  1. What happens if you change the extension back to .cwb ? Give it a try.
  2. Welcome to the forum. Quite simply yes. Your laptop should be OK. However, there is a limit to the audio data you can process and the number of individual tracks you can record. Limited by the interactions between your laptops CPU speed, memory, speed of your drives and what is creating the sounds you want to record and playback. You didn’t mention what you were going to record and whether you need microphone/s, guitar etc. The type of inputs will dictate which external audio device you’ll need if any. If its purely electronic sounds generated by the software in your laptop then another consideration will be how you will hear your recordings. Earphones/buds or external speakers. Again your choice of external audio device (read Sound/Audio Card) will play a part in those choices too. When you say in the long run - Cakewalk, while it is distributed under a free license now, has a history dating back more than 30 years. It is a mature Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that has a bright future with a team of dedicated developers some of whom have spent 20+ years writing the code. This forum is a unique extra as the community is involved and passionate, including many professional musicians, composers and producers. Willingly helping. Add to that I’ve not known a forum to have so much input from the developers. While it should never be expected or taken for granted, they make an enormous direct contribution when a particular question calls for their input. Also responsive to direct feature requests and a robust bug reporting system. That’s about it. You’ll have more questions and you’re always welcome to post them here at anytime, I highly recommend you familiarise yourself with the Cakewalk Resource Guide (see links higher up in the forum) and simply hovering over an icon in any Cakewalk screen will show a tool tip and if the online help is enabled you’ll get that info right in whichever window you’re in. All the best.
  3. Ah, Cakewalk at its best. Seriously where else do you get such comprehensive support. I must setup my Waves DIGIGRID devices this weekend and see how MMCSS works in that environment as I’ve not had it running for a while now.
  4. I couldn’t get Amp 5 recognised until the latest update which fixed all my issues. Make sure you’re patched to the latest update only released in the last week or so.
  5. Glad you got it sorted. Just as well you had a switched on DAW builder to work with. They were clearly able to do things we couldn’t begin to suggest.
  6. Are all those instruments to be recorded at once? If not you can do with less inputs and record some tracks first and then others later.
  7. Another important key to speeding up workflow (as you’ve mentioned the number of mouse clicks) is to learn the keyboard shortcuts which make any program work so much faster. There is also scope to edit some default combinations to more suit yourself. Once you’ve begun you’ll be amazed at what you can do. it’s also possible to use 3rd party programs like Auto Hotkeys to create complex scripts to perform regular click heavy operations. There are some regular members who are quite expert at using Auto hotkeys. I’m not one of them.
  8. I’ll often read a post and if I don’t know the answer (related to techniques or user error) off the top of my head, go to the Reference Guide and look for answers.. That’s why I always encourage folks to RTFM.
  9. You could also look at the source of the problem. Perhaps investigate better monitoring of the bands playing during recording and of course practice and improving musicianship. Also examine what is louder or quieter and when. Sometimes the arrangement of a song can create a wide dynamic range. There’s so many areas to explore before trying to fix it in the mix.
  10. Thanks Noel n Lord Tim. I’ve got a hefty mount - glad I over spec’ed originally.
  11. Thanks for the updated info regarding the length of development and other interesting history.
  12. Please don't go down this road. This free DAW is particularly well supported and while you probably didn't realize it, Noel (Borthwick) is the companies Chief Technical Officer and has been programming Cakewalk for some 20 odd years. Like many of us we all had to start somewhere and while many of us used Cakewalk's paid for precursor software, SONAR (myself for more than 3 decades), we all appreciate that the level of support here outstrips that offered by many DAW companies with far greater resources. The community centered around this DAW has been in existence since the early news group days (pre-modern internet) late 80's early 90's, yes last century, and comprises some very knowledgeable and experienced, musicians, producers, composers and programmers in the music industry. They give their time freely and in time like many, you'll have more questions then, one day you'll be in a position to provide an answer or a comment to help someone else. Thats the way it works at its best. So - welcome to the Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB0 forum, remain patient and remember that even when you think it's the software, it's probably user error. Thats OK. Even when you express your frustration someone will likely still help. AND if it is the software then there are well established lines of communication to get the issue resolved.
  13. Is it possible to wall mount or only on the stand with which it comes? I don't have the desk real estate available as it's occupied by a Raven Mti1 27" Multi-Touch Screen.
  14. I'm sure all those who helped you, appreciate your polite and respectful attitude. Just do one more thing. That is, go back to your first entry, select Edit for your Post and update your thread title to include [SOLVED]. That will inform others appropriately. Thanks.
  15. There you go. With a little help and patience, you've taken a small but important step. Now get yourself a copy of the Cakewalk reference Guide and start to slowly start study it. It's a big book but don't be overawed by its size. It's in PDF format so you can search it to help answer questions. It's a comprehensive guide to all things you need to know and then some. Apart from doing the tutorials mentioned in the earlier parts of the guide, it will familiarize you to "Cakewalk speak". Audio recording has its own language and getting to grips with the terminology will aid you in framing other questions you'll no doubt ask in due course. Interactive Help is always available from within Cakewalk itself simply by hovering over an icon which triggers the Help Module to load relevant information in a window on the right of the screen by default. If it's not visible, select it from the Views Menu. Like most Cakewalk Views the window can be docked or dragged around and placed where you choose. Along with the others - welcome to the Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) forum. To view and download the PDF, click the Cakewalk by BandLab forum menu and select Reference Guide PDF. OR Reference Guide here BTW does the Koala moniker mean you're an Aussie. You'll find quite a few of us on here. I live in a small rural town west of Ballarat in Victoria.
  16. I suggest checking out the Reference Guide for help with templates as I have various synths setup in different track templates and everything loads fine when selected.
  17. You can use the free version of Macrium to create an image of your current C drive and use that for your new computers C drive. In Cakewalk Preferences\File Locations you can see where all your various files are being saved. Backup all those locations and once you’ve got your new PC setup, copy all those files over to it.
  18. Unfortunately most threads on the forum come about due to people experiencing problems. Not very often that people post how wonderfully things are going. In any case, most problems are resolved without that being reflected in the forum. When you own multiple DAWs you’ll realise that we have a very interactive forum with good support from the developers. I don’t know of any other forum where the company’s CTO (Noel Borthwick) regularly answers technical questions directly for users.
  19. Native Access provides options for choosing your own installation paths for the libraries as well as the plugins and as has been mentioned the option to Relocate an already installed program and/or application. It seems many companies now have dedicated Installation Managers to help keep on top of the large volumes of associated files. Apart from programs I have a dedicated Installation Manager folder on my Windows Desktop where I keep them all.
  20. I’ve read the posts; I’m with John T. If the dots’ purpose is to indicate that data exists at a zoom level where that data is not currently visible, then surely the dots themselves should not disappear at any reachable zoom level.
  21. Hi Jonathan, it's certainly been a while since we've chatted. Prior to this occasion of doing a V-Vocal installation I've always followed those same steps as you've highlighted. Interestingly, after having installed Sonar X2, V-Vocal was immediately available and fully operational in CbB without doing a reinstall of the current version. I've not yet found any problems with CbB but am cautiously aware I might have to reinstall it if the X2 installation overwrote a file on which CbB relies.
  22. Yes. Cakewalk enables many tasks to be accomplished by various means often depending on the view that is exposed. In track view, select which editable parameters are exposed by using the button at the top of the tracks pane. If you select "All" (See attached pic) then you will see a horizontal slider for volume, Left click select and pressing enter will allow you to type in values. Many pictures and written instructions to be gained from the Cakewalk Reference Guide. A recommended read. https://bandlab.github.io/cakewalk/docs/Cakewalk Reference Guide.pdf or by using Cakewalk by Bandlab drop down menu at the top of the forum page.
  23. Glad you got it sorted out. You might like to edit your thread title by adding [SOLVED] to the end. That will let folks browsing the forum no that there’s a resolution for the posted issue.
  24. I’m not sure I agree that PC audio users are a minority. I’f anything I’d say it’s the other way around. Still, that’s not really the point. There are tools you can use to process the video files enabling choice of the video and audio codec used and the container in which they’re delivered. I used to use a free program called SUPER that allowed you to manipulate all aspects of video/audio files to get around compatibility or sync issues like you seem to be having. I’ll look it up and see if it’s still around. SUPER be careful. In the past there used to be lots of advertising on the page and it was easy to download another advertised app instead of SUPER. Give it a go, it pulled me out of quite a few tricky spots. You might have to go all the way to the end of the page. I’m using my phone at the moment and as it’s a PC application I’m not seeing all the correct page details. I hope it can offer you some help. Cheers,
