  1. Thanks, 115 is not common in domestic UK situations, I don't have anything nor does anyone I know. I have a different 12v adaptor to try and maybe a 12v battery (these for the HA400) It was an Xmas gift from my son who is investigating the returns options. Once again thanks for all the help and advice. Perhaps I will investigate a lost cost passive splitter. I have found this, which has a USB symbol on the power supply, perhaps powering from the laptop would avoid the problem. It also has a ferrite bead on the power lead which is also encouraging... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CYLNQ8CM/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0CYLNQ8CM&pd_rd_w=nGr8p&content-id=amzn1.sym.46187d6a-4306-4bc6-830c-7b2085e0e39f&pf_rd_p=46187d6a-4306-4bc6-830c-7b2085e0e39f&pf_rd_r=KAYNDJ7V4JPHJHPR12XV&pd_rd_wg=Nuqci&pd_rd_r=56af9aa1-a24e-41c0-9897-2ea258930630&s=musical-instruments&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw
  2. Thanks, I have reached out to Behringer to see if they have any good suggestions. The HA400 power supply accepts Voltage from 100 - 240V, I cant hear/feel any hum on the AC/DC converter itself. Using an MP3 player as the audio source for the HA400 produces no hum, even with everything plugged in and powered up = only when HA400 audio input touches Laptop. The Radial Trim two looks lovely but is way out of my budget for this.
  3. Thanks Guys, my head is spinning with all the info. I should point out I am in UK so US style adaptors are not relevant. The Sound Bar speaker I use has a ferrite on it's power supply but neither of the others have (laptop & HA400). Using a different audio source (e.g. an mp3 player) connected to the HA400 = no hum. The hum only appears when I connect the HA400 via an audio lead (or via USB interface) to the laptop. i.e. I can have the sound bar, headphones etc. connected to the HA400 everything powered on = no hum until linked to the laptop. (I was mistaken in the earlier post running the laptop on battery still has hum when linked to HA400) The hum occurs as soon as the lead (audio or USB) comes into contact with the laptop This was always intended to be a low cost solution to unplugging and switching, I don't really want to invest more money in this, my resources would be better directed elsewhere.
  4. Wow a lot of info there..... OK The HA400 does not have an earth pin on it's adapter (it is plastic) the laptop adaptor does have an earth pin. The HA400 does not work without power. The hum goes away if I unplug the laptop ac adaptor. I have tried plugging the laptop adaptor into different sockets around the room but all produce the hum. I have also tried plugging the HA400 into different sockets around the room but all produce the hum. When I unplug the HA400 ac adaptor the hum slowly disappears but I guess this is just the residual current in the ac adaptor fading away. The laptop can only run a few hours without power so this isn't really a solution As the hum disappears when the laptop ac adaptor is unplugged what does this indicate? Would a different adaptor for the laptop produce different results or is it the interplay between the 2 ac adaptors? Thanks again for the help
  5. I have a very basic setup, for mixing songs. A laptop using three monitoring methods. DT770 Pro headphones plugged in to the 3.5mm audio jack of the laptop A goodmans sound bar plugged into the 3.5mm Audio jack My Stereo system (Nad amplifier) connected via a USB behringer audio interface UCA200 I also have a Behringer UM2 USB audio interface which I use mostly as an input device but can be used as an audio output. None of these produce any hum when connected directly (as mentioned above) Switching between monitoring methods currently involves plugging in the new method and switching the output in cakewalk (from audio to USB) . So for Xmas I got a Behringer HA400 HEadphone amplifier with 4 outputs, with the aim of simplifying switching between. I can connect all the monitor methods (headphones, Soundbar, stereo system) and power the HA400 = no hum. As soon as I connect the HA400 to the laptop either via the audio jack OR either of the USB interfaces there is a low frequency hum/buzz. (to describe the hum/buzz, In a live environment I used to occasionally get similar hum connecting my guitar to the amplifier depending on the venue we were performing at) This only occurs as soon as the 3.5mm jack OR USB plug touches the laptop and continues even when fully plugged in. All the volume controls are a zero on the HA400 It isn't there when the HA400 is powered up and connected to any/all of the monitors only when the HA400 is connected to the laptop, so I assume a potential ground loop problem, however all these devices are plugged into the same 4 way extension socket so the laptop and the HA400 should not have a ground loop issue (Both do have AC/DC adaptors) I do not believe it is the audio cable from laptop to HA400 as I have tried 2 different cables (same result) and it also is there when the connection is via USB. Any thoughts or advice please. Thanks
  6. I have asked questions about exporting before and modified my process accordingly, but now the behaviour of Cakewalk seems to have changed following the latest update. I export by using the File/Export menu option, I do not use the export module in the toolbar. I find the menu option gives more information and I find the Toolbar method more restrictive. During my previous questions it became apparent that I needed to choose a method which enabled me to select the master bus when exporting , this avoided any problems with volume levels etc. on the monitor "bus" (I monitor at different levels depending on headphone, nearfield monitor or main monitors) I also do not select the "project" time when exporting, I always create space at the start to give me room in case I wish to add an intro, this avoids having to move all clips should this occur. Therefore I always use Time Selection for exporting so I can trim unwanted space at the start and end. Here lies the question.... Previously when I selected Time selection All the tracks became "selected" i.e. the track number became highlighted. Then all tracks were included in the mix. NOW, what ever track was selected remains selected and no others, then the mix only includes that track!!! The only way around this I have found is to Select All tracks (Ctrl A) before File/Export, then the mix does contain all tracks. This is where I am confused. As I select the Master bus when exporting, why do I need to have all track selected (the track number highlighted) to include them in the mix? Why did this happen automatically before and is not happening now. Obviously I have found a solution to this but could someone educate me on either the Toolbar export option AND/OR the File/Export method. Thanks
  7. Thanks for the tip Glenn, I have kept a copy of the original default.
  8. Thanks Guys, I have tried looking at several things, I can adjust the machine heads to change the tuning but only by whole notes and I don't think this is the issue. In this Ample Guitar (Semi-Hollow) I found by using a different preset from "default" The chord(s) were back in tune. Not sure why the default is out of tune or how to fix it, It could be as suggested earlier corruption in the sample library, but I feel this could be a large rabbit hole to disappear down. Having found a setting which is OK I can move on and use the guitar as needed. I don't have a working version of Melodyne ATM I am waiting for the black friday deals to see what is available. Once again all you advice has been most helpful
  9. I am NOT a guitarist, but I use some ample sound guitars to augment sections in songs. Mostly I do not have any problems but this guitar sounds out of tune to me. (See attached Video, Apologies for the quality it was the only way I could get it small enough to load ). I use strum mode to play chords or use the pattens but this sounds out of tune to me. How can that be and what do I do to rectify it? Other Ample guitars do not seem to have this problem..... Any advice welcomed. Thanks Screen Recording 2024-11-11 160039~2.mpg
  10. Thanks David, It isn't a huge problem, just ensuring it wasn't something simple I was or was not doing.
  11. Yes it appears the Drum Map is the thing preventing me seeing the notes. Easiest way is to remove the drum map and add it back later (If needed again) I still cannot see why once it did leave the Drum mapped notes visible, but I will be more observant and if I discover the situation I will report back. Thanks again
  12. When I am editing midi Bass lines (maybe other instruments also) it would help if I could see the drum pattens I have in the drum map area. Only once, and I do not know how I achieved this, I could see the Kick, snare etc. showing in the top section of the piano roll view. Now every time I select the Bass Midi Track the Drum info disappears. (see attachment which shows the drum info) I have experimented with filters but this did not work (not sure what filters do anyway) Any advice would help me keep my bass notes with the Kick and snare. Thanks
  13. Thanks, not sure why but my experience is not the same as yours..... If you look at my 1st Screenshot it shows the monitor fader on the far right - not part of the mixing buses and it changes if I change my output to a USB driven set of speakers. Indeed when I first started using Cakewalk I didn't know this section was here, so I used to have to go to my speakers and adjust the volume there and just cope with whatever headphone volume I got. My headphones do not have volume controls so I adjust this fader as necessary i.e. lower for general mixing/monitoring but higher when I need to hear something specific/subtle. My nearfield monitors have a remote so I could adjust here but my Big monitors are powered via an amplifier on the other side of the room. It is easier to adjust the fader. When you see the 2nd screenshot and I choose Entire Mix it seems to be routed through this monitor mix. If I chose Buses as the source (3rd Screenshot) , all the buses are initially selected, but the Drum mix, Vox Mix, Guitar mix etc. are all routed to the master, so are you suggesting I deselect all but the master? And finally If I choose export from the module (Top right in screen shot 1) I do not see the options (Screenshot 2&3) all I get is the option for the file name & bit depth. Thanks again, all comments help me better understand how/what is going on (and I hope any future readers of these posts)
  14. Up until now I have been exporting MP3 & Wavs via the menu option. I did not realise that this method was routed via the "speaker" bus. Hence if I was monitoring at a lower level then the resulting file would also be at a lower level. Now, I have looked at the Export function in the export module. This offers far fewer options, does this also route through the "monitor" bus or is it direct from the master bus? Basically which method should I be using to export files. Ideally the level at which I am monitoring through my speakers/headphones etc. should not affect the mixed output file. Thanks
  15. Thanks, that's what I needed to know. There may be other functions available when one right clicks - I have not been trying this on all the buttons/controls.
  16. I found the problem, somehow Loop had been switched on but with no loop section selected. Hence it was looping nothing. However, any comments on Kontakt 7 player, Orchestra elements would be valued. I am actually searching for a free instrument/sample to achieve a Sam & Dave or Stak records type sax/horn sound, (free of course) if anyone has any suggestions - thanks
  17. I was tempted to experiment with some brass and orchestra plugins so installed The Orchestra Elements Library which required Kontact7 player and Native access. Now Cakewalk is performing erratically. It sometimes wont play i.e. pressing play does not start the transport. I prefer my cakewalk working and would forgo using these new plugins but am not sure why the problem is occuring so removing (uninstalling) them may not solve the problem. It could just be coincidence, I had previously installed the recent cakewalk update but didn't notice any problems at that time. Has anyone else noticed problems with the transport and how can I troubleshoot what is happening? OR should I just uninstall what I have just installed? Thanks
  18. I use a mixture of Automated Mute and automated volume to remove unwanted sections of a track. Automated Volume changes are reflected in the console as the fader moves, however automated mutes don't illuminate the manual mute button. While I appreciate that a manual mute is different from an automatic mute I would like to know if a track is has automatic mute applied without looking at the track's automation line. i.e. in the console view Any tips please
  19. Thanks Promidi, I have discovered the resize module and other configurations of modules (see above) also gives the marker list - but also ALL the modules are made more comprehensive (i.e. larger) many of these I don't need to be bigger. I can either turn them off until I do need them or live with them being a bit bigger. ATM I still have space for those I need along with those I only use occasionally.
  20. I have discovered some of the other selections (e.g. Advanced, record) show the larger marker module with the drop down list selector. I also found if I changed the size of all modules to Medium then the markers module has the options I want, this however makes other modules larger also. I cannot see a way of customising individual modules to a size
  21. I have just applied the latest update as the prompt was becoming very insistant, even though there was nothing of interest to me in it. I have now discovered the Markers module does not show a list of markers for you to select. There is only next, previous and add a marker. Does anyone know how to get the module to offer the option to select which marker you wish to navigate to? (this is what was there before the update) Thanks
  22. Here is the thing, It was this year I was invited to mix some songs (we were in a band in the 80s/90s) So I looked around and discovered cakewalk by Bandlab was free and looked good to me. I later discovered the singer was using Reaper but by then I was committed to Cakewalk. Whenever I tried changing the preferences to ASIO nothing worked but leaving it on WASAPI exclusive seemed to be OK (Laptop running Windows 11) I dabbled with ASIO4ALL with little success and the WASAPI was not giving me any issues, so I have not explored ASIO any further. In my experience if something is working don't mess with it. However, if someone can explain why ASIO is worth my exploring further I will listen. If this was a desktop machine and I had a chance of utilising a soundcard, maybe this would be the catalyst. OR if I were to purchase a USB device that used ASIO again that would be a consideration. Meanwhile I will use my spare finances for things I need more (e.g. A melodyne license ) Please advise if I have misunderstood the ASIO vs WASAPI situation...
  23. Thanks, I have the input devices sorted, probably not the best But I have a Behringer UM2. It has been mentioned that this would be troublesome but as long as I use a USB2 and not a USB3 port it works OK. My "issue" is that my output monitoring is either via the headphone output OR a really old Behringer UCA200 USB which gives me RCA stereo input & output. so switching between monitoring systems is a minor irritant. Metering, Obviously I am monitoring the track from source using the Cakewalk meters and gain staging to some degree (Once I begin adding FX and have adjusted the fader I stop messing with the gain - but I do ensure any FX have enough gain to drive them) At the master fader end I am using SPAN to watch for clipping and the overall LUFTS (and frequencies, stereo etc) Headphones: after some research I purchased DT770 Pro 32ohm. I chose these as they had good reviews and reported a flat frequency response. For my setup I was given to believe the 32ohm would be better given the low output, but I still have to boost to nearly full to really hear everything - This works for now but is one of the reasons I am exploring a different output device a) so it is easier to switch between the 3 systems I monitor with and b) to perhaps give more output for the headphones. As always there is limited budget and an output device may fall behond other essentials Thanks again for the advice/info
  24. Yes it is strange, but it did happen and not on purpose by me. Lets see if it happens again or anyone else reports it occuring.
  25. Thanks sjoens, That's exactly the point, when I was working on the project they were buses, Now I have re-opened the project they appear as Aux tracks. Again I don't know why the Vox bus didn't switch over, and the other two did??? Now I have found them I can check any processing on them, re-create the bus, re-route the track outputs to the bus and delete the Aux tracks. OR just work with them in the track area........ Functionally, Aux tracks will work like the buses except for solo and muting (I think)
