White Dots on Audio Tracks

Question

How I never noticed this before, I'm not sure.  Audio tracks display a small white dot in the center of each measure.  They continue to show until the final clip on their track.  I checked documentation with no results.  What is the purpose of these dots?  (I'm using SONAR Platinum, but I would guess CbB shows the same thing).

Thanks for any insight.

This usually means there's data further along on that track.

Fast forward through your song, and you'll probably find it.

AFAIK, there is only one direct reference to the Clips Pane Ellipses in the documentation. They are displayed in the empty spaces to the left of clips in a project. Their absence indicates there are no clips to the right in the track. Also a handy indicator that audio loops are broadcast waves instead of regular wave files when imported at their timestamp.
