I got to the 1st green screen with the repair options. Couldn’t repair from the internet. Not sure why my password did not work with my internet connection, maybe Ms wanted a different kind of number. I’ll look for my original save disk but I’ll probably just take it in to see about the power or bad disk. Hopefully I can save some of the info fromthe os drive, I save all my project audio on a 2nd drive. and I’m getting Jim to build me a new StudioCat computer with a separate back up drive. That should solve that! thanks all. If they can do anything I’ll update the post, hopefully with solved.

I wish I’d said yes to reviewing the Neumann but I was too slammed at the time. But if it is anywhere near the sound quality of the m48 interface I’d assume you’d be a winner. Crystal clear repro. But a lot depends on the music. The Neumann won’t be a thumper but your soundstage and depth and discrimination should be better. I replaced an almost 50 year old Yamaha amp with a hafler and the old “relaxed” sound got a lot more upfront, which is better for audio work rather than listening for enjoyment. As for bass, the Yama speaker I still use are the old ns style monitors with beryllium tweeters. Mine are 10 inchers and do good bass . I always checked the bass in “real” studios on barefoots etc., however. If you have access to such you’ll understand the translation pretty quick if you have the wherewithal I’d go for the Neumanns but keep the Mackies just to check the bass on. It probably goes lower if not as cleanly. At some point you can add the sub that goes with it. I haven’t heard either, but from what I’ve researched it fixes any bass questions. At this point, and I’m not ready to buy yet, my first choice would be for the 3 way Neumann 310.

I checked the on button already. I had a case that wouldn’t always aline perfectly.

Lots of good ideas here, esp the power source . thanks all. @

Thanks for all the suggestions. The problem is inconsistency. To keep the computer from turning on I have to unplug the computer. Otherwise the computer will continue to turn itself on, go to the pin page and I can start to log on. Sometimes the computer will full boot, such as when I tried to download the latest cakewalk sonar version. The computer then shut down after 85% loaded. It seemed to finish downloading the file since I saw no more about the file. Neither did I get any info whether it finished downloading or installing. It makes it really difficult to figure what is going on. to summarize, the unit starts and starts to load the os. It usually gets thru the pin sign. After that all bets re off. Most tries it turns itself off and then starts to load again. As I said above, it is usually is signed in after it turns itself off and on again. But I can’t get much done since it only stays on a minute or two. It might keep cycling thru several times before it sticks on and I have a couple of minutes to try to figure out what is going on. ill try reseating everything but it hard because I got one of those small cases and report back. I’m kinda slammed now but will report back. thanks for the help. Ever little bit helps.

it does boot up, but then turns off after various periods of time. It might work for 10 minutes (or not even finish the boot). I turned on my interface and had to re log into Bandlab and then got 85% thru the download of the latest cakewalk sonar before crashing. I think it finished downloading but I couldn’t tell if it updated. you can’t trust it to stay on long enough to finish any work.

Will try. Thanks for idea.

I image I know the answer but I thought I’d ask here first. I haven’t been doing much music and I started up my Cakewalk Sonar rig up and it cycled thru and shut itself off. Then it would start up again and rinse and repeat for shorter or longer times. At two points I got a screen (greenish) that offered to continue to win 11 or several other choices. The first time it turned itself off before I could read the options. The next time I got to the greenish options, I choose to continue to win 11 instead of repair. I haven’t seen the repair option since then. the weirdest thing is when it dies and starts, it stays logged in. I got all the way to enabling my Neumann interface and to cakewalk sonar before it crashed. The Neumann disconnected when the computer died. am I screwed or does anyone have any ideas other than replace the computer? And along those lines does anybody here build bespoke computer systems? I’ve usually used HP but I’m open to suggestions. The old computer is only about 4 or 5 years old but my previous Win 10 computer was still going. thanks for time and ideas. @ Alan Tubbs

... but perpetual licence ... are you considering it ?
Alan Tubbs replied to EnglandBross's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
I’ve considered the perpetual license and love it but Bandlab considered it and doesn’t. Guess who won? -
Yea, I went around and around with some Warm pieces. If you use the “real” thing for a while you can hear some anomalies when testing, but basically similar circuits yield similar sonic results. One of the best recordings I ever did was with the wa2a on a female. A beautiful bloom over her performance as I rode the levels. Not having the real thing would have made no difference I believe. on the other hand, I’m hoping to get a vintech clone since it sounds the most “vintage” to my ears. Should compare and contrast well with my portico II Chanel. @

I’d never trust usb power for anything critical, esp. preamps. It may work fine most of the time, but .…

Thanks for the vid.

Rene sold his earlier synths thru cakewalk. That included zeta 1. He then developed Dimension for cakewalks P5. Dimension was the basis for Dimension Pro and then Rapture/Pro. I know that doesn’t help but puts the timeline and ownership into a mixed up perspective. your best bet is to forget about Cakewalks synths. Use them if you have them, I do! But I turn them into audio and save those for tracks. I don’t know if I can add my versions to a new computer. Bandlab seems perfectly happy just renting Cakewalk Daws out and has shown no interest in adding any old or new synths or effects. I wouldn’t torture myself over what Bandlab will add for Daw use. If you have it, use it. Otherwise move on.

So I am not allowed to STOP CW advertisements?
Alan Tubbs replied to Pathfinder's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Are you saying free software might try to get you to pay for the said software? Perish the thought. -
I get spam thru Microsoft, in apple, from email. Every once in a while I get some from Bandlab, I suppose. Delete and report is your friend, until you realize they just add new spam for the deleted ones.

Tape Op said they will change the online text.

here you go. https://tapeop.com/reviews/gear/164/cakewalk-sonar-4-daw/ @

The latest one on line. Nov Dec. I don’t think it is printed and mailed. I haven’t gotten mine, anyway.

Here is a little PR. I don’t know what cakewalk sonar 4 is, but otherwise you can find the review in the free tape op mag. You might have to subscribe but it is a good mag.

Next solved the biggest problem Cakewalk had - Mac compatibility. It is doing job 1 and I hope they add to its capabilities.

New Sonar, just so I have this right...
Alan Tubbs replied to Timothy Connelly's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
Continue to use cakewalk sonar and render all your midi and audio tracks and save the tracks. Now when Bandlab sends you a ransome note for $15 you can transfer all your audio to a new DAW. Done and you don’t have to give in to Bandlab’s taking the folding money out of your right pocket. Just $100, 200 or 500 will get you a new and different Daw. -
Nobody I know likes the subscription model. Yet the #1 DAW is sub based - Pro tools. We might not like it but it is a fact. I don’t like paying taxes or co pays either. i do think the roll out of of cakewalk sonar was … confusing. It shouldn’t take so much effort to figure out what Cake is offering. It is spread over various web pages and sites. As far as I can tell Bandlab is mostly a social music site. Cakewalk Sonar is a bonus for bandlab users that want to step up to pro output, but you have to keep paying. Certainly not the straightest line. But it is also true that cakewalk use to charge $500, a year, for the full version of Sonars and also loaded with the latest synth that cost hundreds too. So your $150 a year sounds kind of puny and a good deal (even with out Dimension Pro or Rapture). I never heard as much squealing over Sonar’s pricing. they are going to get your money one way or another. It is natural to kick against the ***** but at some point you need to move forward. My next choice would be Mixcraft since is a cheaper buy and works much the same as old Sonar. But you know, you still have to pay for it, even if you buy it by paying off a credit card.

I don’t think the trial includes saving. I could be wrong but I would think that is how Cakewalk Sonar works.

Thanks.
