  1. What version did you have before installing Sonar Free, and in that version, did you have workspaces enabled?

I believe that when you install Sonar Free, workspaces in Sonar Free are locked to the workspace that your previous version of Cakewalk used and you cannot edit them.

Remember, unless you have specifically configured a workspace not to, workspaces will load its stored Keybindings.

Maybe this is what is happening in Sonar Free.

  2. I tried a simple piano phrase and a staccato string phase on a second track with an articulation with a -300ms delay  on each track here and this played fine.

All notes on both track played with their correct respective velocities and controllers ( I used CC10 on the string track to alternate the string panning as part of the test)

Synths used Arturia Piano V3 and 8DIO Strings anthology.

The articulation map started before any MIDI events in their respective tracks and the  articulation map durations were for their entire respective phrases.

This is with the latest Sonar 2025.7 build 63

Which option(s) do you use to make sure not to load screen layouts from Workspaces?  Window Layout?

    Yes, Windows Layouts.

On a side note, I also deselect ’Keyboard Shortcut” and “Display Settings” (as you have done) and “Track Control Manager”.

  4. If you are using a Workspace, make sure you configure that workspace to not load screen layouts from that workspace.  These will override screen layouts set by screensets.

I use a combination of Workspace and screensets.  For any given project, I make sure my screensets are locked (only unlocking them to make changes, and then relocking).  None of my workspaces load their respective screen layouts.

  5. Change Log

    What’s new in SampleTank 4.2.6

Removed discontinued SampleTank libraries from default browser view.
    General reliability improvements

I checked what discontinued SampleTank libraries were removed from my specific default browser view.

    Miroslav Philharmonik 2
    Syntronik Free

Note: I had to do a full rescan of the content for all of the content to appear in Sampletank 4 after performing this update.

I am pretty sure no actual content is removed, however.

For instance, the Miroslav Philharmonik 2 content still appears when you search (though Miroslav Philharmonik 2 content only shows if no categories are selected)

And this one appears to be double the size as the installed one is a bit over 20 GB.

On the “My Products” page, the Synth Anthology RAR file is 18.4 GB.  It does on mine.

I think UVI account for the download size plus that extracted UFS file size.  The UFS file itself would probably come in at just over 20 GB.  For the download and install to succeed, the full 40 GB needs to be available.  Of course, once the UFS file is extracted to your UVI content folder, you are free to deleted the RAR file (or back it up somewhere else).

So tell me, if I bite and pay the $49, what happens at the end of the year. Do I still get to use Sonar Premium?

It says on the offer page (down the bottom, in a smaller font), "Subscription auto-renews at regular price."  I am confident that, when it gets close to renewal time, you will get an email letting you know you will be charged.

If you choose not to renew, then it would revert to Sonar Free Tier.

  8. An Aux track needs its input echo enabled to receive audio.  A bus does not have such an input echo. A bus always receives any audio routed to it.

This comes into play if you have some AUX tracks that will suddenly stop working when you inadvertently click the global input echo toggle in the Mix Module to disable all input echoes.  The AUX tracks stop working because those input echo are also toggled. You have to remembebr to re-enable the input echos of any Aux Tracks.

This is why I use buses instead of Aux track when I want to route multiple tracks to a single track.

With the recent announcement of Sonar's free tier, I am curious about any removed features before transitioning over to Sonar. What items will I not have access to after transitioning to the free Sonar tier? In other words, what does the old Cakewalk app have that the free version of Sonar doesn't have?

Please define "old Cakewalk app" exactly.  Exact Name and version as appears in its Help - About.
