  1. IMO three of the best jazz colleges in the US are (in no particular order) Berklee, University of Miami, and University of North Texas State. Here are the Texans doing a Ray Noble classic. These kids are hot, and so is the guest soloist. Cherokee - University of North Texas State One O'Clock Lab Band
  2. Here in South Florida, the endlessly popular Mr. B. We do this one but I made a Reggae arrangement of it. Son of a Son of a Sailor - Jimmy Buffett
  3. Doing a Billy Strayhorn composition. Billy supposedly wrote this in a hospital bed. Billy wanted to be a classical composer, but it was back in the days when a black man couldn't get into any college that taught classical composition. So he became a jazz composer, and IMO a great jazz composer at that. I feel sad that he couldn't chase his dream but glad that he left so many great jazz tunes. An Stan was an amazing sax player. Instead of hearing his monster chops, all you hear is melody so nice it could have been composed and revised for days instead of the fact that it was improvised on the spot. Blood Count - Stan Getz
  4. Wannabe - Spice Girls (Vintage "Andrews Sisters" Style Cover) - Postmodern Jukebox
  5. Baltimore Oriole - George Harrison Singing the Hoagy Carmichael jazz standard. I was looking for the Mark Murphy version which I have on CD but can't find on UTube. While searching I came across George Harrison. I've never heard this version before, so here goes... ... ..
  6. Circular breathing is very difficult on the flute because there is no resistance to the air flow. Hubert Laws is one of the few people I know that can do it. Tell me how many breaths you hear him take in this one: Romeo & Juliet - Hubert Laws
  7. "Killer Joe" - Jorge Dalto and the Interamerican Band doing his take on a Benny Golson song
  8. "Street Life" - The Jazz Crusaders featuring Randy Crawford
  9. One good Tchaikovsky deserves another: Capriccio Italien - Piotr Tchaikovsky - Antal Dorati conducting the Minneapolis Symphony
  10. Japanese Skokiaan - Spike Jones And His City Slickers
  11. Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6 "Pathétique" - Kurt Masur / LGO (1987) Tchaikovsky said he wept while writing this. Nine days after it's premier, it is suspected he killed himself by knowingly drinking water infected with Cholera. Others disagree. We'll never know. But his last composition is a great one.
  12. Here's one done in his studio, where Jacob plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals. Talented guy. "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" - Jacob Collier
  13. I never heard of this guy until today. He's a great performer and a fine musician as well. His crowd involvement is great as well. This one gives me faith in the younger generation. If you don't know about him, like me yesterday, it's worth checking out just for the show. With The Love In My Heart - Jacob Collier
  14. My favorite jazz vocalist's lyrics and take on a great Oliver Nelson song. Richie Cole plays the sax and the Muse All-Stars fill in the rest. Stolen Moments - Mark Murphy
  15. Here is a medley for isolating couples of opposite genres. Boogie Nights / Havin' My Baby / What Child Is This? And I can't believe in the first list I missed: Fever and Doc Of The Bay Notes
  16. More from the Cape Verde Islands: Cutch Cutch - Armandio Cabral
  17. If You See Kay - April Wine Association: Repeat the title 10 times fast if you haven't gotten it already https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
