  1. You can also simply blank out the VST paths in VEGAS preferences and "apply". No more "grovelling" for VSTs! But that is a good idea to create a separate folder for FX plugins, or at least a subset of them that might be useful in an audio or video editor.
  2. In the short video of new things they do mention some prog rock additions. But I doubt they had Dream Theater in mind! ?
  3. I got the 2021 UltraPak+ which came on a hard drive. If I just upgrade the BIAB program to 2023 Pro with the 70 new features for $69, will all of my existing 2021 UltrPak+ content continue to work? I really don't want to add any more content if I don't have to unless the new features would require it.
  4. I think it's a great idea to curate of list of the best (and free) libraries in Pianobook! Not trying to hijack the thread, but this info may be of related interest: An alternative place to look for similar small single instrument libraries, if anybody has not already done so, are the free libraries from Spitfire LABS that have already been curated by Spitfire. Most are high quality and interesting/unusual simple instruments, but are locked into the dedicated Spitfire plugin format which I am not absolutely crazy about. But usable I would say, because there are some fine sounds in there. What is LABS? "An infinite series of free software instruments, made by musicians and sampling experts in London, for anyone, anywhere. Presented in our own plug-in, they are easy to use, and compatible with any DAW. And in case you missed it — they're all free." https://spitfireaudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012758197-Spitfire-Audio-LABS-Manual-and-Quick-Start-Guide
  5. The fact that it touched so many artists from all walks of life in so many ways is reflected in the many number of covers and interpretations it inspired over the years. For the Wikipedia article linked previously: "Since 1991, "Hallelujah" has been performed by a wide variety of singers: over 300, and in various languages. Statistics from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Canadian Recording Industry Association, the Australian Recording Industry Association, and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, show that, by late 2008, more than five million copies of the song sold in CD format. It has been the subject of a BBC Radio documentary, a book, and been in the soundtracks of numerous films and television programs. Different interpretations of the song may include different verses, out of the over 80 verses Cohen originally wrote." Also: Meaning of "Hallelujah" This world is full of conflicts and full of things that cannot be reconciled. But there are moments when we can reconcile and embrace the whole mess, and that's what I mean by 'Hallelujah.' —Leonard Cohen
  6. Gear lust. Great centerfold!
  7. I believe this post belongs in the "Instruments and Effects" forum.
  8. I just had a play around with the free MConvolutionEZ from Melda (mentioned in the article above), and it works great in CW! https://www.meldaproduction.com/MConvolutionEZ Never tried it before, but it's got a permanent home here now! Tons of impulse responses and presets included (drum room included)!
  9. Take look here. Probably something more up to date and 64-bit for free. Best FREE Convolution Reverb VST Plugins https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2019/03/18/free-convolution-reverb-vst/ I my opinion, I would try the Melda plugin first. I own several of their plugins, plus many of their free ones. They are always high quality and relatively bug free. The developer is always updating the bundle.
  10. They are great guys at KV331 Audio! Small company and team that is willing to go the extra mile. I got a freebie from them once for alerting them to an issue with their shopping cart!
  11. https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/secret-chord-leonard-cohens-hallelujah-music/ For context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallelujah_(Leonard_Cohen_song) "When at age 50 Cohen first recorded the song, he described it as "rather joyous", and said that it came from "a desire to affirm my faith in life, not in some formal religious way, but with enthusiasm, with emotion." He later said "there is a religious hallelujah, but there are many other ones. When one looks at the world, there’s only one thing to say, and it’s hallelujah""
  12. Yeah, when I picked up EZkeys I chose the upright because I was already up to my eyeballs in grands and the upright had a nice sound, so good for a change! But I will add that Arturia did a rather nice job with the uprights collection in the new Piano V3.
  13. Well if you play only the white keys you can switch between C Major and A minor! ?
  14. Per the EZkeys release notes, the last update was to v1.3.3 on March 15, 2022. https://www.toontrack.com/release-notes/release-notes-ezkeys/ Just guessing that Toontrack are probably working on the next major update. The current EZkeys lacks a VST3 plugin and an updated GUI, so a major version update could bring it in line with their other EZbass and EZdrummer 3 products. Don't see any reason for them not to do that, as they are still releasing expansions and MIDI for EZkeys.
  15. Not really... 2 chords is all you need for ambient. Plus a lot of reverb! ...jk
  16. That sounds good! But I'm winging it with just the EZkeys Upright Piano. Maybe I'm spoiled but I also have the Arturia Piano V3, the XLN Addictive Keys Studio Grand, the Waves Grand Rhapsody, and numerous pianos in NI Komplete and IK SampleTank MAX. I particularly like the NI Noire and Una Corda. Too many options already!
  17. I like to keep my 500GB OS SSD about 50% used, which in my case only requires about 250GB. I make daily full images of my OS boot drive every night, and retain about 5 days worth of images on my backup drive. If my OS drive held more data than 250GB, the images would run longer and the backup drive would need a lot more space. So it's an efficiency decision for me. As it is, only about 40 minutes are required to restore my boot drive with a previous image if things in software ever go sideways. And they occasionally have. No need to waste hours and days troubleshooting, just roll back and good to go again in 40 minutes! My OS drive contains Windows, plus my account folders like documents, etc., along with all applications and plugin folders (.dll & .vst3). All application content and plugin sample libraries are kept on a separate internal SSD that gets backed up weekly.
  18. Probably your best bet would be to search YouTube for tutorials by ambient producers. I have listened to various genres of progressive rock/ambient/new age music for decades but have never tried to seriously write it other than some noodles and scribbles here and there. I seriously doubt that it follows a pop rock song structure, but I'm sure there must be a discipline to writing the good stuff, at least in the A, B, A, C, A, B parts etc. Repeating the familiar is an old trick.
  19. Not too bad!!! I put a 500GB 970 EVO Plus M.2 in my system as the boot drive, fast as hell! I didn't need 2 TB for that use, but this one would make an excellent sample content drive!
  20. And to think that I paid nearly $1500 for a single KORG workstation in 1994. Pricey!!! ?
  21. That's a great price! I still don't see a compelling reason to upgrade from v5 at the current non-EDU price, other than for under the hood updates and on-going bug fixes. If v5 or v4 works, then great, but PreSonus will never issue bug fixes or future OS compatibility releases for them. I can wait until the price drops a little more. But it's a bit like WUP.
  22. Ambient, classical, Tangerine Dream...
  23. $118 for me at Cherry Audio. I've got a ways to go to get a really cheap deal!
  24. You do realize that with EZkeys you can enable MIDI out in the VST, mute the internal piano audio, and use any other piano VST in your DAW as the target sound generating module. Only necessary to buy the expansion sounds if you really like them.
