Best FREE Kontakt Libraries - A Curated List of More Than 100 Reviewed and Recommended Free Sample Instruments for the Full Version of Kontakt and Kontakt Player (Updated June 2024) I am not in agreement the new policies and practices of BandLab, am moving away from their software. Consequently. I will not be participating in this forum moving forward and have removed this content from the Cakewalk Forum and will be providing it on my own site (launching mid August 2024; it's my user name with a dot com at the end) where I can regularly update it. You can PM me for information on the new location of this list.

I've seen reviews of The Orchestra Elements (Sonuscore) and some recent reviews of Berlin Free Orchestra (Orchestral Tools). Both are orchestral libraries with the same purpose—providing a virtual orchestra for all kinds of compositions. I've used both, though not extensively or in-depth. I highlight both for their quality and sound. The Orchestra Elements sounds very clean and cinematic, which I like, but I feel it can sometimes sound a bit generic. Berlin Free Orchestra, on the other hand, also appeals to me because its sound is more natural, and the volume depends on the instrument’s position in a real orchestra. This makes it realistic but can also make it sound quieter. Its sound is less cinematic than The Orchestra Elements, meaning that achieving a cinematic feel depends more on your orchestration and control. However, I feel this library can be used in genres beyond film scoring due to the natural sound of its instruments. This is just my personal opinion. But if we compare both in terms of quality, flexibility across different genres, available techniques and articulations, sound, and realism, which would be the "winner"?

Puzzlement. I have created a drum instrument with Ross Garfield samples (MyDrumKit001). All good. I load the instrument in an instance of Kontakt 7 and it plays fine clicking the keys on the Kontakt 7 UI. I then opened a Cakewalk project and created a drum map for (MyDrumKit001) for use in that project. I then insert an instrument in the project checking MIDI Source, First Synth Audio Output, and Synth Property Page. The Kontakt Synth Property Page opens and I load (MyDrumKit001). Again, the drums play within the Kontakt7 UI. The Synth Audio output track loads as "Kontakt 7 1 KT st.1" and the input is listed as "Kontakt 7 1 st. 1 : 1+2 S", and the output is listed as "Master". When I click on a key in the Kontakt 7 UI, it shows up on the meter of the Audio Output track. Seems all good. The MIDI Source track loads as "Kontakt 7 1", the input is listed as "Omni", the Output is listed as "7-Kontakt 7 1", and the channel is listed as "None". Seems ready to select the drum map out port, which shows up in the drop-down as 9-DM2-MyDrumKit001* (not sure what the asterisk means). Here's where things get weird. As soon as I select the drum map, the map shows up in the Piano Roll view, BUT... no sound is generated in Cakewalk when clicking in the drum map in Piano Roll. Meter activity is now showing on the MIDI Source track meter, but NOT the Synth Audio Output track meter. I can still hear the drums by clicking keys on the Kontakt instrument UI, but I can't see or hear any audio signal from the Synth Audio Output track even if I add drum events in the drum map in Piano Roll view and hit "Play". When I re-open the Drum Map Manager, the note out ports are still listed as "7-Kontakt 7 1". in Ports and Channels, the Port/Channel is listed as "7-7-Kontakt 7 1 / 10 | Bank: None | Patch: None. I know I'm missing something simple. I just can't figure it out. I'm hoping someone here can find my error Cheers! Al G

Hi folks I think I kind of know the answer to this one but I'm looking for advice on any alternatives. I've a single instance of Kontakt 6 with eight instrument synths loaded (4 different guitars synths, 4 orchestra instruments) and I suspect Cbb sees these as a single synth even though there are 8 separate outputs track pairs (8 midi and 8 related audio) for the loaded synths. I am trying to freeze each track as I work through the mix but as soon as I select any midi track and 'freeze synth' (the only freeze option I can see when I hover over the snowflake) all 8 tracks are frozen and the individual midi tracks hidden (midi hiding is as expected). Is there some setting I am missing in Cbb or Kontakt that would allow me to freeze a track at a time rather than all at once? Thanks GBT

UPDATE - Resolved, by correcting the Output Port data - from Microsoft Wavetable, to the proper instance of Kontakt, then saving the corrected drum map. I discovered that CbB Drum Map Manager had changed all Output Port assignments from the specified Kontakt instance, to the Microsoft Wavetable. I have zero ideas why, at the moment. I updated those assignments back to the Kontakt instance, and resaved the drum map, and all is well. I will try to dig into this some more, and open a support ticket, when time permits. Bob Bone Howdy - I have been a user of NI Komplete, and Kontakt, for many many years, and am suddenly experiencing a perplexing issue, with a 1 second lag in hearing audio from triggering notes on any of my MIDI controllers, using the Studio Drummer library, in a separate Kontakt instance, where I have a single one of the Studio Drummer factory instruments loaded into the Kontakt instance. 1) This project has 3 Kontakt instances, with one instance for a New York Grand Piano instrument, the 2nd instance having a Kontakt Factory Library string ensemble instrument, and the 3rd Kontakt instance having a single Studio Drummer Library instrument loaded into this Kontakt instance. 2) I have no detectable lag when using my MIDI controllers to trigger notes for either the 1st or 2nd Kontakt instances, and if I use the 3rd Kontakt instance's virtual keyboard to trigger any of the Studio Drummer kit pieces, using my mouse, there is also no detectable lag. It is only this 3rd Kontakt instance, with the Studio Drummer instrument, that I get a lag of around 1 second, when I use either of my two MIDI controllers to trigger drum kit pieces for the 3rd Kontakt instance. This makes ZERO sense, as to what could be causing this issue. 3) My computer specs are: Dell Alienware 17 R5 laptop 16GB of memory Two 2TB M.2 NVME hard drives, and a 3rd hard drive that is a 2TB solid-state drive. Intel i7 CPU 4) My ASIO Buffer Size is set to 128 samples, for my audio interface, which happens to be my Behringer XR-18 digital mixer, using a USB connection to the laptop. 5) The Studio Drummer Library resides on one of the NVME hard drives, which is where all of my sample libraries are stored. This NVME drive has no other files/folders on it, other than sample libraries from Native Instruments Komplete 12 Ultimate. 6) I am using a drum map for this Studio Drummer instrument, in a Track Template I have used for around 4 years now, with no prior issues. The instrument is routing each kit piece to its own audio track(s), with most of the tracks being mono, and the snare (stereo - top mono and bottom mono), and prior to yesterday, everything has worked with no issues, including no problems with lag. I have done some searching, using Google and in this forum, for anyone else having this kind of issue, with no seccess in finding this issue reported anywhere. I am all ears for any suggestions as to what I can do to resolve this issue. I will be continuing to dig into it, to try to figure it out, and if I come up with anything to fix this, I will update this thread, to avoid anyone needlessly investing time into helping on a problem that is resolved. In about 2 cups of coffee, I will try running the stand-alone version of Kontakt, outside of CbB, to see if the issue exists within Kontakt itself. I will also try starting a new CbB project, with only one Kontakt instance, with the Studio Drummer instrument loaded, starting with only 1 stereo audio track, and of course a MIDI track, so as not to use a drum map, and to be as plain a project as possible, so as to just test triggering notes from my MIDI controllers. If that is successful in resolving the lag, I will then try starting a new project with only the tracks and single Kontakt instance of the Studio Drummer instrument - using the Project Template I had built with the drum map and the separate audio outputs and multiple audio tracks - but nothing else in the project, and again test triggering notes from my MIDI controllers. I will also test the above using a VST3 Kontakt instance, and again with a VST2 instance, in case that has anything to do with the issues. A very sad Bob Bone - who is trying to record a brand new song.

I updated Kontakt 5 to the lastest 5.8.1 thru Native Access. The standalone EXE file updated fine. The plugin DLL files did not update at all except for the AAX files in the Avid folder. How do I get NI to update the DLL's?

We are a new Dutch developer of virtual instruments for the Native Instruments platform. And we are very proud of our first release "The Oeser", which is a 150 year old Viennese baby grand piano with a very rich and intimate tone. This piano was recorded @ the Key studios in the most pure way, with world class microphones and preamps. It is not an overproduced, polished piano, but just a very good piano with more character than Elton John. A true singer/songwriter piano, which will spark creativity by the unique sound and recording styles. What you get We have recorded the piano in 4 ways: Pure, Felted, Muted and Picked. Where the first 2 are fairly obvious, the Muted was accomplished by hand muting the strings which gave it a plucky sound and the Picked was done by playing the strings with a guitar pick which made the piano sound like a harpsichord. This resulted in a gigantic NKS library of 30GB and is also compatible with the free Kontakt Player. The 8 knobs of our simplified interface corresponds with the 8 knob layout of Native Instruments' Komplete Kontrol midi keyboards. Key features Full length samples (up to 1:45) Real time sustain cross-over Create your own balans with 3 microphone positions Adjustable playability Add pedal and mechanical noises to taste True sympathetic resonance Not normalized or compressed, to match the real experience CPU friendly while using ridiculous amounts of voices Learn more Check our website for more information and previews, or watch the introduction and walkthrough on our YouTube page. Also, Simeon Amburgey of PraiseTracks created an awesome review on YouTube.
