  1. I'm still having trouble with this, and support was unable to replicate, but another user was able to replicate the issue. CD/DVD drives do not appear to behave correctly in the Media Browser. I am getting the behavior that either the drive does not show up. It MAY shows up if you do a View all files, but not always. If you put a disk in, then the drive disappears from the Media Browser all together, and does not update with the title of the DVD/CD. All in all, it's very wonky behavior, and I can't get it to consistently to As mentioned above, it works fine in Windows File Manager, and showing the drive, as well as Sound Forge and Sonar X3. Something has changed in the behavior of how CD/DVD drives are handled now. This is a big issue for me, because in order to be able to use my sample CDs/DVD (I have a lot of them) I will be forced to copy files over to hard drives before I can even try using them. I'd like it to work how it worked in X3, if possible. If there was a change, then why? Remember, if you do try testing this, you will need test with actually inserting a disk to see the issue. I'm hoping one of the Baker's can look into this
  2. Having had an issue with Preview on certain files, and currently working with support on another issue with the Media Browser, I feel your pain! I haven't had the same issue that you have, but had an issue that involved certain WAV files not previewing correctly as well. Please consider the following if you haven't tried already: 1) When the issue happens with the same file, you said you can replicate it until you restart Cakewalk. So, does it still happen if you mute the Preview Bus? Also, what happens if you mute ALL busses? Then mute the Master bus only? Is there still output on the Hardware interface meters? This might help track down where the errant audio is coming in from, and which bus. 2) One of my issues with Media Browser came from the fact that some of the WAV files had a wav file header that caused a playback problem. It looks like you're using a sample pack from a company. Is the issue always caused by the same company's files? Do you have an issue with other samples, from other companies? If you have any REX (.rx2) files, see if you run into the issue with REX file playback as well. 3) When you get this issue, what happens if you do a reset of the audio engine, does it still happen? Also, if you have another audio interface (like an on-board Soundblaster or RealTek sound chip) when the issue happens again, switch to one of these sources and see if you can replicate the issue. Also, if you have other audio driver types besides ASIO, try switching to those like WDM or WASAPI if you have those as choices, and see if you can replicate the issue there. 3) My issue was fixed in 2021.01, 2019.09 is a bit far back. Is there a reason why you don't go to 2021.01? What version of OS are you running? How old are the Hammerfall drivers? All of these suggestions are designed to try to pinpoint if some kind of issue is happening on certain files, and if the issue lies with Cakewalk, or the audio driver. Hope this helps!
  3. Thanks for your help and confirmation, Royarn. I guess I'm off to file a bug report. I haven't tried them in a while. I've heard about the COD. I'll see if I can get some time and haul them out and see if they even still work.
  4. Hey, would you mind letting me know a few things that might help me track down this issue? 1) Did you actually try putting a CD/DVD in the drive, and then trying to look at the files in the Media Browser? Cause mine will show up UNTIL you put a disc in it. 2) Who is the manufacturer of your DVD Drive, if you know? Thanks!
  5. Ha ha, no. I don't -- but I have a BIOS that unless you tell it to disable it, it so kindly gives you one, even though it's not really there. I actually thought that this could be the issue as well, so I cut off the BIOS option, and the A: drive went away. However, the issue remains -- my DVD drive does not show up. I did a little bit more investigating -- I noticed that if don't put a CD/DVD in the drive, then it shows up in the Media Browser. But as soon as you do, it then disappears. You take it out -- and then it shows up in the Media Browser. However, again, it works fine with CDs/DVD's in Sonar X3, can read them fine, no problem. I looked at making sure the driver was updated, and it was the latest (really, no changes have been made with DVD drivers) I really don't know what to do at this point. I guess I can try to put it into an external case and hook it up via USB. which I'll probably try to pick up cheap on Ebay since the the local Microcenter now wants a fortune for such 'vintage' hardware. I'm kinda still hoping that the Baker's have a look at it. PS: @Kevin Perry and @msmcleod: I really do have a floppy -- but a USB one. I also have a ZIP and JAZ drive, a 5-1/4 inch floppy too.
  6. Thanks man. I guess I'll have to keep on investigating what could be the issue.
  7. Has Cakewalk stopped support for CD/DVD drives in the Media Browser? My D : (DVD Drive) shows up in Windows like this: But in CBB: It no longer shows up in the Media Browser: However, I tested Sonar X3, and it shows up there. It also showed up in Studio One 4, and SoundForge. I know I'm old school, but I have *many* sample CDs/DVDs that I have collected and like to get samples from. I wonder if anybody else is having this same issue?
  8. Automate the Volume of the Metronome Bus on the last 2-3 measures, or Automate it's mute is probably even better.
  9. No, don't get me wrong, I agree with you and Xel Ohh and countless others on this, and many other additions that I would like to see added to CBB that would facilitate making producing easier for genres like Hip-Hop, EDM, Pop etc. I primarily replied because of scook suggestion of Elastique. Elastique is a good plugin, but it's $200.00. I wanted to give a very low-cost, but high-quality solution for folks who need pitch shifting as well. I will also say that (in my opinion), that Cakewalk focus does not seem to be on adding such features, and I feel that's both a detriment and a shame. So, I think the best thing to do right now is to do the best workaround I can, and continue to request the features be added.
  10. I like to use Pitch Shifter from Kilohearts. You can get it for $19.00 from Kilohearts.com, or if you buy Computer Music #261 from PocketMags (https://pocketmags.com/us/computer-music-magazine/autumn-2018) for $3.99, then as part of the Monthly Bundle you can get it and 2 other Kilohearts effects. I like it because it's very simple and light, and it uses granular, but it sounds great.
  11. I like the new Insert track enhancement, but it's a bit disconcerting to me, because it does the insert BEFORE the selected track. My preference would be AFTER the selected track. I'll do a FR to have this as a user-settable preference if possible. It is better than sticking it at the end, though.
  12. 1) Ok, cool. From @Jonathan Sasor reply above, it implies that maybe some templates MIGHT have this set. Apparently, the Basic one (which I used) does not. Is it documented/known which ones might? Also, as some have pointed out, it's not apparent knowing if "Preview samples at Tempo" is set, and it would be nice to be able to see it and toggle it on/off as an indicator button rather than the somewhat obscure current method. I'll write a FR for this. 2) Yes, I believe it's an authoring problem, and I will get with the vendor to see if they decide to fix it (probably not). I think another feature would be nice would be to color-code one shots in a different font color, something similar to the Instruments/Effects menu that lets you know which are DirectX and VST2/VST3 based on font color. Also, the little message window at the bottom of the browser you can't see the full info about the sample, would be nice if we could get the full info shown with maybe something like a expanded tooltip when 'hovering' over that line. Thank you very much for the fixes so far.
  13. I'm an experienced software developer with extensive background on testing methods and embedded systems development and support and I build all of my own Windows boxes from scratch. As a matter of fact, not too long ago I upgraded my CPU, RAM and moved my system to an SSD, and of course I updated all my motherboard and other drivers at that time. I don't use on-board audio as well. I don't say this to brag or that I don't make mistakes (because I do!), but 'checking drivers ' and such are part of the professional checklist that I run through when I am debugging a system. It never hurts to be reminded to do that however, so I do thank you for the suggestion. I still don't believe it's an issue with my audio driver, given what I have stated above, but I could be wrong. I've posted info that I think the Bakers can use to look into the issues. That's all I can do and hope for at this point in time.
  14. Yes, to clarify: I was only saying 32-bit because all the 32-bit files that I had from that vendor had that ACIDized-wav header info. Also, as I mentioned to CBB support and in my reply to the testing that I did above, you guys can use the same file that I sent in the original bug report. It exhibits the 1st measure static issue. I can also report that other files that have this same ACIDized-wave header issue seem to have the same issue on 1st measure start. Edit: Also, as I mentioned above, it appears that these types of files do not sync to project tempo, even if the "Preview at Project Tempo" is set. I observed that this header information in the files has been set to "One-Shot", and wondered if that was the reason why they are not synching.
  15. Because, when I was asked to help debug the issue that I reported, it was pointed out to me by CBB support that if you are running Windows 10, that either WASAPI shared or WASAPI Exclusive might be/are better than ASIO, since they are the new Windows 10 driver modes. Here is what the documentation says: On my system, I need to use a shared one because I often run either Chrome Browser or LoopCloud outside of CBB and so I need shared access to audio output. However, you are right, generally ASIO works fine, and I might go back to it if it does not exhibit any issues. In my case, as you said, this does not apply. It's not actually a loop, just straight sample drag-and-drop then play. Yeah, I know about zero crossing, and from what I can tell looking at the file in a wave editor, the sample is starting at zero, it still has static 1st measure. And again, this does not seem to happen if it is running in ASIO mode.
  16. That does fix the issue for REX2 files and the WAV files. But... 1) The update must have had this flag cut off. I had it on initially, and I thought that is the default. So, what is the proper default? 2) There is still an issue with the 32-bit WAV files as in the fix. They STILL do not sync to tempo even with that flag on. On further examination of the 32-bit files: It does seem that these 32-bit WAV files have for the Loops setting in the ACID header set to One-Shot, even though it's clearly a loop! I'd like to see a response from Cakewalk if this matters on preview, otherwise, I probably have to take this up with the sample vendor.
  17. Cakewalk Developers: I was asked to test this bug fix by Support for the issue that I submitted to you guys: Misc. -- Imported .wav file has clicks from time stretch I did test, and in general, the fix does work, thank you very much, but I found two more issues, the second one I believe is quite serious, and may have been affected by this fix. 1) On the sample I sent you guys to replicate the ACID-wave file issue, if you start that sample at measure #1, and are running WASAPI shared mode driver, you will get some noise/static at the start of playback of this sample. Here's what I know about it: -- Seems to only happen on WASAPI shared. Seems to play fine on ASIO and WASAPI Exclusive. -- The weird thing, is that it will go away if you leave Windows Media Player open. While it is open, no static if played. If it is closed, then there is static if played from Measure #1. -- There is no static if the sample is moved/dragged from starting at Sample #1 and started from another spot. -- I don't see this issue in SoundForge 10 or Studio One 4. But, I'm running ASIO for StudioOne4, so that is probably the reason why. I would posture to think this is a strange interaction with Windows WASAPI Shared driver with the Audio engine of CBB. Seems whatever resource it needs is there if Windows Media Player is open, but if it closed, I suspect CBB audio engine has to create/re-create the resource, and the time or memory in doing so, causes crackles in the audio playback if played from measure #1. The next one is a very serious issue, at least to me: 2) Wav File and REX2 preview playback no longer work. or at least the way they did in previous versions WAV files and REX2 playback no longer follow project tempo. I'm not even sure what tempo they are following at all, it does not seem to follow the sample tempo either. I did a test with Sonar X3. Both WAV and REX2 both followed project tempo. This is very helpful of auditioning loops without having to drag them in and timestretch them. My guess this was broken in fixing the Acid info in header bug. Please let me know if you need any more information or if I can help any further.
  18. Thanks, @Noel Borthwick. CBB support wanted me to screenshot my audio driver settings to them, but I reminded them that I could replicate this without any audio driver at all, and to contact you further about this issue, so looks like they did. I purchased several sample packs over the holidays, and this is where I ran into the issue, I was seeing it in many files when I went to audition them. Edison is a standalone (and VST) audio editor made by FL Studio. That bug is definitely very strange -- ACIDdized wave file metadata would have been part of the WAV file format written originally by Sonic Foundry (The original software company that made the ACID DAW) So why would having ACID metadata would CBB think it's a REX file, which is a file format originally from Propelleheads? I guess it doesn't matter now -- I'm just glad it has a solution, otherwise, I was going to have to hunt down and fix all the affected samples! Thanks again for you and CBB support staff, and looking forward to the fix.

    How to do this?

Hey Bill, sorry now just seeing this. Yeah, I really, really love that Kilohearts pitch plug-in. I find it very useful to chuck it into the effects bin of the preview track. Then you can use it to tune samples up/down when you are browsing samples. Makes it easy to audition samples that are not in your project's pitch, and really speeds up the workflow. Since you like being distracted -- if you liked that issue, I want to make you aware that Computer Music has a compilation issue on Music theory you might be interested in as well: https://www.discountmags.com/magazine/the-producers-music-theory-handbook-digital. I think I have the hard-copy of it, which I recommend so that it's easy to take with me and read. CM also has many other mags, and special issues as well, be sure to check them out. One special issue is the samples issue, which I'm sure will probably distract you further: https://www.magzter.com/GB/Future/Computer-Music-Special/Music/65493 It probably works out better to join Readly or Magzster if you decide to check out a few others.

    How to do this?

As pointed out, you either need a Sampler (which is overkill) or a effect/Effect VST Pitch shifter to do this. There's a Pitch Shifter Plugin by Kilohearts. It's $15.00 online, or if you pickup Computer Music magazine Digital Back issue #261 (https://pocketmags.com/us/computer-music-magazine/autumn-2018) that cost $3.99, you get Pitch Shifter, along with two other effects from their monthly plugin giveaways. This a quality pitch shifter because it uses granular pitch shifting, and to me sounds pretty great. It's small and easy to use as well.
  21. Dear CBB team, Can the team have a look at this issue, which I posted about in the Forum awhile back as well. Also sent it to support (Issue: 449386), who requested the wav file, but have not heard anything back yet. I've been through the typical audio setting/adjustment things on my own and with support, with no success. Issue: Possible issue when Cakewalk tries to import/sample convert IEEE-32 Bit floating point WAV files. Sample that for me causes the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x8x6ug2m7r9our7/AW2_Grave_Digger_Piano_Fm_135bpm_1.wav?dl=0 How I am able to see the issue: 1) Unzip the file and put it somewhere you can point the CBB browser to it. 2) Try previewing the sample in the CBB browser. It should play as normal. 3) Create a new Basic Project (or create a project that has an Audio Track). 4) Drag/Drop, or Insert the sample on the audio track, and then play it. On my system, this ends up having some large pop and crackles and slight stuttering of the sample. I can replicate the issue on other 34-bit IEEE-floating point samples as well. I don't seem to have the issue with any PCM wav files. It does not appear to be an audio driver/setting issue, because I can import and then export the track to wav file, and the audio distortion/crackling is there as well. Also, when I tried this with Sonar X3, both the preview AND the import were corrupted! This has lead me to think there was an issue that got fixed in the CBB browser, but not in the import. I have not been able to replicate this issue in any of my other software besides Cakewalk. Sample also plays fine in Windows Media Player.
  22. It's 44.1K, 16 bit. I'm running an old EMU 1820m, and it appears to be only support 24 bit at the highest. I made attempts to get it to go to 192k, 24-bit, but it looks like the patch software does not really support it, and it seems pretty much locked in CBB to 44.1/16bit. And I believe, as I said in the initial post and as you just stated, there seems to be an issue with resampling imported audio from some 32-bit wav files down to 16 bit.
  23. I tried reducing the gain, it's not working. There were some files that when played back, registered more than 0db, but I also had a file that had (according to CBB) 0 db, and it was still distorted with clicks and pops.
  24. @Glenn, that's interesting. I'll give that a try and reduce the gain a bit. The thing that (to me) is strange is that preview works with no distortion. Also, it works fine in Studio One 4. Also fine in Windows Media Player. Wonder if they automatically apply some gain reduction? Also, I get the clipping even when there are not high transients. I would think that at least, preview should behave the same as the actual inserted WAV file. They should both work or not work.
  25. This took me a while to track down, and it's quite interesting. I have a sample pack with IEEE 32-bit floating-point WAV files. On using the CBB Browser the file previews fine. When drag-and-drop (or regular import) it causes pops and clicks in the playback of the project on that track. The pops and clicks are rhythmic and proportional in volume to the audio transient - i.e., louder when the audio is louder, and softer when audio is softer, and quiet when there is no audio. Things I tried: 1) Switching to WDM <-> ASIO. Changed buffer size, Changed Multiprocessing Engine, Changed Import Bit Depth, Changed every audio engine thing I could -- still same issue. 2) Exported the file to a desktop WAV file -- the noise is there in the playback. 3) Sample plays fine in Windows Media Player 4) Sample works with ASIO drivers in Studio One 4, no issues. I noticed that it didn't happen on all samples, only certain ones. I tried several different samples, and then I noticed the difference -- The WAV files that are PCM-based (according to the notification line at the bottom of the CBB Browser window) seem to import and play fine (16-bit and 24-bit). However, every IEEE-Float 32-bit WAV file has this issue. I had this issue in the current Release of CBB, also the last Release of CBB. And, just for fun, I fired up Sonar X3 and checked it, and not only is the issue there as well, the preview also has that same issue! I've tried every option that seems to make sense. I'm running a i7 PC that has 6 cpu's, 12 cores, and the project is less that 1% of CPU, and consists of nothing but an audio track with the sample loaded onto it. I can't think of anything else to try. Given my experiments, it seems there's an issue with importing these types of samples into Cakewalk. My guess there's a resample problem when converting project audio. Hopefully, CW can look into this. If anybody knows anything else I should try out, please let me know.
