jmasno5 29 Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) For fun. I needed to record something since it has been so long since I clicked the red button. Thanks for listening. http://jmasno5.com/index.php#rainlink Edited April 30, 2020 by jmasno5
Lynn Wilson 642 Posted April 30, 2020 Terrific version, John. It evokes the Beatles while being uniquely yours. I'm surprised more people don't experiment with backwards recordings, as easy as it is these days. Good to hear you again!
noynekker 374 Posted April 30, 2020 So cool, so fine . . . the vocals here are so well sung and recorded, I am most impressed by this cover, really captures the spirit of you, as well as those Beatles.
Douglas Kirby 785 Posted April 30, 2020 You did a good job on this cover - I really enjoyed the vocal harmonies. I especially liked the bass in this as well - as I do in the original. No crits on the mix - sounds quite nice to me.
Wookiee 1,733 Posted April 30, 2020 Always a tricky band to cover, but this works you did a reasonable job, thanks for sharing the mix sounds good here.
jmasno5 29 Posted April 30, 2020 Lynn, noynekker, Douglas, and Wookiee, Thanks for the positive comments! It was a fun project. I'm hoping it gets things rolling for me.
DeeringAmps 1,725 Posted May 1, 2020 One big "crit" here! Dude, you gotta get the finish off that Casino! I suggest some 80 grit... 22 hours ago, Wookiee said: Always a tricky band to cover Oh man! You pulled it off, thumbs to ya! "B" side of Paperback Writer; another great one, have always loved them both... tom
jmasno5 29 Posted May 1, 2020 Thanks DeeringAmps! Haha on Casino. Never. Funny thing about my guitar is I bought it on eBay. It is an Epiphone Elitist model. They guy I bought it from was in a Beatles tribute band called "The Cast." He played George Harrison. However, it didn't come with a Bigsby like George had. So the guitar has a lot of Beatles' music in it
PhonoBrainer 1,816 Posted May 3, 2020 I like this equal to the original . . . love your own stamp on it. Super clear mix and killer smooth vocals. I love a band called The Samples and this is in that same sweet spot. I would only offer the crit that you really got your money's worth out of that one tom fill Really cool job, sir! I look forward to your next Red Button adventure. cheers, -Tom

I know exactly what you are talking about. I found the best cover of the drum part on YouTube. You can't even hear the song. The guy is reading a chart and you have to sing along to figure where he is, but; that guy nail nailed the part. I recorded the drums using my V-Drums kit. I overdubbed all of the fills. It was then I realized Ringo relied on a certain fill combination a lot in the song.
jmasno5 29 Posted May 9, 2020 Thank you Max and Freddy! The left guitar is a real Epiphone Casino tuned down a whole step. The right guitar is a Line-6 JTV 59 emulating an Epiphone Casino. The tuning is a little crazy. D-B-G-G-D-very low G that you can hear ring out at the end. The Line-6 allows for this tuning virtually via emulation. You would need a very thick string to tune the 6th string to a G below an open E.
steve@baselines.com 273 Posted May 11, 2020 Hey it sounds great - always loved that song and you did it justice.
SteveC 179 Posted June 5, 2020 Just had a listen - great job! Really captured the vibe without sounding exactly like the original. Vocals were a standout for me. 👍
michaelhanson 68 Posted June 8, 2020 As one of the world biggest Beatles fans, this is awesome and very well done! Way to also make it your own. Excellent harmonies.
Mahavishnu 10 Posted June 10, 2020 Very nice. I enjoyed that. I agree with DeeringAmps: just a bit more more dirt/grit. Maybe that good old-fashioned Beatles phaser in parts but I'm being picky. Good job all round, well done and more please.
jmasno5 29 Posted June 12, 2020 Thank you Michael and Mahavishnu! I thought I was the world's biggest Beatles fan. 😁 I'm filled with useless Beatles knowledge and currently reading "Tune In" with 1200 pages of more knowledge.
