Plate is my favourite plate reverb - love it. And you don't get access to it for free in Falcon, unlike some of the other effects.

I'm not sure if you're saying it makes your throat hurt sympathetically or if you actually listen to any of this kind of music, but as someone who has had a great fondness for death metal and some of the less extreme black metal bands like Samael, it makes my throat hurt too. 

When I was in my teens through my thirties I could sing along (growl along?) with death or black metal, but now that I'm nearing 50, my voice just can't tolerate it for more than a few seconds - probably not a good sign for the health of the vocal cords. Just as well I don't listen to that kind of music anymore really.

This is what I'm getting back to now. It took letting go of obsessing about plugin deals to get there though. 

I had my own uncomfortable realization recently. I added up how much I've spent on music software, sound ware, hardware and DAWs since 2020 when I decided to get back into music.

It was a lot more than I thought I'd spent. Like 4x more than I thought I'd spent. 

I loved Ableton Live (10 then 11 Std) for a while, coming from Reason then Reaper then FL Studio and briefly trying Cubase Pro. Eventually certain annoyances with Live got to me and I decided to try Bitwig. It was as if they specifically decided to fix the things that were broken in Ableton while keeping most of the rest the same. 

The only thing I miss is built in retrospective recording. 

They don't need to charge WUP. They ask you to buy the plugin again if they do major work rewriting it. And they keep adding new things to their bundles to get you to upgrade the bundles every year or two. 

Next up they might start emulating drum machines and have a drum bundle. 

Three analog drum machines you will actually use. 

Three digital drum machines... you get the picture. 

I reckon I'd buy that bundle too, lol. 

Heads up to potential buyers, the Pearl Concert Grand has issues in some of the samples, specifically there's noise in some of the hall mic samples. I think they have a lot of nerve continuing to sell it.

Assuming daws and plugins implement the async/await pattern, it shouldn't be less efficient, ie they shouldn't block (the processor) while waiting for the fx send to be executed. 

I only just learned about this fairly recently while working on some asynchronous Dot Net code for the first time. I thought it was quite clever. But I am a geek. 

It's a lot more efficient to set up fx like reverbs as sends, especially if you have a slow computer like me ?

Including fx in this channel strip would encourage people to do all their fx as inserts instead, and then they'd complain at how inefficient the plugin is. ?

Well I got one thing right. They got rid of WUP.

WUPs time was up. 

I've bought over $550 worth of Waves abandonware it seems. But if I'm honest, I hardly use any of it. So I guess I'm just glad I didn't WUP or upgrade to Mercury. 

I think with the amount of backlash they're facing, they might pull a Bitwig and reverse course. But maybe it's all just part of the plan to drum up more sales? Take away perpetual sales temporarily to sell a few subs, then give in to customer demand and bring back perpetual sales later.

There's no indication they're going sub, or at least sub only. Mathematics on VI Control called Waves and was told "DEALERS won't be able to sell perpetual licenses after the 23rd but Waves will still offer perpetual licenses directly."

I reckon AVID might have offered free transitional licenses for existing Waves licenses to sweeten the deal. That's what I'd do if I was AVID. 

tmpc on VI Control contacted Waves and was told "they are moving to a different company to handle the actual license generation and management"

I still think I might be right about them getting rid of WUP. Maybe moving back to iLok. It made sense to use their own license manager when creating new iLok licenses comes at a cost and new Waves versions covered under WUP required generating new licenses. But what an error prone mess Waves licenses are. I'm terrified of updating Waves plugins because half the time everything disappears and I have to do some kind of deep clean to get them back. It must have been costing Waves a fortune in support dealing with all the issues. Whereas iLok, for all the hate it gets, works pretty reliably these days. So if there's no more WUP, then there's no reason to maintain their own licensing and copy-protection regime when iLok does it better. 

Anyway that's just my guess... partly fueled by wishful thinking ?

This is one United Plugins plugin I'm really happy to have bought. I copied the settings I saw someone demo in a YouTube video and saved it as a preset to add crunch to drums, and using that I can take super clean SSD5 drums and make them sound like Goldbaby samples. So I think adding some new presets was a good call. 

I've been keeping an eye on Unify and the deals really are few and far between so I decided it was best to grab this while it was reduced. Looking forward to learning more about it. Clearly I'm going to have to read the manual because I couldn't figure out how to scan for VSTs ?

If you bought Mini Syn'X you would have been eligible for a discount when upgrading to Syn'X that worked as a coupon code that reduced the full price of Syn'X. Previously I'm pretty sure the discount was 39 Euro. I paid 59 Euro for Mini Syn'X so it never seemed like a good deal to upgrade to me. But Syn'X has never come down very cheaply. Perhaps because they have this upgrade angle to deal with. 

Anyway at present the upgrade coupon is worth 59 euro, which brings the price down to 40 Euro. So at that point, I jumped. 

FYI Mini Syn'X is serial protected. Syn'X requires iLok.

I tried a couple others (Avantone Planar, Audio Technica R70x, both great but too small for my gigantic head) and eventually settled on DT 1990 Pros, which are also the ones the Realphones devs recommend the most. They are tonally similar to the K701 I'd say, but much, much more detailed to the point where you can't believe what you've been missing all this time. I would highly recommend the step uo if you use headphones a lot.

Nice. I use headphones all the time. The 1990 Pros are the ones I had thought about stumping up for. Guess I'd better start saving then!
