Found an AAX plugin folder with over 1GB - safe to delete?
abacab replied to abacab's topic in Instruments & Effects
Another annoyance is that some 3rd party installers default to my "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins" folder instead of "C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns" folder. If I catch that before I hit OK, it's usually not a problem. I only want my Cakewalk plugins in their respective folder and everything else in the general folder. -
Just fyi, be aware that the major feature updates to Windows 10 (i.e. 1809, 1903, etc.) are actually full OS version upgrades, not just patches. The relevant issue here is that this Windows upgrade will change the computer ID of the system that some product activation/authorization systems rely on, rendering some products inactivated after the upgrade. Also, sometimes Windows system settings can be reset from custom settings that you may have applied. It is a good idea to keep a checklist of any modifications you may have made to preferences, so that you can verify they are still active after an upgrade.

Like a lot of other Air Music Tech stuff, it still has value, and a good sound, but is time for a facelift! But for the price, it's worth a shot! There is not much else out there that can do what it can. And there may be a few small bugs, but no showstoppers.

Yup, it seems at times that some developers think that the only thing you are running on your machine is their product, exclusively. So they put things wherever they wish! They should always take into account that the end user may run multiple products and needs 100% control and consent of install paths and content locations. -
Starship’s ‘We Built This City’: Really The Worst?
abacab replied to kitekrazy1's topic in The Coffee House
This song hit #1 on the Hot 100 in 1985. Has anybody listened to a recent top of the charts hit list??? Go check it out, and then tell me if things have gotten better or worse... -

Well we were talking here mainly about Avid AAX plugins, but yes, AAS (Applied Acoustic Systems) VST plugins do have those tendencies as well. Good point! -

You can go into your forum user settings and click on "My Attachments" and manage them there. The trash can icon should take care of your issue for any items you wish to remove. -

You only need AAX if you are running Pro Tools. Unfortunately some plugin installers don't give you a choice. I also find that some installers will drop VSTs in a Steinberg folder for some reason, without asking. I don't typically have Steinberg in my VST scan paths, so those plugins will remain lost until I move them into my main VST folder. -

Your best bet is to use a 3rd party image hosting service such as https://www.imgur.com and post the direct link here. The forum software shrinks images to very tiny proportions if you upload them directly. -
Kontakt (even the free Player) can do MIDI out. Options > Engine > Send MIDI to outside world (incoming notes, script generated notes, etc.) The Ample Sound instruments can do this, but they are not multi-timbral. Even the free Ample Guitar M II Lite can send the generated strummer pattern to MIDI. The paid Ample Bass with the Riffer module can send the Riffer note patterns to MIDI as well. Either way you can drive another instrument with those patterns, or record and edit them in a MIDI track. Settings > MIDI out (on/off)

VST2 is on the way out...

I had to exclude (black list) the Sektor VST2 in Cakewalk for that reason. The VST3 worked fine. I upgraded to Sektor 1.3.2 today and the VST3 continues to work fine. Give that a try!

[ SOLVED ] - How to record MIDI arp realtime
abacab replied to sadicus's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Not really a MIDI recording question, but here's a quick answer. Vocalizer Pro outputs audio, not MIDI. So it is just an effect processor that processes an input audio signal, and outputs an effected audio signal. The MIDI input is used to modulate the effect. A quick way to record the effect output in Cakewalk would be to insert an Aux Track (right click on the audio track with the Vocalizer plugin in the FX bin, select "Insert Send > New Aux Track". Arm the Aux Track for record, and record your Vocalizer Pro performance there. If you are playing the effect "live" you could also capture the MIDI performance on the MIDI track that your controller is connected to, by arming that for record. But If you are entering the MIDI part by hand on the piano roll editor, or using a pre-recorded MIDI clip, that wouldn't be necessary. -
Problems with AmpliTube 2 Live installation
abacab replied to mwall's topic in Instruments & Effects
Unfortunately that's the reality with using old software. Once it ages out of support, there is no guarantee that it will work forever, or remain compatible with new software. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don't. I have heard some pros advise to always print your tracks to audio before archiving the projects, because there is always a chance that your plugins that created those tracks may be inaccessible or unavailable in the future. -
Febreeze, anyone???

Problems with AmpliTube 2 Live installation
abacab replied to mwall's topic in Instruments & Effects
Why not just replace the missing plug-in with Amplitube 4, and then as Peter suggested, run the Amplitube 2 gear in that? Then re-create the preset, and save a new version of the project. That should bypass any old plug-in compatibility issues. -
Add this to the Flatulus library and you are all set!!! https://soundiron.com/products/flatulus You won't need sh*t if you have them both!!!

I happily enjoy listening to my Spotify web account through my firewire ASIO interface and KRK monitors on my DAW computer! Much better than stock Windows audio and a Creative 2.1 audio system. I use that for my non-DAW laptop!

AppCrashView is a small utility for Windows that displays the details of all application crashes that occurred in your system. The crash information is extracted from the .wer files created by the Windows Error Reporting (WER) component of the operating system every time that a crash occurred. 100% free! https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html In many cases that the crash was caused by a specific plugin, I have seen the plugin name in the "Fault Module Name". I frequently see this associated with Exception Code Value=c0000005. Exception code c0000005 is the code for an access violation. That means that your program (or plugin) is accessing (either reading or writing) a memory address to which it does not have rights. So either stop using the offending plugin, or send support requests and crash dumps to the devs so that they can debug the crashes. It's not going to magically fix itself.

Some plugins have MIDI out capability, in which case you could capture the performance by an arp (or a strummer, or riffer, etc) by directly recording the MIDI out in another MIDI or instrument track.
