  1. I saw early on that there were very strong women being portrayed in Star Trek Voyager. And back then I took it as a very positive thing. And they did it so well. Each character had their own story line that contributed to the whole story. Really well written and acted show.

I am on the eleventh episode of DS9. All this talk about it got me wanting to watch it again.  I have been watching one or two episodes a day. I watched an episode with Brian Keith (I get my middle name from him my mother told me) as an old man that Kira got attached to. Really good episode. There was a scene in which Sisko is talking very sternly to Kira as her commander, then takes a pause, steps out of his role and talks to her as a friend and Kira starts to tear up as she comes to realize some deep emotions she has been denying. Powerful stuff. Great acting!

There is another completely different story line going on in that episode that I don't really know if all who watch it catches what was said. Anyway....

  2. Earlier that day I was at the in-laws watching the Saints and Rams game, then we had to go to the grand kids house. But I finally made it home long enough to get the telescope set up and dress up! It was cold!

For me it was a set of events that all fell into place. Which is rare.

    I was off from work.

Didn't have to get up early the next morning for work either!

No cloud cover in southern Louisiana.

    I was at home.

Neighbors didn't have the spot/flood lights going!

Assome one who has used MAGIX's Plug-Ins (the ones bundles with VEGAS Pro and Samplitude), this statement is definitely false.

But they may still be good enough for newbies.

I may not be a profession sound man. Or work as a recording engineer. But I know, as well as many other pro's on this forum, these plugins can sound just as good as anything out there now. Prove me wrong.

You don't have to be a noob to use them.  Articles have been written by professionals that still use these plugins today.

  4. I watched Andromeda but can't remember it. I wouldn't have remembered it had you not mentioned it.

And Rain I feel the same way about the Abrams films. I will watch them, and enjoy them. But they sure are trying to get Star Wars like for sure. I am not a Star Wars fan. I went to the theaters when it first came out years ago, watched it and loved it. I think we went back and watched it several more times too. But I didn't go see the second, or the third, or any episode since.

  5. Great comments in this thread.

Practice is number one. I learned the hard way the most all of the songs I write ebb and flow, it's never the same! I haven't found a drum program able to follow along and allow me to 'feel' like I am playin with a real drummer. Jamstix 4 gets real close though. But at times it too can not keep up with the feel.

I mostly do sections at a time of playing my guitar, bass,  and vocals. But After I have the drums all fleshed out I will record a rough guide of each instrument/vocal to get the feeling down before it slips away (this can be done many different ways, thinking too much, trying to get it too exact, too loose,  too perfect.....). Later I'll add the parts I want after much practicing.

For me, nothing beats getting it done right in the first set of takes. However, I have gotten great results at the last few takes of a twenty take session! So again,  as they say, there are no rules. That's why I love rock-n- roll!!

DS9 would have to be my favorite - characters have so much more depth to them than in other shows... There are a lot of grey areas, shade and light.  Garak is one of my favorite  ST characters and a great example of that.

The Orville is a great show. My wife and I were hooked 5 minutes into the first show.

My exact thoughts on DS9 Rain. And I had forgot about Garak until I was watching the episodes of the first season and he was on the third one I think? Something about the way Andrew Robinson plays Garak that makes him stand out from the ordinary. I think most of the Cardassian's in DS9 are played really well.

My fav Cardasian show (from STTNG) was the one with Jean Luc as a prisoner. (There Are Four Lights!)

Will look up the Orville for sure now!!

  7. I love my Surface. Working on a song in EZ Keys right now. I have also used my Surface to do some practice mixing on it using headphones. I was surprised at really how much I can do with it. I have a project that has almost 50 audio trks and I had Waves SSL/PA bx_Console SSL on every channel  with other fx thrown in. Use Window WASAPI Exclusive and it works like a charm.

The Virtual Keyboard that comes with CbB is great to use with the touch screen. I use it to get ideas down and then work from there. In fact my last three or four songs was started on the surface. A lot of the time I have a song down and all togeher somewhat, then use the Surface to program the drums Jamstix/EZD2.

I have a Surface with an i7 4650, 8gb RAM, 128 hd and a 128gb SansDisc micro SD card. It ain't got much space at all, but if I manage it right, I really don't notice. I can tell you this much, when this one bites the dust, I am getting another one.

About the cursor, It never happened to me. Then it started doing it and was happening almost everytime I used it. I would have to restart it to get the mouse to come back. Then it stopped. Don't know why, but it hasn't done it in a while.

Back to topic, what version of W10 is the OP running?

The OP is Erik, and I think he's pretty much figured out what the problem was. We are just continuing this conversation as it's developed. Erik still jumps in from time to time!  : )

I ran an Athlon DAW for years. In fact I was running that machine as my main DAW and had an Intel q6600 in my home PC. Had Sonar loaded on both and was constantly surprised at how that Athlon did a better job than the Q6600. Granted the Athlon was running XP SP2 and the Intel had Vista!!

But when Win 7 came out I put it on the Q6600 and then upgraded my Athlon machine to i7 2600 with WIn7. And that thing is still going strong with Win10. It does get bogged down when I start mixing down, but I just increase the buffers and it just keeps rolling on. It has an older AMD video card in it that was new at the time, but not top of the line at all.

When AMD came out with Ryzen I was really hopeful that it would put them back in the game and it did. I know that Intel still has the best single core brute strength, but AMD is, like Jim said, doing better with multicore programs. You can build a great video workstation for less money using AMD.

Way off topic now! : )

  9. John, I saw your post in the other section. I wanted to help so I went to try out Groove Quantize with a Blues clip from EZK.  Using the default setting all I got was what you described. Also tried some of the presets. Did you try them? Nothing really seemed to be useful.

I have used the Groove Quantize to good effect before. But it was Grooves that I captured from another clip. And it's been so long since I had a need for it that I haven't used it in a long while. But the key to getting good results from the GQ is the Goove File.

I then got off on another whim and started working with Catanya. Great product! I played with that for a few hours! : )

Work around 1: Convert the clip ( or just a section of the clip) into the Step Sequencer clip and use the swig and timing parameters in the SS to get the desired feel.

2: Convert to audio and a): Use Audio Snap to adjust the feel of it, b): Use Melodyne to do the same thing.

I have worked with Audio snap and you can select three or more transients and grab one and slide it forward or backward and the rest of the selected transients will adjust to equal the time out between all selected transients. I have had excellent results using this method. Takes a little practice, but once you get it....  : )
