  1. Hardly seems worth the extra cost to upgrade Ultimate rather than just upgrade to K14 standard and retain access to the ultimate stuff from K13U.

    Anyone else done that before?

Had a look in my NI account and they offered me both upgrade paths so it should be valid.

  2. From another forum:

    > Will be posting more information shortly, but just to let you know, VSTBuzz is going to be closing down next month. However we're going out with a bang. We'll be re-running our best deals from the past few years again

Thanks Craig, that was an upgrade price I thought made it reasonable too :)

Any thoughts on whether ultimate is worth the upgrade at the same time? I just did the upgrade from Pro V1 to Pro V2 and the upgrade to ultimate is cheaper now as well.

I probably haven't used it enough to say whether the extra environments are really worth the extra money. I am a bit of a completionist so I'm glad I have ultimate, but I'm just a hobbyist so it's all for a bit of fun rather than to earn a living or anything.

If I was faced with the upgrade from Pro to Ultimate decision today it'd probably come down to whether I had the money and didn't mind spending it, and whether I had more than 3 pairs of headphones to use with Realphones (I have 5, but most of the time I'm just using a single pair rather than switching back and forth that much).

  4. I didn't want to rain on your parade earlier when you said you bought standard, but I did notice they have changed the tiers in version 2 so that there are extra environments in the higher plans. $20 to upgrade to Professional sounds like a very worthwhile upgrade!

  5. For those not familiar with the product, Dsoniq Realphones offers headphone correction & monitoring environment simulation like Slate VSX but using your own headphones. Supports both plugin and system-wide modes.

    https://www.dsoniq.com/

Dsoniq has been doing 30% off sales for a while now, and they have a similar one on at the moment. It had not been enough to tempt me to upgrade from V1 Ultimate edition to V2, as I felt the upgrade fee was too steep.

But with the coupon code MYKAH you can increase the discount from 30% all the way to 60% bringing it into quite affordable territory.

For me it brought the upgrade from Ultimate V1 to V2 down from $77 (on sale) to $44.66 and that was enough to tempt me to upgrade at last. So glad I did. I had forgotten how much of a difference it makes.

  6. Well it's definitely nothing to do with owning falcon or VV, I have those and Keysuite but no voucher here.

I can only guess it has to do with buying directly from uvi vs resellers or having bought in the past year.

It's implied in your "4 to 5 release samples per note," but just to be sure, would you mind confirming that it means that every note was sample (not, say, every third note)? Having grown up with a Wurly in our home (my mother was a music teacher and we had a family band that used the Wurly), beyond the tone, I find the dynamics of the Wurly are an essential part of its greatness.  It's sweet when you play it soft and it has bite when you play it harder. So many Wurly sample libraries fail on adequately capturing that. I own a bunch and I'm still not totally satisfied It's as good as it could be in any of them.

I may or may have not tried to persuade some developers I know to create a Wurly library. I actually pushed for Orange Tree Samples to do a Hofner library for probably 13 years before they released one! That's why Greg asked me to do a demo when they were about to release it!

Oh yeah I had thought to mention that but forgot earlier. There are indeed samples for each key, C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B with more often than not 5  samples + release samples. In fact there's 8 cases with 6 samples, and only 5 cases with 4, the rest are 5 dynamic layers + 5 releases per note.

    There's also a single sample each for Pedal 1, Pedal 2, Pedal F, Pedal 4, Pedal R1, Pedal R2.

  8. Well since I'm a geek I installed it, had a look at the 305 meg .SAR file it dropped under ProgramData and found it lists the wav files used. It's 4 to 5 dynamic layers and another 4 to 5 release samples per note across 5 octaves.

Great presets. I just wish they'd sampled a few more dynamic layers to really do it justice - you can hear where the sample layer changes distinctly at higher velocities.

Im holding out for Absolute 6 at the $230 price.  Both April 2022 and 2023 had that sale. Hoping we’ll see it soon again in 2024 as haven’t seen it yet.

Me too. Although it's probably almost worth waiting for Absolute 7 at this point. Their upgrade cycles are merciless.

  10. Thanks everyone who took part in the two rounds of the group buy. It was great to work together and enjoy better pricing as a result. It's a bit of manual handling coordinating it, but everything seemed to work out well in the end, and it was a bit of fun compared to the usual kind of deal.

I've got to say, what a bargain for $20 for a really unique instrument. It might have a more limited range compared to a fully fledged subtractive synth but I'm getting some really interesting sounds out of it so far. It's great for super mellow ambient tones, and a perhaps unsurprisingly wide array of hybrid string sounds with all the modulation and tweaking parameters available. Pairs well with d16 Spacerek reverb too - I find the built in space too roomy for my liking so that's the first thing I remove when testing out presets.
