I've bought several things over the decades from Sweetwater and yes, their support is tops, but somewhere around the dot-com bust (approximately 2002 maybe) they stopped giving good deals. I've always bought expensive keyboards. Over the past 20 years, I still sometimes call and offer a price on things I'm interested in, but they never meet my price anymore. It's like dealing with car salesmen. I found Pro Audio Star out of NYC that will do whatever it takes to get my money, and I go there first, now. You can also go to Ebay, find the equipment you're interested in, and only do business with the sellers who utilize the "Make Offer" option, and stick to your guns. Again, Sweetwater always counter offers with a number that is insulting. But it must work for them, since most people are afraid to negotiate and do not know how. About 7 years ago on a new Kurzweil PC3K8 with a case, ribbon controller and a couple other items, the MSRP was $3495 just for the keyboard. The bonus package ran an additional several hundred dollars. I offered Sweetwater $2875 and they counter offered with $3300. Only $200 less than MSRP. Pro Audio Star gave me the package for $2895. What makes the whole thing even worse is the Sweetwater sales guy attempt to tell me that my offer makes them lose money, blah, blah, blah.

Is it no longer possible to see more than one synth properties of my soft synths at a time? When I double-click another synth in the rack, the new synth properties and synth replaces the former one that was open. I used to be able to see all of them layered and sitting behind one another, which I prefer oftentimes. Help please?

Finale' allows you the option of inserting notes and moving the remainder to the right, without affecting the notes prior, like a word processor. So while you're looking at the notes on the staff, with gaps and whatever, you have control over the product so that it will look like how you want it. You can also change the value of the notes or chords, without affecting contiguous notes and chords. And you are able to tie notes into the next measure without the software doing weird things to the notes involved. When handled in this manner, it's up to the composer to make sure that everything adds up correctly, which is not an issue for a musician with some formal training.

I think perhaps you guys might be correct in saying Musescore and others might work for what the OP has done. His song was done by his using the Piano Roll View, so more than likely, he put notes perfectly onto the timeline and if he did not move the notes to the side of the beat, to give it some swing and phrasing, then those other software programs should be able to work just fine. Of course, his song would feel rather "mechanical" or robotic, as we musicians have spoken about in the use of computer music for decades. But what I have been writing about is if the MIDI file was a person recording a song on his MIDI keyboard, playing it as he felt it should sound. Then of course, a myriad of complications are introduced that those software score programs are incapable to handling, except for Finale'. So, if the MIDI file by the songwriter is one created with PRV and not complicated at all, then you can use anything. But if the MIDI file created is like a person using his MIDI keyboard to record a composition on piano and play it as he likes, then the notes will not be lined up perfectly, and attempting to move the notes to look proper on the staff inside a software score program, will not work (except for Finale') because those other programs FORCE each measure to add up to 1 (all the notes in the measure must add up to 1), and that will cause havoc galore.

Y'know, myself and Star Krupa, are two guys who put a lot of hours into trying to do, what is being suggested to the OP. We have experience. It's plain as day that you and the other guy, have not EVER attempted to do what you suggest 'off the cuff', because you read a report that the other software programs should be able to do the task, even though we are telling you that they cannot.
-
Of course we know what quantize is. And we still write and state what we have already. If you would bother to read the issue at hand, you would realize how quantize is not a solution in any way, shape, or form.
-
Really? You cannot click the link and see exactly the several paragraphs, and the post by Star Krupa, and read them without my having to import both mine and his into this thread? Aren't hyperlinks the whole point of simplicity and making our lives easier?
-
Yeah, right. I'd like to see you do it. Make a video while you try to turn the OP's MIDI file into a score. It would be amusing (if we had several hours to waste). Saying you can use MuseScore to make a score out of a MIDI file created by a person playing in his MIDI keyboard in real time, and then trying to fix it so that all the notes read correctly on the staff (since that is EXACTLY what we are discussing here), is like all the allegories of using the wrong tool for the job, i.e. a hammer when you need to use a screwdriver, etc. Yes, the other score softwares can and will open a MIDI file. But that's where the success story ends.
-
This post is 100% irrelevant to what is being suggested to the OP, who is wishing to create a score from his MIDI tracks that he already made. Read my post, and you will understand.
-
You will not be able to use MuseScore, nor Sibelius, for what you are wishing to accomplish. Absolutely not. You have to use one of the Finale' products. Read what I wrote here, and understand, and you won't waste days or weeks on being frustrated and having accomplished nothing. And also read Starship Krupa's response to my post on that page, who will corroborate what I wrote.

'Looks like they are both equal on CPU usage. In X3 I opened its original audio demo, then added 4 plugins (DS-Thorn, U-he Repro-5, XLN Addictive Drums 2, and Arturia Matrix-12). Had the drums looping and played Repro-5. Saved that as ______ and then opened that file with CbB, all with the same presets and looping the same drums, etc. CPU % floated the same in both, from 4% to 7%, back and forth while playing my MIDI controller for Repro-5. And both, when completely idle with the same project (no playing) drops back to 1%.
-
Hey Noel, I can compare the two because I'm using a separate CPU utility on my PC to measure usage between applications.
-
I finally installed CbB a couple days ago, and it all went well without a hitch. I have X3 Producer on my machine, first. The CbB color scheme is quite appealing compared to the default X3. There are some immediate differences in appearance (windows on the right side is the way I'm going to refer to them), which are fine. The only thing I need to actually research better (I'll do it tomorrow) is load both DAWs up with the same amount of open plugins, and see which version is lighter on CPU %. I want to say that X3 was lighter on CPU, but I cannot since I did not compare apples to apples. CbB opened with a different file and the CPU % seemed a few points higher, but like I said, I was not comparing apples to apples. Will try to do so tomorrow. I have a lot to learn in the CbB "upgrades" that I have heard touted at me for the past almost year, and even before that, people were claiming the Platinum had so many improvements over X3. I ignored all those posts for the longest time for whatever reason.

Actually, God helps those who can't help themselves. And while people may at times be described as decent, the bottom line is that all are evil. There is none righteous, no not even one. Which is why man needs to be saved from his sin. When one realizes the evil within oneself, then genuine humility can happen, and genuine repentance. To Piotr, I don't know the facts about the computer game you are making reference, but I do not need to to know that what is esteemed as AI is not anything resembling "self-awareness". Whatever arguments might be put forth about a computer beating a man, would still not be evidence of self-awareness technology. And the most important thing in life is making peace with Christ/God, and should not, by any means, be considered taboo to speak about. And politics affects our lives in a most serious way, too, and should be freely discussed. No censoring. So when we musicians go about making musical art, we draw from everything good and put forth something that is worthwhile. God is good and worthy to be praised.

You know how naive this sounds? The universe and all life created by God but you don't worship God. A computer and software invented by men, and you are in awe. We cannot cure cancer, but we can blow the world up several times over. Computers that now are capable of processing voice recognition on phone calls and credit card expenditures to know what you like to buy so your human overlords can spy and censor you, but you still are in awe. No wisdom at all. Did you ever see the movie Terminator? hello? And no computer ever invented anything. There's always a human behind it all. But the heart of man is wicked and utterly deceitful. Who can comprehend it. Have you ever heard a computer create a concerto or sonata? Nope, and never will. Don't mind me. Just a rant.

When Rapture Pro (v. 2.00.2.541) was released I was not staying alert and did not learn about it until it was no longer available. I would have paid for the upgrade to get the several thousand presets within the 13GB of samples. 'Hope CbB decides to release it at an affordable price. I would buy it. Likewise. My 32 GB system had it off for 4 years, and then somehow after I upgraded my SSD, reinstated it for some reason and it seemed to cause me problems. I turned it back off and everything is fine again. I also have a Gadget that shows me how all my Drives & RAM usage and free space, and if any information is moving up or down on them. If the pagefiles system was needed, it would first be writing to my free RAM which never goes above 4 or 5 GB, ever. The monitor gadget is nice and I do keep an eye on it. If I am using Cakewalk DAW and see the RAM usage start moving toward 30 GB, then I might be inclined to turn the Pagefile back on, but until then...

So Jim, the latency that people experience is reduced by using a higher sample rate - because more music samples of sound are being streamed at any given time? Is that the upshot of it all? Again, so if we want to experience as little delay as possible in our monitors, then use as high as possible sample rate (cpu permitting) that your device can go?
