Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone may be able to help me with an issue that Im about to face with recording a gig. Im new to these technologies and so any help would be most appreciated.
The situation is a little unusual I guess because, with the kind assistance of a proper sound engineer at the venue, I will be recording multiple channels of independent audio direct from the mixing desk in the venue. He tells me that will produce an output that I can import easily into Cakewalk. Should be about 7 channels - vocals x2, bass, lead and rhythm guitars, drums and keys.
Im also videoing and capturing ambient sound using a Zoom F6 field recorder and Rode mikes.
Timecodes for the video and F6 audio are being provided by two Deity TC1’s and the sound engineer has said he will record the timecode from the third to another recorded track for me.
The theory behind all this is that I should be able to drop the video (with timecode), F6 audio and the desk audio into DaVinci Resolve and simply drop all the content onto a timeline using their individual (synchronised) timecodes.
I have tested this with DaVinci and it works fine for the media I have been able to test and Im assuming it will for the desk audio too - saving me having to manually sync it all up in post.
However - and here is the question - Id like to be able to work on the desk audio in Cakewalk before adding it to DaVinci, but I cant seem to find a way of making Cakewalk use the timecode track recorded as one of the channels. For the life of me I cant seem to get it to stripe the timecode onto the project, from the imported audio track as I can in DaVinci.
Does anyone know a way that this can be done so that I can mix down the desk audio (in fact all the audio) and still retain the timecode so that when I export it to DaVinci the timecode of the edited version is the same as the original and that on the video?
I hope that this is clear. Im wondering if the answer is, just leave the timecode track intact and linked to the other tracks and all will be well - in other words Cakewalk does not need to know about timecodes in this situation, but, what if I add the ambient audio from the F6? Then Cakewalk would need to know about the timecode to sync up this audio.
Any help or disassembly of my assumptions would be more than welcome. Also any pointers to using timecodes in general or in Cakewalk in particular would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
