I can almost guarantee this is the cause.
Cakewalk will automatically refresh activation if it's logged in and it detects you're close to needing an activation refresh. But what has changed for me is that the refresh seems to be required every 3 weeks or so, when it used to be 6 months. I'm not aware of any official explanation for that yet.

This is a forum for CbB, by definition a place where people are invited to express their opinions about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, not just the people that agree with you. The attitude in the quote above is somewhat common on this forum, but even if it is well intentioned, you need to realize that it is driving some people away from CbB/Sonar in general. So they are taking the part of your advice where you tell them to switch DAWS.

As with a lot of things, repetition is very helpful. The first two times I tested S1 thinking I might switch, I just couldn't get comfortable with it. The third time was the charm, it now makes sense to me and I like it very much!

I’ve just seen a lot of posts from people complaining about CbB needing activation every few weeks. I think they are also offline.
This may be one of the factors. My DAW PC is offline unless I'm intentionally updating something, and I have gotten a number of the superfluous activation requests for CbB when offline,

If even one person was turned on to Yes after watching the video linked in Patrick's post, it was well worth it!

Just in case you are not aware, these Perpetual licenses with the hybrid thing are what they call 'non upgradable' perpetual licenses, whatever version Studio One is on when you complete your year/12 months subscription, is what your perpetual version will stay at, of course if you keep your subscription rolling your perpetual license will roll along with it.
Perhaps a more accurate term would be 'non-updatable' instead of 'non-upgradable'. Here is what the PreSonus website Hybrid Q & A says (the bolding is mine):
Will I get bug fix updates to my version of Studio One Pro after my Studio One+ Hybrid subscription has expired?
All minor “point-point” or “sub-point” maintenance updates (X.X.1, X.X.2, etc.) will be available to you until the next major "point" release (Ex. X.1, X.2, X.5, etc.). If you are on version X.1 when your Hybrid subscription expires, you will be eligible for point-point releases X.1.1, X.1.2, etc. Your non-updating Pro license will not be eligible for a free update to version X.2. You can get access to the latest major point release by purchasing a Studio One+ Monthly plan, renewing your Studio One+ Hybrid plan, or purchasing a standalone Pro perpetual license upgrade (Pro-to-Pro) at any time. All three purchase options are available for users on non-updating Pro licenses. Prior supported versions of Studio One Pro will also remain available to you, should you need to roll back for any reason.

6.6 broke several VST3s, and there were not enough updates in it to warrant installing, so staying on the last 6.5 update isn't going to affect you one iota. A "fix" for that VST3 issue has still not been released.
If I'm understanding the information on the PreSonus forum's Studio One 6.6 thread correctly, the 6.6 update more strictly enforces the standards for VST3, which caused problems for a few 3rd party plugins that did not follow the VST3 standards closely enough. So far, PreSonus is taking the stance that it is up to the affected 3rd parties to bring their VST3 plugins up to the standards. I believe at least two of them have already issued updates to their plugins which enable them to work as expected with S1 6.6.

I am aware of VI Control and the drama that sometimes exists there, though I only go on it if I'm interested in a particular product that is being discussed there. VI Control is not specific to any single DAW or any other type product, so it is not relevant to the statement I made comparing the Cakewalk forum with another DAW specific forum.

As with most things in life, there is no perfect solution.
Applying the offset and exporting the new positions is good from an audio standpoint, perhaps this is the most important.
From a visual standpoint, the notes in the new positions will look slightly out of place in the piano roll view, and perhaps even more so in the staff view. Also, there is no way to negatively offset a note that starts at 0:00:000, so you'll want to pad the beginning of your song with some empty time.

I will admit that it feels like there is significantly more drama on this forum than on the forum of the other DAW I use.

I signed and submitted the NDA for the Sonar Beta a while ago and recently downloaded Backstage Pass/Sonar. Unclear how to activate it Anyone have any information?
After you submitted the NDA, Bandlab should have given you access to an additional private thread on this forum. If that has happened, you'll see the thread named "Cakewalk Sonar Beta {Private}". The Sonar Beta version is available within that private thread. It may not be exactly the same as what is available through Backstage Pass, it may be a version or two ahead of what is available through Backstage Pass. The Backstage Pass version has a 3-day free limit or requires a monthly or annual Backstage Pass membership, the Beta version does not. If you don't see the private thread, you don't have access to the Beta version.

For what it is worth, I believe Noel called what is currently available to the public via Backstage Pass an "early access" version.

All I know is I explored the whole web site , I used the search function using demo and Free trail. I used Google. If it’s that elusive it’s just not going to be found.
And the only option to get at the download is to agree to a monthly payment, I call that a subscription. Possibly people who always had the software can still have a lifetime license.
Back when Gibson pulled the plug on Sonar I installed the free version which was easily found and installed. The link to the download was provided a few posts earlier. Even without that, I was just now able to get there doing a google search for "presonus studio one demo", so it can easily be found.
You definitely do not have to agree to a monthly payment to get at the download. You do have to set up an account with Presonus, because they issue a serial number for the demo, which would become your serial number for the purchased product if you subsequently decide to do that. And you can definitely purchase a permanent license (no subscription) if you so choose.
I know all of the above to be true because I have recently done it, as I'm sure a number of others have as well.

"Free 30-Day Pro Demo" link on this page
That's the one! That should work, if you haven't demoed version 6 or higher before on the computer in question. Looks like I was wrong about the 15 days, it is 30, even better. It's a very handy tool built right into the DAW. One of quite a few little ways that Studio One is ahead of Cakewalk/Sonar.
-
There used to be a free version, I think called Studio One Prime, and that technically doesn't exist anymore. But there is a time limited demo of the pro version available. When the time is up (I think 15 days) it reverts to the equivalent of the Prime version, which does not support third party VSTs. So you have to get your plugin testing done in the 15 day period.

If it doesn't have to be this set of consoles and you are open to other options, maybe one of the console emulations from this package is good enough? And it's also cheaper. 😄
Thanks for the suggestion. I was aware of those, but felt the two "consoles" I most wanted were the Classic British (Neve) and Custom in CTC-1. So I'm going to hold out for another sale on that.
Softube Tape, which is the only 3rd party plugin supporting the Studio One Mix FX, was(is?) on sale by itself and in a bundle for a good price, and that was also tempting. I tried the demo on that. It's CPU use was higher than the included Console Shaper, and I think I prefer console emulation to tape emulation, so I didn't buy that either.
-
I am happy for you!
Bummer for me. I've been watching closely for it to go on sale. When I saw this, I was at first pretty excited, now I'm rather disappointed. Oh well.
-
Well, I guess I know the answer to my question. There is no way to add it to the cart, so it is NOT available.
-
I'd like to buy this from JRR, but when I go to the linked page, it says "Availability: Out of stock". Do you think that is really true, or should I try ordering it anyway and see what happens?

For this reason I'll stick with version 2022.11 as long as it runs and if then the offline activation is not available, I'll jump back to Sonar Platinum!
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that a new activation server was started at the time 2023.09 was issued and the old server shut down. Version 2022.11 only knows about the old server, so it may be impossible for it to re-activate. That's one main reason why Bandlab told everyone to update to 2023.09, as it is the only version that is aware of the new activation server. I suppose it is possible that they haven't shut down the old server, but if so, it's just a matter of time before they do.

Yes, I applaud NI for this unusually worthwhile voucher. Most of them in the past could not be applied to upgrades, but this one can. It enabled me to upgrade from the Stradivarius Violin (which I had as part of Komplete 14U) to the full Cremona quartet for US $49.50.

The crossgrade would also apply to later paid products, meaning X3 and Platinum, but yes, CbB is excluded.
I did the same thing as jesse g when this promotion first started on 11-20-23. I'm now enjoying Studio One Pro.
I tried it briefly a couple times in the past after the Gibson fiasco and it didn't quite resonate with me then. But this third time is the charm, it is making sense to me now, and it really is much more advanced than CbB and the new Sonar in a lot of little ways and a few big ways. I don't know if the new Sonar will ever catch up.

There are a lot of rumblings about it. Starting with 3.0, the main focus is to support NKS2 and Kontakt 7.7, so if you don't need that, there's not much reason to update. Alongside the NKS2 changes, many people consider the other changes starting with 3.0 a step or two (or three) backwards, especially as far as workflow is concerned. I'm in that camp, so I'm staying with 2.9.6.
Also, most of the updates coming out now for the Kontakt products make the products require Kontakt 7.7+, and there are a lot of grumblings about that too. So, I decided to upgrade my Komplete Ultimate 12 to the now "aging" version 14 a month or so ago, and then pretty much commit to no more updates from Native Instruments.

Anyway, the best price I've found so far:
https://www.thomannmusic.com/presonus_studio_one_6_pro_ug_1_5_pro.htm?reload=1
Though the Presonus information conspicuously does not mention the crossgrade option, the crossgrade is discounted on the Thomann site from $299 down to $182. That's what I've been waiting for, so I have purchased the crossgrade from Thomann.

EDIT: I should mention, however, that plugins that affect dynamics will of course behave differently if the change is a pre-FX gain change vs. a post-FX volume change.
Just to add to this, other types of plugins can also be affected by gain changes, such as amp and console emulators, those that intentionally add distortion. Usually for those types of plugins, the more input gain they receive, the more distortion they add to the dry audio. But if you use volume changes, the ratio of added distortion to dry audio won't change, just the volume of the combined audio.

Studio One does work well with some controllers outside of their own. The ones from Nektar (mostly keyboard controllers, but there is also one stand-alone controller) have excellent integration. It appears that PreSonus and Nektar collaborated on the integrations. From my personal experience, I heartily recommend them.
