  1. I have a related question and hope it's ok to ask it here. Is there a 64-bit version? The one I have 32-bit? Also, I just finished installing plugins from 8-Platinum in order. I assumed that plugins would be upgraded to the latest version. i.e newer versions would replace older versions. Is that not true?
  2. I'm confused. Do Cakewalk updates use the default Template paths assigned by Cakewalk or the paths in File Location Preferences? When I create templates, I use names not being used by used for the "stock" templates and I think mine are left alone by updates. And when I change paths, I move the stock content to the new location. Do Cakewalk updates reconstruct the content at the location assigned when Cakewalk was initially installed?
  3. For me Regedit was not required because I used a Restore Point to uninstall Cakewalk software which allowed me to time travel back to when Cakewalk software had been installed. ☺️
  4. Thanks. You're right. I'm thinking it might be handy when opening old projects, but it has been a lot of trouble so far. I'm thinking most of the 64-bit plugins from SONAR 8 on should run, though I've had issues with some of them. However, earlier, mostly 32-bit, versions are probably useless and I'm not bothering with those. Also, I'm nostalgic and like to look back at the way it was, when we were younger. Hey, that might be a good hook🤣
  5. Thanks. But if you have 8.5 you must also have 8 since 8.5 is an update for 8. Hopefully, there's an advanced minimal install for 8. I did a full install yesterday. Good idea on copying DVDs to SSD drives. It's nice to know the installers will run from a SSD. I had trouble getting some of the DVDs to load for 8, but in the end they all did and I had no other problems. Historically I've altered install paths in the past but this time I'm sticking with the defaults.
  6. I hope I can remember to not install Dimensiion Pro until I get to Platinum where I can use Command Center.
  7. Well, I'd installed 1.2 first which required me to use the 1.5 update, but the update wouldn't install because it couldn't find the 1.2 version. I then uninstalled the 1.2 version and tried to run the complete install version of 1.5, but it balked and said it found an older version. That's when I gave up used a restore point to eliminate all the Cakewalk installs. Hopefully this time I'll not install the 1.2 version and be able to install the full 1.5 version using Command Center as @scook suggested.
  8. Thanks. I'm really trying, but so far not, succeeding in making a clean install. I'll use the clean install instructions. I think I have them saved in OneNote as well. Other than my Scarlett 18i8, Cakewalk is the first DAW software I'm installing. So I don't need to worry about other plugins. I'm interested in the stereo version that came with 8. It disappeared after 8.5 according to the spreadsheet. I should be able to install it in 8 & 8.5 to get the update if there was one. I didn't remember to choose the minimal installations when installing yesterday. Hopefully, I'll remember that tomorrow. I think there are a couple of plugins from X1 that I'd like to install. I am using the spreadsheet. I have that in OneNote as well. I've now got a copy that is highlighted to show when the plugins I'm interested in were last available so that I'll get the latest version. I will do full Platnium install followed by CbB. This PC is Windows 11 Pro. So, I'm hoping that won't cause any problems. IIRC, all the anecdotal accounts I've noticed on the forum have indicated that no one is having problems with Windows 11. Thanks again.
  9. I'm starting over again installing legacy SONAR versions to gain access to legacy 64-bit plugins and I have a few questions. I've read, TMK, all the forum post on this subject and have a half-dozen browser tabs open to them for reference, and I still found a way to screw the install up. After working on it for several days and spending hours of trying to get the Dimension Pro 1.5 update to install with X1, I regressed to a restore point just after I installed my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and before I'd installed any Cakewalk software. The programs are gone from the Programs and Features list, but all the folders and supporting files up through X1 are still there. Should I delete all of the Cakewalk folders and files? I started with SONAR 8 DVDs because I wanted to have the Lexicon Pantheon reverb that wasn't available after 8.5 and I needed 8 to install8.5. I used advanced install but installed all 64-bit plugins. Was that a mistake? Should I have installed no plugins with 8 and just the Pantheon Reverb with 8.5? Would that have allowed me to install the full version of Dimension Pro with X1, or could I have waited to install Dimension Pro with Platinum? My new PC is Windows 11. From reading Forum posts, my understanding is that these programs will all run on Windows 11, though I don't intend to run any other than CbB. I just want the plugins. Sorry, and Thank you.
  10. Thanks for the clarification. IIRC, It's been more than a decade since I last installed any of these older version. I don't think 01_READ_FIRST does contain install instructions. I read through them several times and didn't see that. I hadn't downloaded Parts 3&4. Starting with SONAR 8, I've been using advanced install, but I've been installing all 64-bit plugins with the idea that they will get updated as I go. Also, I'm having so much fun doing this that I don't want to do it again. Thank again.
  11. I need some help in installing SONAR X1. I have three SONAR X1 initial install files shown here inside the squiggly blue line. I installed .part1 but .part2 is a rar file. I tried unzipping it using 7zip, WinZip and RAR Opener. All had errors in extracting Setup-6.bin, and there doesn't appear to be .exe file to launch. This may have been installed by .part1 but I can't tell since I don't know what's in it. It doesn't appear to be addressed in the ReadMe doc. The Additional_Content installer does launch, but I closed it because the installer states that Dimension Pro 1.5 needs to be installed first. I have that as a separate installer.
  12. So that's it. Thanks. I have the SONAR 8, 4 DVD box set. So I can install that. All I want are 64 bit plugins that aren't available on later versions. It looks like the only one that was dropped after 8.5 is the Lexicon Pantheon Reverb. Looks like I can get it on 8.0 and don't need to install 8.5. Hopefully it has an advanced install option.
  13. I've just built a new PC and want to install legacy plugins, starting with 8.5, before installing CbB. I believe I have all the correct files. Here's a link to screenshots of the install file folder and the error message. I believe the problem is that the installer is looking for the previous (8.3.1, I think) of SONAR which I don't want to install. I tried running the installer as Administrator and that didn't help. I've also used the "can't locate the required version" in both Cakewalk Forum and Google searches with no luck. So maybe this is new. My new PC is Windows 11, don't have it listed in my signature yet. I did find this form post from 2009 indicating I do need at least 8.0 installed to use the downloaded installer. Of course, the 8.0 installer may require that an earlier version is installed.
  14. Using instructions you've provided on the forum, I'm starting today loading minimal installations of SONAR (8.5, X1-3 & Platinum) on a new PC before I install Cakewalk. I've never used the Time/Pitch Stretch 2 plugin, but I hope I get it my installs.
  15. I suggest you read through this thread. I believe you'll see that the only person being in any way aggressively or disrespectfully here is you in your references to "they" and their undisclosed transgressions. To me, it sounds to me that you're trying to pick a fight over some past transgressions that maybe only you remember. Also, going back to 2019 might indicate you hold a grudge too long.
  16. Does this require Loop Construction View as described here?
  17. Exception handling to prevent plugins from crashing DAWs must be difficult or plugins wouldn't be listed as causing 99.9% of all DAW crashes by Production Experts. There are probably a number of plugin failure modes that can and are anticipated by DAW developers. But there are also probably an incalculable number of ways plugins can crash that nobody can anticipate until it happens.
  18. Read this before posting here for assistance when Cakewalk crashes. It might save you and the people trying to assist you some time. However, the troubleshooting method proposed seems hard to implement, for me at least. I have a couple of thousand plugins and plucking (then replacing) half of the 10-20 I'm using in a project from their folders in the plugin 10 +/- Plugin folders can take a while. Maybe renaming them by adding character to the .dll or .vst3 suffix (.dllx or .vst3x) might work and be easier.
  19. So a pet name (dropped 2 characters) not an acronym? Hmmm.🙄 Now that I know what this discussion is all about, I can say that I do appreciate the mobile phone UI improvements and agree that it is much improved. Before, I often, but not always, had to switch to landscape and zoom/scroll to read forum content.
  20. You're kidding, right? I don't recall receiving any X2, X3 or Platinum CD's, just hours of downloads.
  21. I thought the same thing. Then I installed 1000 VSTs on a 2nd drive and learned that the VST3 versions of those plugins install in the Program Files folder on the System (C:/) drive. And, many of them, even the VST2 versions, store lots of data in the Users folder also on the System (C:/) drive. And then there's the installers and other small programs installed by some VST Installers. I don't have much other than the DAW on my PC and I have 300-400 programs listed under Programs and Features on Control Panel. I ended upgrading my System drive to 500 GB.
  22. I'm not sure I understand the question. So I'll tell you what I do. I too have a Focusrite audio interface. The Cakewalk Master bus output is routed to the Focusrite Monitor output. I don't mess with that. The Windows 10 audio output is routed separately to, in your case, the laptop speakers. But other routing options exist like Bluetooth. The selection is made using the little speaker 🔊 icon on the tool bar. To test a mix, I export it as a 16/44.1 wave file and use the Windows Media player which uses output selected with the little speaker 🔊 icon.
  23. Thanks, I do have some Melda stuff but it may be all free plugins. I doubt they'd add another 20% discount for something that's being offered at a 84% discount. Who's Brian Walton?
  24. What about Melda's mdrumstrip? It's not free but for today, (I think) it's $53. I hope to try it out before that deal expires.
