That's easy

It was supposed to be the 90th Columbus  Day celebration but some guy named Greg cancelled it probably due to some 15 day wild party and since most couldn't remember what happened at the party those couple of days decided to start the day everyone showed up at work which was the 15th

While Ed (Ed 2?) should have come in first, he just didn't commit to his answer so, our big winner is Bayou Bill!

NOTHING happened on October 10th, 1582 (or on any day from October 5th thru the 14th in the year 1582), because those dates never existed!  As part of migrating from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, those dates were skipped to bring the dates back in line with the seasons since the Earth actually takes 365.2425 days to make a year.
