Missing VST Effects Paramters

I've downloaded some Project tutorials that when loaded into CbyB give an error informing me which plug ins are missing

I presume that the parameters used on a given plug in must be stored in the project somewhere...

So say it was a compressor plug in is there a way of finding out what settings were used (Threshold, ratio, makeup-gain etc ) in the effect so that I could approximate them in a compressor that I do have ?

Ah well . . . . . . . Looks like I've got some mucking about with plug ins in my future
