i used to have a 5.1 system (around 2000), but of course only one person can occupy the sweet spot.. i got it because of music being done in 5.1, altho some films were also enhanced (apocalypse now stm), and if you have a 5.1 i can highly recommend:

    flaming lips - soft bulletin

super furry animals - -rings around the world

    cornelius - point

    disappointed by :

    pink floyd - dsotm

    any other 5.1 recommendations?

Back in the day, DSOTM was available in quadraphonic. A precursor to 5.1. I don’t know if you can even find quad copies anymore or the equipment necessary for the playback. At one point my dad had a quad system. I remember he had Isao Tomita’s version of Holst, The Planets in quad. Again a sweet spot was always the issue.

And don't mentioj the trend (OK, it goes back a couple of decades now) to film everything so dark, you can't see what's going on.  So "we" pay to see nothing and hear nothing, right? 🙂

Actually, today with most camera systems (Red, Black Magic, etc.) the trend is to record video flat. Meaning the video is produced at the camera with low contrast, high detail. Colorists then add color, depth, highlighting and darkening in post. So the blame rests firmly on the film post crew.

  3. So… I went out to “Old Town Spring” here in Texas. What do I find? Goodwood’s British Market where you can find everything from bangers to Victoria Egg table ware. And as I’m wandering the store I happen upon….. of all things…. The door to a police box. A blue police box! “Wonderful!” I think to myself! Photo op!

Then I’m promptly distracted trying to find a good box of Cadbury for me daughter who’s visiting from California.

I get home and think to meself, “oh bloody hell!” I missed the opportunity for a picture of me TARDIS.  So I guess I’ll be venturing back in the next few days to do just that.
     😁

This is one reason I am kind of holding off buying an upgrade. Waiting to see what will happen to old licensing. I also haven't seen much that says the new Cubase will work any faster on my system. Quite frankly, I don't need any more features. What I have already has more than I ever use.

I recently looked at FL Studio again. My kid uses it and I bought him a copy (which of course is mine as he has no money of his own, he's only 14) ,so its on my system as well. We tinkered around with some stuff last week. He knows it better than me.. and was showing me some stuff with audio tracks. He makes EDM and DnB so it's totally different music that I work on. but I was trying out the different 3rd party plugins in it... Softube works better and doesn't crash as much as in Cubase with ASIO guard on. It's also really weird, as I could swear, the sound on the export sounds totally different than Cubase. It's as if the DAW has a different favor to the exported 24/48 wave file.

But…. Would Strummy go back to FL Studio?

I also have a Native Instruments Maschine Mikro MK3 that I use for drums with Battery 4, and all of Scarbee Drums. Also,  I can play instruments with the pads in Kontakt, I love this little unit.

I’m thinking about this little unit since I have the S61 MkII. The Maschine MkIII just seems a bit if overkill.
