I don't see anything wrong with the way you have audio tracks containing vocals with fx in their fx bins. Like you say you can also make a bus or busses and route the vocals to the bus and put fx there. Either way will work, it might depend on what your goals are. If I want to align various things on different tracks, I use melodyne to do that, I have studio version 5. The subject of making vocals sound clean and professional is very broad starting with recording the vocals and then everything you do to them after that. Maybe you could explain what it is that you think is wrong with them, how are they not sounding clean and professional to you as is? Clean and professional are a little broad for commenting on how to improve so more details might help you get answers on here. I think it is common to use reverb, delay, compression, eq, chorus maybe as fx on vocals to improve how they sound to taste. It does take time to learn stuff so just keep at it.

Good expressive song, I like the contrast between the density of the choruses and the less dense more spacious verses. I didn't hear other versions. If you are singing all the parts, you have a good variety of how you sing.

Good song, well balanced mix, all the elements work well together. I like the guitar lead and the backing vocals panning. Only thing I think could be a slight bit better is the lead vocals are a little off a few times, if it was me I would melodyne them but otherwise nothing I would change. They are ok as is, but would be perfect if melodyned, you have a good voice!

Could be. I never had issues before either. Just glad it finally worked i found it hard to go back to platinum.. maybe corona caused it

I went through many attempts to download and got that corrupted message over and over. I just kept doing the download over and over and finally got one that worked. I didn’t do anything different to get the good one.

This is mentioned over in the ni forum : "while I'm here I'll just go on a small tangent and point out a UI error in Hybrid Keys 2.0, incase nobody else noticed it yet. When using the drop down menu in the FX panel, the effect below the one you click on is the one that will be applied." evil dragon replied to another issue that And will all sounds get proper NKS pages? Ha, looks like you found another issue that needs resolving. I am unsure how this happened, but I am on the case.

Adding Amplifiers, FX chains w/my own VST's

Ok i got curious and looked up what a rack is in mulab..... “A rack is a collection of synth and effect modules that process your audio and events and route them to an output” so my guess that the guitarstrat rack is a guitar synth followed by 2 fx in your pic is true so the advice here is to do manually what is pre setup for you in the rack midi makes no sound it is information. You need a synth to make it sound and experience it as audio so in the rack you get the strat instrument/synth which when triggered by midi input will put out audio and that audio can have fx added to it So its a 3 step thing midi instrument audio with audio fx applied to the audio seems you are trying to skip the instrument and do 2 steps midi audio fx. But midi is not sound the rack is one item but it contains instrument and fx bundled together so to your understanding the instrument is behind the scenes and you thought you had 2 steps midi audiofx but really had 3. You were not going from midi to audio fx there is an instrument between midi and audio fx or there could not be audio. You need an instrument for the midi to play to get audio so in cakewalk you have to manually go midi instrument then you have audio to put your fx on the replies above have details and in tutorials in this forum are good info for a kiddie as you say ha its a rich program but also can be used quite simply too after you get the several steps to achieve what you are trying to do- 21 replies

I posted there too just now. Clicking the waveform doesn’t help.

I did the updates and loaded komplete kontrol a dreams in cake current version and patches play in v 1 but if i start messing with a and b i have no sound anymore either. Tried with kontakt 6 in the track too same problem. Hybrid and earth seem ok. Post if you learn anything about this. My win 10 updates are a little behind. Thanks

If i had 2 midi notes I didn’t want to overlap sound at the same time i would shorten the midi notes in piano roll view. If i had 2 audio i would split off some of the notes in track view then apply a fade out to smooth its ending, or i would open the audio into melodyne and shorten/adjust the blobs (and can fade with version studio 5)

Adding Amplifiers, FX chains w/my own VST's
treesha replied to David Weddle's topic in Instruments & Effects
Honestly i dont know this program but it looks like midi tracks going into drum bass and strat racks. It looks like say in the strat rack there are 2 fx under the heading of strat. Im assuming in that rack is the strat instrument with 2 fx on it. I am guessing. So to do that in cakewalk you make a midi track with the midi you have then insert a soft synth (like tts or whatever) or instrument (like a guitar vst) and route the midi output to the instrument to make audio and then send that output to a bus you make in the console view then put the audio fx all you want on that bus. More steps for sure but cakewalk is a great program if you dig into it. Again im just guessing what a rack is!- 21 replies

Adding Amplifiers, FX chains w/my own VST's
treesha replied to David Weddle's topic in Instruments & Effects
I am unaware of any way to run midi into an audio fx and never used mulab but maybe somebody here has. I have only sent midi to an instrument and then can use an audio fx on that resulting audio material. Is your midi going to an instrument? I assumed you were working with audio when you said guitar then phase shifter amp etc. ? If you are working with like a midi guitar pattern it needs an audio instrument. Not sure what your working with.- 21 replies

Im not familiar with that window. I will look in a bit. Can you open the browser the track view on the right, in the fx section tab, and see if they are in there ? They can be dragged from there to a tracks fx bin- 21 replies

Adding Amplifiers, FX chains w/my own VST's
treesha replied to David Weddle's topic in Instruments & Effects
When you select vst and vst 3 in the left box do the plugins you installed show up in the list that appears in the box to the right of it? (Depending on what you installed) This is where i would check to see if my installation worked. Also in the browser. Im not familiar with the folder list on the far right. if you post what you see on the cakewalk site that you can’t find maybe someone can tell you how to get there I don’t think you have to buy anything to insert multiple fx, i do it all the time, can also be done in pro channel- 21 replies

Are they showing up in the cakewalk plugin manager utility? Or in the fx browser? Just to see if they were successfully installed- 21 replies

Where Are My Instruments & Effects
treesha replied to Raymond Coats's topic in Instruments & Effects
Are you using free cakewalk by bandlab version or a previous version you paid for? -
I always use save as and save the newest version only on my computer and the numerous ones i have saved as on an external drive. I like save as because it does keep everything in one place and sometimes i have opened a project to find audio missing dialogue box for some unknown reason so i have its duplicate. I also have at times needed to go back some versions backwards because over time i decide the first bass part was better after all. Then when its all said and done i delete the files off the drive and clean audio folder. Ive made some mistakes or changes of mind that make me glad i did save as quite a few times. I use the date for the name. Just how i have done it for a long time now.

Good song, important stuff, everything sounds good, enjoyed it. If I was mixing this, I would turn the vocals up a little bit, you have a nice deep voice and also a teeny bit brighter. The words are important so yeah, just a little more vocals but they are fine as they are for sure. I expect I have a quarantine song somewhere waiting to be made, I have one called Now Lie in It on my bandcamp from a little while back when lies seemed to be becoming so engrained.

Enjoyed it. Especially like when that deep low part comes in. It sounds great over here. Sounds balanced and clear. If I were going to change anything about it, I would add a few more instruments for the forefront higher riffs, like keep the same riff but use a different instrument to play it now and then or the same voice transposed one way or another, or drop it way back in volume and just have the reverb of it play, but its great as it is.

I like it, fun, kinda made me think of Steely Dan somehow. Everything sounds good over here clear and well balanced.

Well that makes me think ! Thanks for sharing

Thanks for listening and your comments. Interesting you connected with the underlying dissonance as you describe it. I wrote this after my father died, a time of many feelings, and when I performed it at a coffee shop playing acoustic with the backing tracks in the pa they had there, I said first that if you notice any dissonance, it is intentional ha. Both my guitar and bass need some work at the moment and had some offness to their sound, so I recorded them, then melodyne -> midi to delete some of the unwanted stuff, then used dpro 12 string preset for the acoustic and a synthmaster soft bass preset for the bass. I used Ozone on the acoustic for a light compression and some imaging and exciting and eq too. I am curious what it made you think about if you feel like sharing. Anyways, I appreciate your comments, treesha

If you have melodyne i have used that to lengthen notes
