for staccato notes of the cello? And seperating the notes of an instrument (one channel) to several channels based on articulations sounds tedious.

How do you compose your songs and arrange instruments? I only had mediocre keyboards back then that played my songs without an offset...I write all my songs in Guitar Pro and have the midis. Now I recorded my piano parts with my keyboard..but how do you record strings, flutes, brass etc. with different articulations either by playing them live or using midis? Every instrument has a different attack...staccatos are short and fast so they are ok...but legato etc. aren't...and my songs are metal tracks with a lot of keyboards...from 90 to 200 BPM...when writing backing strings, I cannot just play them live or use the midi as the VSL samples are late...but other ones, e.g. brass staccato, work well... How do you use different instruments? I mean, the problem is not BPM based, but even if you play the piano with fast attack, then have slow strings, you cannot play your strings the same way you play your piano parts...do you use different offsets? Or do you record or play everything with a fast attack, then bounce midi to audio and manually move recordings so they match the other instruments? Where to start? I am new to orchestra libraries and have only used hardware keyboards or libraries that "sound immediately" with no offset required. Moving a track isn't the problem, but every instrument and articulation is different...so I would like to know where to start and how you do. 😊 e.g. there might be a part with 160 BPM, the string section plays some legato notes, some staccato, some other articulations...how do you do this so that all notes are triggered in time with the BPM/the drums/the programmed bass?

That was fast. Thank you!

Hey! I have a question about midi editing. I recorded my keyboard, but do not see any velocities. In order to display them, I need have to select them with the mouse...now I see the velocities and want to make some of them louder, BUT this will make everything louder...everything selected. How can I display the velocities in the bottom part of the screen and only edit the notes I want to? I found out that I can point at a note till the velocity tool pops up...but this way I have to edit everything manually WITHOUT seeing the velocities of notes that are not loud enough.

Thanks, found it. Yes, there were some unused synths there. Moreover, the names are this and that, but if you move your mouse over them, sometimes different names are displayed...which is a display bug.
-
Where is the synth rack? I just add tracks, either audio or midi...and insert synths...and if I don't like a synth, I right-click the icon and choose "replace". I am always in track view.

Hi! I don't know if this is a DAW question or Synchron Piano-related. I have my keyboard on and recorded some piano parts with a pedal here and there...when I press playback in the DAW and click a time marker to jump to a different time OR stop the playback, there is always the reverb etc. of the pedal...I either have to press the pedal again for another playback or stop playback during a part that does not use the pedal. It seems that the DAW always needs a "pedal OFF" state when playing back midi and recorded midi... It is pretty annoying as I have to step on the pedal all the time although I stopped recording some time ago and only listen to parts of the song via the playback of the DAW. Is there a "stop pedal" key or command?
-
I insert a synth via "New synth" vs. new audio track or new midi track....then I replace it by right-clicking the icon and selecting a new synth...
-
Thanks. Do you mean the track view? The VSTis I want to remove are no longer there, but loading the save file always mentions them.
-
Hey! I tested some VSTis and chose the ones I want to use, then saved the project. However, every time I load the project, the unused VSTis are loaded although they are not used in the project. Is there a way to remove unused VSTis? e.g. I had EZ Bass and Modo Bass in my project because I wanted to test something...then I removed Modo Bass some days ago, saved the project, worked on the piano, saved it again etc., but several saves later, Modo Bass is still shown in the list of loaded instruments.

Thanks, I know of course, but I want to add Sonarworks Reference to the headphones only...not the entire output...but I guess it is easier to just enable it when using headphone and disable it when using speakers.
-
Thanks! I have out 1+2 and 3+4 on the back...but my headphones are connected via the headphones jack on the front...I cannot control them.
-
Hi! I remember that one version or project of mine had an output named "Headphones"...but I can no longer find it. I have Master, Metronom, Preview, X and Y...how can I add "Headphones" so I can use Sonarworks Reference with the profile for my Sennheiser HD 600? My audio device is a Motu M4...the headphones are connected via a cable...and work for every audio task. How can I add this "Headphones" section in Cakewalk?
-
Thank you! I'll try that. My songs use a lot of tempo changes, about 5-10. It sounds tricky because somes string libraries use mod wheels etc...I don't know how I should record the e.g. violin at 160 BPM or a string section that accompanies metal guitars...and the guitars and drums are tight.
-
Thanks a lot! One more question: Can this offset be only applied to midi tracks (midi tracks exported with Guitar Pro for example)? What about playing a VSTi instrument live and recording the midi? Do you have to press the keys in time or can you use an offset so the e.g. string library is triggered correctly when you press the keyboard button correctly in real time? Is this something only the full Sonar version is capable of or Cakewalk by Bandlab as well? I bought Cakewalk Sonar Professional (for about 199€) years ago before it became Bandlab...but I don't think I can get the new version for free because it is subscription-based.

How do I navigate there? There are no scroll bars...I have to guess where to scroll with the mouse wheel, but when the mouse is over a slider, it will not only scroll the window, but also mess up settings, e.g. swing, pitch, flam etc.
-
Thanks. Ah, it is hidden down there...I see it for the first time. I have to scroll down to see it. How do I navigate there? There are no scroll bars to click...I can only scroll up and down with the mouse wheel, but this also messes up certain settings when the mouse is over them. I only have one monitor and a 1920x1080 resolution. The problem was that I did not see "midi" there because the default of my plugins is that they are displayed in a tiny bottom-left window there.

Sorry for the late reply. I cannot find the midi inspector. I have the German version. Where can I find the arpeggiator, key+ and time+? Can you please share a screenshot so I can find it? Do you mean the piano roll? I don't have a midi channel and an audio channel with the VSTi as an effect, but use the "add synthisizer" function, then import the midi track. I can only add audio effects to that synth track, but not midi plugins such as chord analyzer, velocity, transpose etc.

EDIT Found it myself, sorry! There is a "mute" box in the audio data I need to untick. Solved. ============= Actually, I found it in the manual, but I cannot find it in the DAW! The DAW did not create new tracks when recording because it was set to "one track". I moved the recorded data to different tracks, but all of them are grayed out and I don't know how to umute them/make them active. Please help.

Thank you! I found the icon to make a take audible.
-
Thanks! No, my project is set to "overwrite". But when I select a section, add loop markers, arm a track for recording and play the section in a loop, all takes are recording in the armed track without being overwritten. I can see the different takes with wave data etc., but I cannot listen to the takes. Switching the project settings to overdub or compting does not work either.
