Audio to midi conversion.

Question

I hope I am not asking a stupid question here.

I know that Audio can be converted into Midi and I know how to do it, but can Midi be converted into Audio????????

IF YES, I would greatly appreciate to know how this can be done.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Regards

Gerry

Yes, software (IOW synth plug-ins) and hardware synths read MIDI data and generate audio from it.

Opening a GM MIDI file in CbB will automatically add TTS-1 and make the appropriate instrument assignments as long as there are no MIDI output assignments in preferences. Of course, one can manually make the assignments or use other synths but the automatic TTS-1 feature is the easiest way to get started.

To convert MIDI to audio you need to select the MIDI portion *AND* it's corresponding audio track where the synth outputs are, and either do 'export audio' in file menu, or bounce to tracks (from track view menu).

The whole question is a bit confusing to me because MIDI-to-audio is the "normal" thing to do,  VST instruments, soft synths and such use that.  It is what MIDI was originally designed for, so to say. Audio-to-MIDI is a much more complicated task, and is often impossible to do with satisfying results, and I believe most music makers/producers never need that (except for drum replacement, maybe). Actually, I originally thought there's a mistake in the OP.
