A bit better than the normal quality of tracks in these remix competitions.

As a longtime cakewalk user, I received 808 samples from the original ROMs years ago when Roland owned Cakewalk.  I have probably thousands of 808 samples from other sources. There is no logical reason to buy for the sound. What does interest me is workflow. I have Drumazon 1 and occasionally will use it and a barebones setup like Drumazon, Arturia Juno 106 and maybe one more vintage synth with minimal use of DAW features . I use old techniques like using the 909 sequencer to trigger bass lines.

I'm not sure how you received 808 samples from the original ROMs - all the 808 sounds were synthesized. On the 909, the hats and cymbals were samples.

Almost everything I do is based around a minimal set up of Audiorealism's ABL3 and ADM, and some samples. Although I will often end up with 2 or 3 instances of ABL3 playing different 303 lines.

  3. In the end, I couldn't help myself.

I was pleased to find that it cost me £15 including VAT.

I've just got to remember to install it and actually use the thing.

One disappointing event, a nag screen at the opening? What is this, the 80's? Such an annoying and useless "feature", nearly makes me want to uninstall.

That's 10 seconds of your life you're not going to get back.

  5. I installed the original Nepheton, had a quick play around, couldn't figure out how to get it do to want I wanted, and then never used it again. The workflow was a pig.

I went back to using Audiorealism's ADM, which I use for all my 606/808/909 (and drum sampler) needs.

$19 seems a real bargain, but the number of "bargains" I've acquired for less than $20 dollars and never used is ridiculous.
