There was indeed an issue with using Melodyne in an effects rack rather than a region effect. I've fixed that issue now.
@Laurence Levin are you also using Melodyne as an effect this way? I'm curious why anyone chooses to use melodyne as an effect when ARA is the proper way to do it.

Noel, I have been using Melodyne in the effects rack. I'm unaware of what a region effect is. I will Google this, but if you know of any link with an explanation or tutorial of this, I'd appreciate it!

Reverting to the earlier version of Cakewalk fixed my problem, and I'll upgrade to the Beta version again soon.

  2. I installed the beta update. Then when I opened my projects, all of the files with Melodyne sounded like Darth Vader until I turned off Melodyne. Is it the Cakewalk beta update or is there a problem with Melodyne. I shall experiment.

I uninstalled Cakewalk, and now I'm not able to reinstall through downloading the regular version from Bandlab Assistant. It says downloading 0/0 for a long time, and then it just shows nothing with an X to close. I had just updated the Bandlab installer. What should I do?

  3. Ok, so I added a stereo bus. Then I made it the default bus. Still, the existing tracks don't feed into this new bus, nothing appears on the meter, and nothing happens when I change the volume of the new bus. What do I need to do to get my music to go into the new bus?

Edit, oh I didn't read this part:

"To bulk change all existing audio tracks to route to the new master bus, select them, hold down the CTRL key and select the new master bus from one of the track outputs; repeat for the buses"

At 14 bits, Pitch Bend has a total value of 16384 so range is -8192 to 0 to +8191.

By most default settings this bends up/down 2 whole notes making -4151/+4150 a 1 note bend and 2075 a 1/2 note, etc.

However, the amount of bend depends on your keyboard/Synth settings. Dimension Pro softsynth allows up to 24 notes (2 octaves).

Using a Track View Automation envelope you can right-click a node and manually change it's value.

I find drawing Track View Pitch automation easier than CC's in PRV, but PRV is where I work most of the time.

Would be nice to have automation envelope drawing option in PRV.

Thanks! One advantage of a track view envelope in this case is that I can adjust the shape of the  pitch wheel bend - linear, fast, slow, add nodes. It's much easier to shape. Thanks for your detailed explanation!!

Seems instead of the pitch bend you should simply transpose the part by  +1 - N opens transpose dialogue.

It's common to modulate in the middle of a song or for the last chorus.

I would do this in Track view so I can highlight the timeline of the section for all the midi tracks minus the drums.

If you want a slide into the key change then only draw it in the measure where this happens.

Yes, I'm trying to slide a key up (+1) over a half measure. It's an ambient mix, and I want it to sound trippy.

    Everything is sounding good now.

There is but not in the PRV.

In the PRV CC data are entered as a series of discrete values. Their resolution is dependent on the snap setting.

Controllers may be drawn like any other automation in the track view.  CC automation is rendered into MIDI data during playback.

The tempo track works just like any other automation in the track view.

OK, I see how to create the envelope in track view: You add an Automation Lane, select MIDI, and then select Wheel. I wish there was a way to select how many increments you want the wheel to go up or down. For my setup, it's at a default of one whole note.

You could also just check your pitch bend wheel on your Keyboard itself. I had this issue with Alesis 49. It was so frustrating, so i invested in a new keyboard. Might be unrelated to your problem, but every little detail helps.

    - Yamaha PSR-SX900. I'm not upgrading until Yamaha comes out with a new model.

    I have a $2000 keyboard which I play professionally

    1. Once you draw a controller, it will, as you say, make a line. You can now grab the line anywhere with the mouse* and drag it up or down to the desired level.

*You will see the mouse cursor change to a vertical line with up & down arrows.

If a precise value is needed, you can open Event List and enter/change it manually.

***It would be nice to double or right-click CC nodes to change values like we do for automation nodes.***

    2. I use Graillon Pitch Shifter plugin in the FX bin where I can draw automation envelope for pitching audio.

Thanks for being so helpful. I will check out Grilling.

I wish there was a manual way to make a STRAIGHT diagonal up or down line manually with the mouse when drawing a controller and when changing tempos.

What are these wheel values called? It's so strange that -107 is no change in shift, and 8091 is the maximum value. Such arbitrary numbers. Am I correct that if 8091 is a pitch shift from C to D (whole step) that approximately half (4095) would be a shift from C to D# (half step)?

  8. OK, I figured this out for MIDI - I think. It's very weird, but in Insert>Controller>Wheel, you don't put in the MIDI value - 0-127. You put in values according to the values in Piano Roll View. Zero pitch change is strangely -107 and a full notes pitch change, let's say from C to D is the highest number 8091. So to have an incremental bend up from C to D, you would put the time intervals, and then you would put -107 and 8091. For a bend from C to C#, you would put -107 and half of 8091 4095 (I think). It sounds right. Then you have to insert an wheel event of -107 to go back to original pitch.

So complicated. But after I do this, I see straight horizontal lines going diagonally upward in track view going from the middle to 3/4 of the way up for my wished for pitch change of a half step (C to C# for example).

  9. I have a song that modulates up from Bb to B, and I wanted for all of the melodic instruments to bend up during a half a bar. I can see how in MIDI Piano Roll View to draw the pitch bend. I have to draw from around 63 up to 127, and then the next bar, I have to draw a straight line at about 63 again so that the voice goes back to original unbent pitch. It's very difficult to draw a straight line. I tried to insert a command through Insert Controller > Wheel. I choose the channel of the desired voice, and I go from 63 to 127. Nothing happens.

Also, is there a way to pitch bend audio to sweep up like a pitch bend wheel? Thanks.

I have a Korg 05/rw sound module which is MIDI only.  This would be exactly like using one of your keyboards, including the fact that it's also very old!  I conected the Audio outputs of the Korg to input 3/4 of my Scarlett 6i6. I connected the MIDI output of the 6i6 to the MIDI input of the Korg. I set it in GM mode.

Opened Cakewalk and Imported a  GM MIDI file.  I checked the Focusrite MIDI output was selected in Preferences.  All the instruments were also pointed at my Korg Sound module  via the Focusrite MIDI port as thier outputs.   This is the default as there is no instrument loaded.

The sound from the Korg comes out of my Monitors.

Here is a screen shot of my control panel. I have not touched it or made changes from the default. You might want to try "reseting to Factory Defaults. It's gotten me out of trouble lots! Our interfaces are identical more or less,  mine just has a few more features like SPDIF.

Also check under the HELP tab and make sure you have the latest driver and firmware. I would think it's exactly the same as mine.

It seems like you're directly monitoring a MIDI playing back from your DAW, sent to your KORG and then output from your KORG into your Scarlett interface.

I can do this as well. What I'm not able to do is do this while I also monitor a VST - now this is a Focusrite issue, not a Cakewalk by Bandlab issue.

My Bandlab issue is while 1) listening to this MIDI through an Audio Channel using input echo and 2) playing a VST on another keyboard, I'm getting hung notes on the VST.

You just used the word sound card? By this do you mean your 4i2 interface or your computer sound card?
Your monitors should be connected to the output of the Scarlett. I can see you would have issues if you are using your on board audio at the same time as your interface.
Your Yamaha’s audio  would be connected to the 3/4 inputs of the Scarlett. You would hear the audio via the direct monitoring system.

Yes, I'm only using the Focusrite 4i4 3rd generation. I can't find a way to monitor (at least through headphones) analog audio inputs 3 and 4 and my VST being ouput to channels 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. I've tried all kinds of combinations in the Focusrite control, and I can only monitor each separately. I made a query at the Focusrite Forum.

Anyway, this is the reason that I created an audio channel in my DAW for inputs 3 and 4 and used input echo to hear the keyboard MIDI and my VST at the same time.

I will get MIDI OX and try to learn how to use it. Sorry if I'm straying from a Cakewalk issue into a Focusrite issue!!

Not sure why you would need an audio track in Cakewalk to hear the Yamaha audio output. It should be heard directly though your monitoring system which I assume you have connected to your audio interface.
You are using ASIO driver mode?
Here’s two of my tutorials that might help

Thanks, I'll review these videos and follow up. Yes, I'm using the latest Focusrite Asio drivers in Cakewalk.

For some reason, I can't hear the MIDI playback through my monitors unless I create an audio track and select input echo. I'll try to figure out how to listen directly through the audio interface.

Either way, I'll eliminate the audio track monitoring the MIDI and try to play the VST with my Roland digital grand while listening to the MIDI through the soundcard or the Yamaha keyboard's internal speakers.

    I'll report back. Thanks again.

Is midi going through a midi interface or a USB connection? Any further details would help: make, model, hub?

The Yamaha arranger keyboard that's playing back the MIDI tracks without issue is connected to the computer via USB. Yamaha has dedicated USB drivers that I installed.

The Roland digital grand that I'm not able to play or record without hung notes has been connected to the computer via USB, but I just tried connecting it via a MIDI cable to the MIDI input of my Scarlett 4i4 2nd generation (latest driver's).

As stated I can play this VST in a multi track Cakewalk audio project, but when there are two keyboards involved, I can't play this VST.

I can use the Yamaha as a MIDI playback device in Cakewalk and use the Roland keyboard as a MIDI controller to play additional voices in the Yamaha keyboard, but when I try to play my two favorite piano VSTs along with the midi's, I have problems. 😢

  14. Thanks John for your quick reply seeking clarification.

The MIDI plays seamlessly on the Yamaha. The MIDI tracks are sent to the Yamaha. I'm going from the audio out of the Yamaha into my Soundcard's audio inputs and monitoring this audio from an audio track created in Cakewalk.

The notes that hang are on the VST which I'm trying to play using my Roland digital grand as a MIDI controller.

Does this help? Please let me know if you could use additional info like screenshots.

  15. Hi! Windows 10. Pretty powerful PC with an i5 processor and 12GB RAM.

So, I have two keyboards - an arranger keyboard (Yamaha SX900) and a digital grand piano (Roland FP90).

All I have on Cakewalk by Bandlab is a three track MIDI with the output to the arranger keyboard. Then I go to record Pianoteq  - a very nice VST using my Roland digital grand as a MIDI controller. I get tons of hung notes.

So I have a problem in Cakewalk playing or recording the VST with my Roland digital piano as the MIDI controller while a MIDI track is output to my Yamaha arranger keyboard

I don't have a problem playing this virtual instrument with my digital piano being a MIDI controller while utilizing the VST's standalone player

I don't have a problem playing or recording this VST in Cakewalk by Bandlab in a 16 track audio project as long as there's no MIDI going to another instrument.

The problem seems to be isolated to playing the VST with MIDI instrument 1 as an input while a MIDI track is output to MIDI instrument 2.

Both keyboards are the latest model with the latest drivers. I'm using a latest generation Focusrite Scarlett 4i2.

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

  16. I'm having two issues, one was with an earlier version -

Current issue: program exits without prompting. Thus, it's completely unusable. It could be loading an existing softsynth is the issue.

Previous issue: Difficulty working with my softsynth in pianoroll view if I'm simultaneously working with a keyboard MIDI on other tracks. I have Windows 10 and a pretty strong 5 year program.

  17. Let's say I've selected all or part of some tracks. I press CTRL+ left click above the timeline to select Thru Now. Sometimes when I do this Cakewalk by Bandlab selects From Now through End instead. How can I make it so that CTRL + left click selects Thru Now?
