    Come ON Bro, you didn't even TRY  freezing tracks did ya?? Too busy  "Purging samples in Kontakt", is that even a thing that ya actually need to do? ? I'm not a big fan of using NI synth tech, I've always found it to be glitchy, but I'm thinking maybe I might have caused some of the problems trying to make it do things it was incapable of doing. We are all or have been guilty of that, and so, all assumptions and opinions aside, I'm think'in if Kontakt doesn't purge is own samples they most likely don't need purging. 

    And I just noticed your signature describing the absolute WORSE computer configuration I've ever seen! ? I do believe you have more important things to tend to before worrying about freezing tracks & purging samples.

    Are these a string "Typos"? This may read like a real "Cup of Drool"? bragging rights dream machine to a "Gamer Junky" for stealing cars, killing monsters, or blowing stuff up (including melting down your computer), but as far as DAW's are concerned, it's a very expensive waste of money "CLUSTERTURD". ?

    SOO......... From your own description,  am I correct in assuming that you're OVERCLOCKING an already more than powerful and fast enough Intel i9 CPU from stable 3.60 g/Hz up to a ridiculously stupid UNSTABLE & POINTLESS SPEED of 4.85 g/Hz? WHY? And "Just Because You Can." is not a valid answer!

    And WHY are trying to use FOUR AUDIO INTERFACES ALL AT ONCE? I see 2 Thunderbolt interfaces and 2 PCIe interfaces??

    BTW, Windows actually doesn't actually fully support Thunderbolt devices which were specifically designed by Apple for APPLE MAC CORE AUDIO DRIVERs Thunderbolt devices was specifically designed for, but Thunderbolt v2 and v3 can be "adapted" into "some" but not "all" USB3.2-C ports, and AMD's "Display Ports" if your graphics card is PCIe 16x supports full duplex I/O streaming, you're good to go for 8 lanes of pristine video & 8 24-bit audio tracks at once. Very problematic Thunderbolt is thru USB 3.2-C, depending on what chipsets the manufacturer installed which motherboards.? I know this to be true because I tried it with my UA Apollo 8 Thunderbolt 2 into a USB 3.2-C on my Windows computer. It worked, but was problematic and didn't perform nearly as good or FAST as my Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 USB 2 Interface, and I'm not willing to give up 8 lanes of PCIe x16 bandwidth on my AMD FirePro W 7100 graphics card I desperately need for smooth and fast operation with Vegas Pro 18 video plugins, editing and rendering. But the Apollo 8 runs GREAT plugged into the Display Port on my 2012 IMac! ?? 2012 was the last year Apple made iMac's with Firewire ports, they didn't have Thunderbolt ports yet, but they had AMD graphics with a DisplayPort so that's how I even found the hack out in the Pro Tools user forum to port Thunderbolt devices on early Mac's thru DisplayPort, so all is well.

     HOWEVER!  CbB will only patch into and run off ONE Audio Interface Master Clock Source, and unless they are all synced together under the same "Clock Source" thru the same Buss the other 3 will just conflict with each other, wreak havoc in the Serial & USB-C 3.2 Busses, Windows Registry & Device Manager. Absolutely NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would recommend doing that!

    And for GOD'S & your COMPUTER'S SAKE STOP OVER CLOCKING! An i9 already has more speed and power then you'll ever need to run Cakewalk, and over clocking is a GAMER HACK, Cakewalk IS NOT A GAME, and the rules are different for CREATING music BY YOURSELF, than they are with PLAYING with YOURSELF. And yeah, pun intended.

     You don't actually die, hurt yourself or lose anything in a video game by crashing. But in a DAW project you can lose MANY hours, days, months, and even years of work and THAT can FAQ'in STING! ???

    SAY NO TO SPEED! And yeah, pun intended. ✌

    void all warranties and support from all software & hardware vendors and insurance. Are you using a liquid nitrogen cooling system so it doesn't overheat, explode, or throttle down to the speed of an old 1st gen Intel Core Duo? And has absolutely NO POSITIVE effect on the speed of your audio interfaces latency, digital audio converter accuracy and or stability of Windows OS and Cakewalk DAW or the quality of the music. And last but certainly NOT Least an Unstable COMPUTER CONFIGURATION!

    Ever hear the expression "SPEED KILLS!"? Well, it's actually a bit more than just an expression.

    And so the real questions here are; "How many audio tracks to you need to record at once & how fast you need to go to record them?"

  2. Hi, I'm trying to freeze a section of a soft synth track but it freezes from the beginning of the session. (which is long)

    Is it possible to freeze a section/region, or do you have to freeze the entire timeline?

    What happens if you disable the “video file playing”?

    Everything I close/disable, helps in some way. 

    Probably about 60 tracks in the project. I could have a session with tons of audio and plugs and it's okay (UAD DSP) - I imagine i could have a fair amount of midi tracks but mixed with audio/video/plugs, I think that's where it starts to get bogged down.

    Yes  - not using anywhere near my RAM, but seems to act like ceiling for some reason. Like in the old days of Win XP, you could have 16 GB of RAM but windows would only allow 4GB to be used at one time. I know modern windows can use all it's RAM but still strage.

    Just trying to figure out where the bottle neck might be. All the meters show reasonable load except "power" being very high when using plugins/midi and moderately high when only midi. It's the only thing I see in the red so to speak.

    happy to upgrade, just not sure what! :)

     

     

     

     

     

  4. Well, that's the thing, no, I'm getting dropouts while trying to record new midi.

    I don't think it's overheating, I'll check in the bios.

    I just have so much going on in the file. Large libraries loaded and running live, video file playing, plugin city (although disabled)

    It's a tv score/musical.

    *Basically, at a certain point, after adding more midi, it can't handle it. Task manager is just telling me of the problem. 

    I wondered if doubling the RAM and getting a bigger power supply would help.

  5. Hi, I have a session with a lot of midi tracks running some fairly large samples.

    Even with all plugins disabled and buffers set higher than I'd like, I'm getting freezes and stops when trying to record additional midi.

    In task manager,  Cakewalk shows CPU: 7.2%  Memory: 13,778.20  Power usage: VERY HIGH

    I have 64 GB RAM. (Is it too little?)

    How can i fix the VERY HIGH power usage? Bigger power supply? Or is there another factor causing that?

    Any help appreciated! Thanks

  6. Hello, I need to import a midi file into an existing session. The midi file has a tempo map.

    How can I insert it into an existing session with the tempo information?

    If I use "open midi file" it creates a new session. I need it to be imported.

    Is there a work-around or something?

    This should be a simple procedure.

  7. Hi, I have three separate string midi tracks open in piano roll. If I select all the tracks in the edit window, I'm able to drag the CC expression up/down from the piano roll.

    What I'd like to do is draw the curve manually and have it show up on all three tracks.

    When I try this, the curve only draws on one of the tracks.

    Is there a way to do it in one shot like this? Or do I have to do it to one track and then copy the CC curve over to the other tracks in the edit window?

    Yeah, it didn't do this in the past. I've been using Cakewalk for decades. An odd glitch. Oh well. 

  9. Any chance we could restore the functionality of the "enter" button to control the "EXPORT" or "OK" command like it used to, many moons ago?

    It would save people some clicking time. Especially when you use export a trillion times a day! :) Work flow is everything in a DAW.

    Not sure why that simple windows function would be removed in the new export audio window but it would be great to get back.

  10. Anyone ever get Melodyne drawing wierd black lines during playback and just having odd graphic glitches? ePbHgwb.gif

    I was, and found that it was this: I have my monitor displaying 150% scaling because I have a 4K monitor and everything appears way too small at 100% scale.

    Sometimes Cakewalk gets confused and doesn't adhere to this setting. You have to right click on the Cakewalk.exe icon (program icon) and select properties/compatibility/change settings for all users/change High DPI settings. In here you can select "system", 'application' or "system Advanced"

    *If "system advanced" is selected, you get the weird glitches in Melodyne. Just set it to one of the other two options: "system" or "application". Then apply changes. It will stop glitching.

  11. Hi, when applying the gain feature to multiple clips in Cakewalk, the result is corrupt clips unless they're bounced first. This wasn't an issue on older versions. New-ish bug.

    Could it get looked at for a future update pls? Thanks

    The newest version of Scaler 2.7 can capture the MIDI and then output to multiple output tracks/channels starting with the bottom note to Ch1 (etc) driving multiple instruments.

    In Cubase: select staff with multiple parts, click "explode parts" immediately creates separate tracks with each part isolated... I'll use that.

    Tired of the same workarounds in Cakewalk for two decades... faster to do it by hand than the Split notes CAL method. That's more for splitting drum parts where you need each note separate... They should just copy this Cubase function or create "Split parts to tracks CAL"

  14. Hi, I know of the other posts on this topic but none have any solutions, only work-arounds. 

    There is a popular function among other DAWs that allows you to take a midi track of chords and split or "explode" the "parts" on to individual midi tracks.

    Cal script "split notes to tracks" is not the same.

    The user plays let's say, a 4 part chord arrangement on one midi track. This function would split that track into 4 separate tracks by extracting the highest voiced line each time until the new tracks had all the individual parts. 

    This should be a feature in Cakewalks notation features. (The score editing is so ancient in Cakewalk, it really needs an overhaul!)  

    Is anyone capable of writing a CAL script for this? 

    Cubase has the most simple version "explode tracks" that I've found.

    If you're using a VSTi, then obviously everything is non-transposed so...

    So to get the notes right, you need to:
    -  Transpose the MIDI up 2 semitones,  so all Bb's look like C's in the PRV / Staff View.

    Then to get it note sounding at the right pitch:
    -  Use Key +/-  down 2 semitones.

     

    This was helpful BUT the full answer is this: Yes, you do have to raise the pitches to the transposition you want manually (Select the notes and transpose by semitones) in this case +2 semitones as it's a Bb instrument. 

    Then when you change the "key+" button in the opposite direction (-2 semitones) The notes will sound like the concert notation AND the key signatures will be changed to the new transposed key. (Such a backwards way! lol) Anyhow, that works. 

    I swear cakewalk used to do this in one step with only the key+ button! Probably back in Sonar 7 though! lol  (been using it for decades and feel old...) :)

    As long as it works though...
