Cost/disk space aside, the deciding factor is probably what sound you're after: Insolidus is a smaller choir with a softer emotional sound; Lacrimosa is a larger choir, probably more suited to massively epic dramatic scores.

Thanks yes I think Lacrimosa is what I am looking for.

I tend to think first about hard drive (actually SSD) space as any library is going to have to earn it's keep especially if it's taking up loads of space.

I'm probably being a little harsh ! - but definitely don't factor it in if you have any alternatives - the reality is it does sound ok (mostly)

I think Insolidus is the only one I'm interested in now - plus intimate studio strings possibly.  All depends on the price ;)

I'm also looking at Insolidus vs Lacrimosa, the latter being approximately half the size of the former (compressed 39.98Gb vs .17.8Gb).
I will be studying the videos for both to try and work out which is the better fit for me.

Hitfilm can be fussy about what graphics card you use with it, it wouldn't work at all with my old intel internal graphics. It does however work very well with the right card and utilizes the card a lot. You might want to check your card meets the specs on their site. I don't have any problems with my 6gb Nvidia 1060 GTX.

I'm on Windows 10 and have the same graphics card as you and my install of HFPro, IgnitePro and ActionPro was also without issue.

One thing I did notice, I wasn't able to close Action Pro, the little cross on top right wasn't there. That's an animation package that also comes with the bundle, don't think I will use it though.

I noticed the same thing but found that if you hit Alt & Enter it brings up the usual close button (X) at the top right hand side of the window.

so the new deal is.....(drum roll)

1990 Studio Grand and Prepared Piano Bundle for $98

    https://8dio.com/instrument/1990-studio-grand-and-prepared-piano-bundle-for-kontakt-vst-au-aax/

currently the text on the home page says "vintage keyboard bundle free w/ spend of $148 or more" - but has a picture of Ostinato ?

IF it is't the vintage keyboard bundle then I'll just give my 2 word review of that .... "don't bother"......here's my slightly longer round up

If  you have any other virtual versions of the keyboards in the bundle then you will never use the ones in this pack.

    • They are massive sample sets, 80gig in total
    • Take approx 7.5 hours to load, even off SSD (on the plus side you  have time to nip out for coffee whilst waiting)
    • Have limited functionality - they give you reverb but that's basically it
    • Clumsy GUI
    • High CPU usage - I get clicks and pops running at 32 samples on a very high end rig
    • Suspect velocity switching - the Rhodes is particularly bad IMO, the transition from mellow to 'bark'
    • Remarkably, they provide less presets than the original keyboard - probably the developers got bored of them too ?

    A waste of 80gig of SSD - glad I didn't pay $298 (gasp!)

ALSO - this needs the full version of Kontakt to run, so you probably already have better options on your hard drive, if you have Komplete then you definitely do. Basically there are a thousand better options, which you probably already own in fact just buy VC7.

If this is today's freebie then don't factor it in as a 'deal maker'

(disclaimer - this is just my opinion and YMMV - I'm posting this as a public service :)  - I have several 8Dio products so nothing against them as a company, in fact looking to buy more)

Thanks simon. I have updated the first post in case anyone looks there.

The third banner on the 8DIO site page still says that Ostinato Strings is the free gift as per yesterday so I'm guessing it's a typo/error re the Vintage Keyboard Bundle which was the free gift up until Friday.

Thanks for the mini review of the Vintage Keys Bundle . I am glad I avoided it now!

If you do a levels adjustment on this page

    https://8dio.com/2019/12/02/8dios-holiday-sonic-adventure/

You get some more differences.  Namely:

    Insolidus
    66 Trombones
    Majestica
    Hybrid Tools NEO
    Lacrimosa
    1990 Studio Grand Piano
    CAGE Brass Edition
The New Acoustic Grand Ensembles Bundle
    All CAGE Bundle
    Symphonic Shadows
    All Case Bundle

Those are already in my updated list on page 1 based on the current banner. They were there before anyway but in a different order.

That sonic adventure page has a date of 2nd December and doesn't have a day number associated with each image. The only one I'm missing (tomorrow's) is not included. The 1990 Studio Piano is one that has been removed on the banner page.  The banner page was updated last night.

Which one is correct? Anyone's guess and the banner page is likely to be updated again tonight.

I think someone at 8DIO is looking here and having a laugh at my expense ? I would if I were them ;)

where are you looking for this - I can only see the main page  and they a blacked out on that ?

Yes you have to do a levels adjustment in Photoshop on the banner.

I have removed the image in case it is copyrighted.

  7. I have now updated the first post as 8DIO have switched a lot of stuff around. ?

I have also added an "updated date".

The only one I cannot clearly identify is tomorrow's piano bundle (I can see the words Studio, Piano Bundle), unless it's a custom bundle.  Anyone got any ideas

Note: there are some big hitters moved to this week e.g. Insolidus on Monday, 66 Trombones on Tuesday and Majestica on Wednesday (unless it changes again!)

Spoke too soon: it looks like they mixed things up. It could change again, but it looks like tomorrows item is Century Ostinato Strings

    Ah well not to worry.

Wishing on a Falling Star sounded epic by the way. Great job!

Presonus have announced that they are making some of their previously Studio One-only
premium plugins like the new Ampire from Studio One 4.6 and the Fat channel plugins available
    as VST, AU and AAX.

    Thanks Larry.

Nice also that you can now access the shop from within Studio One Pro 4.6...

I pulled the trigger on this too - downloading it as we speak.

I'm now a V8P member whatever that means ......access to some very overpriced libraries I think

I still want to pick up  Insolidus when that' s on offer....all depends what the freebie is though

Insolidus does look very nice. I was hoping All Claire would be even cheaper and I really don't need 78Gb of Vintage Keys.
Shame they don't give you a few options for the freebie.

Also, 8DIO don't allow resale/transfer of their licenses so I couldn't even sell the keys on.

I did the same but could have gone to bed at 10:10 - exit poll nearly 100% correct

Yes I should have known as the exit poll performance has been remarkably accurate in recent times.

  12. Had an email from AAS and checked my account... they are now offering  "Strum GS-2 complete my collection" for the only two I don't have Take 3 and Funky Cat for $19. That's $9.50 each! Think I'll bite and get something else with the freebie.

That all looks pretty cool. What if you just want to make some cool music videos for YouTube and maybe some weird vintage movies? I guess some of you are essentially saying this is some superfluous stuff despite the great deal when compared to even the free version of DaVinci Resolve. I've intentionally let some good deals go by. Trying hard not to collect and only buy what I'll actually use. I'm actually just getting into video editing.

You could use HitFilm or Resolve to make YouTube music video content. Superfluous content aside, HitFilm Pro looks like a pretty good video editor but I will reserve full judgement until I have properly compared it to DaVinci Resolve.

There's 19 days left on the Humble Bundle deal so why not try out the demo of HitFilm Pro and the free version of DaVinci Resolve and see if either one is what you  are looking for before committing to the HB deal?

They updated all the synths.  It took me an hour to install them since it runs the manual installer for each and every one of the zillion synths included in collection.  That was so much wasted time and effort.

Don't have Pigments though, so this is kind of interesting.  Do I need another synth?  Or more importantly do I need this synth?

Sorry forgot to mention V Coll update. I also wish they would make V Coll 6 a single installer. Maybe if we email them about it they might make it happen.
To be honest I got Pigments 1 on a whim on intro pricing and haven't used it much but the addition of granular functionality might persuade me.

  15. Working now and there's also an update to Arturia Software Centre and Analog Lab 4.

Don't know if it made any difference but I vpn'd in via France where they are located.

Free to existing to Pigment Owners!

Good news! Thanks TS and Arturia ??

Their site is so slow at the moment I cannot even sync my licenses. Will try again later.
