  1. Interestingly this room is about 2 feet bigger in each direction than my last studio, so it will probably get to be a similar size when done. I no longer record bands. I have a few nice guitar amps but I only record through the Fractal Axe FX III Turbo. I program drums using VSTs, I hack on keyboards a bit, and I do have some nice gear for recording my acoustic guitars but that about sums it up. I know my creative workflow and just need the right space for it. I also need to be able to play VR games in the space and we'll build that in as well! lol Should be a great project studio that fits my needs when it's done. ?
  2. I've only been here a month but totally understand that point!
  3. They aren't involved with the cost of build-out - they have a one-time fee for design. That number is based on their experience for the build-outs. Their design is certainly not cheap, but then again why should it be?
  4. The guys at Haverstick told me to expect $400-$500 per square foot for the studio project, so you are about right on that half million.
  5. My last studio was built over a long period of time. I had one wall that was a double-wall construction and all sides where double drywall of two different thicknesses hung on channel strips. There was so much caulk used you could fill the room with water like a swimming pool. I did a very good job overall, but I never got containment to where I wanted it (the ceiling and the floor in particular). I did get it sounding awesome but I still felt more could be done acoustically. That's why I'm hiring professionals this time - I need this done right to use the room the way I want to for the next few decades. ? Here are two studios that the designers told me to look at to get an idea of the level of room I'll have when done. There are a lot of design decisions to be made so I have no idea where my final design will end up - but I sure do like those hexagonal acoustic panels! ? https://www.haverstickdesigns.com/portfolio-item/tori-kelly-studio/ https://www.haverstickdesigns.com/portfolio-item/jacob-biz-morris/
  6. Ed's got the gist. In my case I need the inside of the house whisper quiet while I make noise - at whatever hour I choose. While the room only shares one wall with the rest of the house they believe that the flanking vibrations will be a problem so the room within a room and floating floor are for as total of isolation as you can get in a shared structure. Here's a nifty tool they have on their website so you can get a sense for what different types of construction do for sound isolation: https://www.haverstickdesigns.com/sound-isolation-simulator/
  7. The plan is a room within a room on a floating floor. ?
  8. The said they were backed up and won't start for 8 weeks. It's gonna be a loooong journey.
  9. OK progress! I've decided to hire Haverstick Designs (https://www.haverstickdesigns.com/) to do the studio build. The budget is about 4x what I planned for, but honestly it's the big shining thing I worked so hard for when growing our company and I decided I'd be nuts not to go for it. They guestimate 9 to 12 months for the work. I'll post updates here as we move forward...
  10. No way crazy man - I want as much natural sunlight as I can get! As it is the album storage takes away too much window so that’s going to change.
  11. Good eyes! Those are two UAD octo satellites and I have an RME UFX III in the left rack. I recently switched to RME from a UAD Apollo. I have the desktop control for RME but it’s lost on the left of the desk. lol
  12. So I packed my little isoAcoustic stands that sit on my Argosy bases but I lost track of what box they were in. After opening every single box, it occurred to me that I overlooked them. I finally found them (after reviewing so many boxes) and was able to hook up my Barefoot monitors. I haven't had then hooked up since the flood back in like February. I am actually quite surprised at how good this room sounds before any acoustic treatment, and it's such a treat to be listening to music on a quality system again! It's in its infancy, but the new studio is alive!
  13. It was so much work to do but shedding all the things we no longer needed or wanted before we moved was worth the work. Everything we unbox is something we chose to bring with us; I like the vibe of unpacking like this.
  14. Thank you! I have a consult with a design company in a few weeks. It’s a company out of Indiana recommended to me by Sweetwater rep. I did my last one and it came out well but this time I’ve decided to hire a professional to do the design for both acoustic treatment and sound containment.
  15. We are already enjoying it very much! it’s the calm before the storm right now though - the movers will be here in the next hour. I’m excited to have places to sit and my computers up and running sometime today. ?
  16. Well we arrived at the new home around noon yesterday. We had woken up early in Emigrant Springs State Park where we camped for the night and decided to hit the road. It sure is pretty up here and we just keep discovering new plants and flowers. We slept better last night than we have in weeks. We are hoping for another great night of sleep as the movers arrive tomorrow for deliver of over 300 boxes. I will breath a sigh of relief when they leave and our stuff is in the house. It’s beautiful, we love our new home, and the people have all been very welcoming so far. ☀️
  17. Well, I will probably check on the Deals forum this week but won't be around much until Sunday or Monday. The movers come to take our stuff tomorrow, and then we head out on Tuesday. We rented a one-way motorhome for my wife and I to take our dogs, plants, and other items we didn't want to have the movers take. It's a four day journey to Portland. I am actually really excited to be done with packing and to be getting on the road. I'm glad we took the time to go through all of our belongings before packing. We had over a dozen trips to Goodwill and we gave away enough stuff to furnish a two bedroom apartment. We got to make a lot of people smile and we get a chance of a fresh start when we get there. We are very excited about this new chapter and a new studio is my number one priority - but to be fair it's probably not the #1 priority of my wife. lol
  18. The new player actually worked on my PC and this has some lovely sounds. I look forward to playing with it after the move...
  19. Thank you for pointing this out! I might give it another look...
  20. I bought a version a few months ago and could not get their engine to work (they gave me a refund). I'd love to have this, but they'll need to move it to a better engine before I'll bite again.
