I’m waiting on an MOTU ultralight mk 4 which has been out a year but not available because of a chip shortage. Glad the older stuff is still available.

Good tone.

Many times the Master buss is rolled over in the console view. You have to pull the tracks and output section to the left to expose the master buss.

Great stuff, Craig. Wasn’t SOS still doing occasional columns about cake for a while? still, unless Bandlab releases a new synth or new reverb or comp or something, it is hard to place a review. As great as stability is, it is hard to get non users excited in a laundry list of bug fixes. If Bandlab wants press they’ll have to break some code eggs.

Usually that means not enough cpu to run the programs at that low rate. Either a slow computer or badly written drivers for the interface.

Talent for sure. The biggest difference I’ve found otherwise is rooms. A tuned room really helps distinguish different instruments… more definition. Most home recordists don’t have a spare room or two that can be tuned anyway with low ceilings etc. and many of us have other compromises, live recording and monitoring in one room or two with too much bleed to really tell what the heck you are doing. Experience, which goes to skills mentioned above. then equipment. Even tho a basic interface and dynamic can provide a good capture these days, better quipment (and experience using it ) makes a difference, even if it is only at the margins. Personally I try to have at least one nice transformer between me and the converter.

Yes. There are several threads about how to restore dimpro.

In the new products forum. Check it out to see some of the thoughts of the rest of the DAWs

24 bits is standard recording depth, so yea, just about anything new will be better.

" Bedroom" speakers to listen to tracks?
Alan Tubbs replied to RICHARD HUTCHINS's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yamaha. They don’t even have to be the M series for musicians. They will provide an alt source that is different and kinda medium. Not the car or a boom box or headphones, but what use to be the “average listener experience”. -
I do of course have a portable data drive. That is how I transfer songs from my 10 year win 7 computer to the new one. And it has been 5 years or so since my last new computer installation, may she rest in pieces..

Thanks scoop. I’ll look again in preferences. This takes me back to the old manual/dictionary conundrum- how do you look up something you don’t know how to spell? Just keep misspelling it until you get it right.

Still working up the new computer but I can’t find the function that saves songs to a new location other in the standard cakewalk file location. I want them to go to my 2nd . it has been too long since I’ve gotten a new main rig. thanks

This was on my old, windows 7 machine I’m retiring. I didn’t realize it had also gone to update through cake itself and the old bandlab login update page was defunct. my new machine is wireless and stays updated. I hadn’t stressed my the new win 10 much and had an important session so I fired up the old rig. -
One solid, all a rounder mic. For a $1050? microtech gefell m 930, a real Neumann. During WWII they moved the factory to the east to escape bombing and it ended up as Gefell in east Germany. Still make the m7 capsule which the 930 uses. Solid state and not a larger than life sound, just replication. Works well on every thing from vocals to fiddle. you may want to add other mics that fit your voice or guitar whatever better later, but that takes time, as well as funds. Gefell will still sparkle and holds its value in case you need to sell it to buy your wonder mic. You hardly ever see them for sale, which is the best endorsement you can get.

Sample rates are overrated. Lavry stated that the best rate was somewhere around 60k years ago - I don’t know if that is still valid. Bit rate is more important, but even there many plugs already upsample within your daw. And some converter units seem to work better at specific sample rates. I record 44.1 at 24 bits. No sound quality problems. Most of the samples I use or drop are at 44.1 and 16 bits. I knew a national artist and back in the 90S he would record his rhythms into a 12 bit akai and take that to the neve studio with a 2 inch tape. There are more important facets of sound (not to mention music) than raw sample rate. but ten years? You deserve a new computer.

Add-ons Install from Bandlab Assistant
Alan Tubbs replied to Marcello VIOLANTE's topic in Instruments & Effects
Sometimes OP means one post. -
There are tape stop plug ins available, which would get a lot of the effect.

New Synth by Cherry Audio "Mercury 4" and Big Fish stuff
Alan Tubbs replied to RexRed's topic in Instruments & Effects
Cherry audio does some good synth. -
Set end of song? Exporting doesn't care what I trimmed.
Alan Tubbs replied to gloriousb's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Good answer. It ought to be a sticky. -
There are plenty. I think the cakewalk hardware was a re-branded Roland. I’m not sure about the specs, channels and such. But I’d probably go with Audient’s line of interfaces, which are good quality and about the best in class to my ear. I’m sure lots of people will give recommendations.
