Here's To Life - Shirley Horn She can sing a song slower than anyone I know and still keep it interesting. She is also an accomplished pianist.

Time for another lame music cartoon

1) There are more lame ones than good ones 2) The criteria is whenever anyone feels like it, it's time. Pretty much the same criteria for any post in The Coffee House -

Before the band with a B3 we had a Farfisa Combo Compact or something like that. An Italian competitor for the Vox Continental. We were on the road playing the college circuit back then. It was bright red with a black stripe on it. It had similar sounds to the Vox, not nearly as rich as the tone wheel Hammond organs, though. We used to switch instruments a lot in that band. I played the organ on "Psychotic Reaction" by Count 5. I don't remember what the keyboard player switched to or if he got on the mic for singing lead. We did a lot of showy schtick back then. At the end there is a 2-beat section that was supposed to be psychedelic I suppose, but in actually was just a lot of noise. One day I kicked my boot off and played glisses on the Farfisa. The girls went wild!!! "That guy is so good he could play with his foot!" was a typical comment. Playing college towns and having the girls go wild is always a good thing for a young boy on the road. :D :D :D We kept that up, and it seemed to always work, no matter what town we were in. A couple of bands later, I never played the B3, just help "lug and tote" it. Ah, fun memories. I'm living a charmed life. Notes ♫

In the late 70s I played in a band with a B3 player. It was over 400 pounds, and it took 4 of us to move it. But it sounded great. He had 2 Leslies and put one on either side of the stage. I've heard some of the digital reproductions, and they don't sound the same. It's close, but missing something. I can't explain what that is. If I were a B3 player on the road, I'd use a digital copy though, the audience wouldn't know the difference, and my back would. And as far as I'm concerned, all B3 players owe a debt to Jimmy Smith.

I agree, but I couldn't resist the Fresh Prince pun. That was his rapper name. - - - - - - I quit watching the Oscars in the 1980s. Amadeus, a movie about Mozart came out that year, I watched it because it was music related, and I played Mozart tunes in school. It was an OK movie, but not a great movie. It didn't do well at the box office at all, because most people are just not interested in Mozart and his music. Then it won the best picture Oscar. Next, they did something almost never done. They re-released Amadeus in the first run theaters of the day for a second time, and it turned a tidy profit. Almost everybody wanted to see the Oscar winner. That's when I realized that the Academy Awards is not actually an award show, but an advertisement. Who needs the money? That's probably why Hitchcock never won the best picture Oscar, even though he made some great movies, certainly worthy of the award. But his movies always made huge box-office profits, so he didn't need the Oscar award (read: promotion). That's just my opinion. Now back on topic:

I'm tired of hearing all this Oscar news, frankly, I don't care about the Oscars at all, but this pun just entered my brain this morning. Did Will Smith leave fresh prints on Chris Rock's face? ♫
