What are the 4 white dots in a MIDI track view?
RobertWS replied to RobertWS's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
No, I mean the little clickable icons disappear. 😀 Previously, I only worked on pure MIDI files, but Cakewalk removed some features so now I have to use their project files to work. At the end though, I revert to a MIDI file. "FWIW, Separate clips on one track can be set to open different editing views." Yeah, I noticed the little icons changing based on the popup menu selection. -
What are the 4 white dots in a MIDI track view?

I'm surprised because 'pure' midi tracks don't have the concept of clips. Just a sequence of notes and midi commands. It must be something CakeWalk superimposes on the track when cutting and pasting. EDIT: I found you can select all the MIDI notes in a track, select "Bounce to Clips" and the clickable icons disappear (except for the last one). PS: Happy Thanksgiving! -
What are the 4 white dots in a MIDI track view?

Ahhh. But setting it to nothing does not remove them, it disables double clicking. A single click still pops up a menu. Now that I know what they are...they don't bug me. -
I spent 40 minutes trying to find the answer but couldn't. In MIDI tracks, what are the four white dots (circled in red) that appear, apparently at random, in MIDI tracks?

BassMidi VSTI is missing instrument names/patches
RobertWS replied to RobertWS's topic in Cakewalk Sonar
Thanks for that, I had found it but it involves several extra mouse clicks...the horror. It'll probably be easier to print out the list of patches and numbers! EDIT: I found another workaround. Select Microsoft GS Wavetable synth as the output...you get the patch names. Choose a patch and then switch back to BassMidi. -
I got and installed BassMidi VSTI to use with Calkwalk Sonar. It is playing the loaded soundfonts correctly. However, the patch names are not showing up in Track view: BassMidi HAS the instrument names, they appear in the BassMidi configuration window: I tried to import or design an instrument definition file but BassMidi isn't in the list...only Microsoft GS Wavetable: What do I need to fix this? Thanks.

I only listened to it to hear you botch the octave plus a minor 3rd interval (the 2nd, "Where do....."). But you nailed it!

If a song has multiple key changes, there will be multiple scales.

I'm confused. Sometimes they DO show up in the Eventlist.

I doubt there is a workaround for this and it will probably never be fixed but.... I disassembled a MIDI file to see the controller messages: MFile 1 2 960 MTrk 0 Meta SeqName "Test" .... MTrk 0 Meta TrkName "Track 1" 0 PrCh ch=1 p=0 0 Par ch=1 c=10 v=4 0 Par ch=1 c=91 v=77 (This one) 64 On ch=1 n=60 v=127 608 On ch=1 n=60 v=0 ... You can see controller 91 (external effects, reverb in this case) is set to 77. Here is how it looks in Cakewalk: Note: The reverb dial is set to 77 but there is no controller in the event list. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Fair enough. Name a non-Microsoft app.

Name one.

I think it was called: WebView2 Runtime Which I think is a sneaky way Microsoft is trying to force their browser onto our machines by illegally taking advantage of their monopoly. The .NET framework already includes browser tools. In any event, put this in a batch file and run it as administrator: Be gone demon spawn!

Yes. But, if it is a plain MIDI file...it can never be saved as a track. So, adding something, unasked, that can't be saved....is not an...um...er....optimum design decision.

So, I went into my archives and installed a much older version of Cakewalk. It recognizes my soft-synth like every other MIDI program in Windows...unlike the newest Cakewalk. TTS-1 still kept getting inserted as a track so I unregistered it which fixed that problem. In an admin command shell: regsvr32 /u C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared DXi\TTS-1\TTS-1.dll Next, I'll spend hours trying get the Edge crapware off my system that Cakewalk decided to infest me with. Thanks for nothing! A pox on whomever did that. And, since I'm part gypsy, that person is going to need Calamine lotion soon!

To be more precise, that someone just wants to edit MIDI files.

Let's say, theoretically, someone was fed up with the recent changes to Cakewalk because it completely disabled their setup. What would be the best replacement?
