Alan Tubbs 60 Posted December 12, 2021 Still working up the new computer but I can’t find the function that saves songs to a new location other in the standard cakewalk file location. I want them to go to my 2nd . it has been too long since I’ve gotten a new main rig. thanks
scook 4,291 Posted December 12, 2021 There is a setting in Preferences but I prefer to use a directory junction. For example, 1. In Windows Explorer, move "C😕Cakewalk Projects" to D:\ 2. Open a command shell as administrator and type mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Projects" "D:\Cakewalk Projects"
Alan Tubbs 60 Posted December 12, 2021 Thanks scoop. I’ll look again in preferences. This takes me back to the old manual/dictionary conundrum- how do you look up something you don’t know how to spell? Just keep misspelling it until you get it right. lapasoa 111 Posted December 12, 2021 I recomend to save your files into an external drive. That's the safest way to have your files rescued.

Most certainly a good idea for back ups but the OP is wanting to save there projects as they work to a different drive. As Mr Cook has pointed out there is a field in Preferences folder locations you can easily change to your data drive. First thing I do after I set my Audio and midi up when I open a new install of Cakewalk.
Alan Tubbs 60 Posted December 12, 2021 I do of course have a portable data drive. That is how I transfer songs from my 10 year win 7 computer to the new one. And it has been 5 years or so since my last new computer installation, may she rest in pieces..
