I never bought a retail one. Though it may be a Win 8 OEM that I upgraded with a MS Deal to Win 10 pro. Not sure if that made it a retail one?

I never really had an issue with it, I've been dragging the same windows 10 pro license over two times now, without disassociating it to my old machine before. Seems to be no problem as long as it is associated to your MS account.

With all the great NKS stuff NI has been releasing with their partners. Komplete 13 might be a day one upgrade for me.

Dammit there are never these kind of sales on hardware in Europe for some reason.

How is their keyswitch mapping compared to Cubase expression maps? Same function different name?

That is their standard Pro update price. But I agree it is pretty steep. I think I'll wait for Black Friday, or even on the 5.5 version.
