It's not the plugin what matters, but the license. If the license is tied to the card, he will not be able to use that plugin with other devices after transferring the license to you (or you won't be able to use it, unless he transfers the license to you). Let's be fair. We have been asking for this looooong time ago. Ok. It is not totally there yet, but it is going in the direction we asked. Let's be patient. In my case it does update properly but it failed to install Amplitube, no reason given. -

I played a little bit. Gave something nice on drums (nothing that I didn't have before, but nice), some deepness in the buss and some fun in synths here and there. All together for 25 turns tempting...
