Did. Explained what I had tried so far. They recommended doing it again. sigh. No uninstall option so had to brute force delete, scrub registry, then re-install. Still acting quirky. Shows all my vsts instruments. Midi track shows active but not sending to the audio track. So no sound.
I guess it's a special feature.

Found the answer. You have to start a project first. Then the grey options become available.
-
I have a Control Bar question. Had to do a total re-install. Trying to set up Control Bar. I can make changes but the Save and Manage choices are greyed out. Is there a trick I should know about?
-
OK. So all this was a terrible plan. Created junction ok. Updated and everything crashed so bad I had to do a system restore. Could not uninstall. Hardway to delete and clean registry. Now I am ready to reinstall.
I am left with one junction: mklink /j "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk" "F:\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Content"
Directory on C:\ has: 01/14/2022 03:04 PM <JUNCTION> Documents and Settings [C:\Users]
How do you delete this link?

Just updated Cakewalk to latest version. Went to > Help > Refresh Registration and successful.
Five minutes I have to do it again. Am I overlooking something?
--------
After further review, clicking on the refresh tab gives activated notice, HOWEVER it doesn't actually activate. Did the offline process but no luck there either.

David - YOU ROCK!!!
I knew it had to be something simple.
Thank you so much.

Fascinated by this but want to clarify. Let's say Cakewalk installed to C/: I want to move everything to X/: So:
1. Move everything to X: 2. Make a Directory Junction C to X. (Google search says OS kinda see this DJ as a shortcut.) Will this process include all subfolders and files?
And I think you are saying any updates from now on look at the C; drive and relocates the update physically to the X: Drive.
Is it really that SIMPLE??
-
This is obviously a very powerful tool that many are not aware of. Be cool to have a detailed discription of the process detailing what it will do, what it won't do, and its limitations.
-
OK Scook last question. About to try this. Let's assume I have some custom files in say Cakewalk Core - Plugin Menu Layouts titled King's Plugins.
Does this process just update specific files inside the folder and leave the others untouched or will I lose King's Plugins. Can't afford to damage what I have.
-
Wonder if directory junction would fix metronome issue. Curious. Will have to try this.
-
And the metronome thing is interesting. Older versions never used a separate bus. You just turned it on or off on the tool bar. Or at least that's what I did.
-
Yeah. I certainly don't mess with registry. Not necessary. But like to keep as much music production off the OS drive as possible. Usually VST locations, Core, and Content.
-
Teah I just found that and need to learn how to use. So, is this a onetime thing that becomes automatic, or something I need to do every time I update? and thank you for your responses.
-
Thank you Scook. I moved most of files to a different drive location from OS - that file being one of them. AND it looks like you can't point Cakewalk to that location in Preferences.
sigh.
-
Michael - you are correct. The disconnect people have is a misunderstanding of what your RIGHTS really are. You have the right to do ANYTHING you want - but understand that that extraordinary right only extends to the tip of your nose - and no further.
That right ends there because you then intrude on others, and that is NOT your right.

I have a completely separate drive for my music business away from my OS drive. Since Cakewalk does not give an option to change install locations, so it installs files everywhere except where I need them. Updates are a chore to locate the new files, relocate, and determine what is different.
Wouldn't it be a nice feature to install updates to where my files are located?
-
I no longer have metronome sound. Switches on the tool bar operate. In preferences, toggled between audio and midi and nothing. In the audio dropdown there are no choices - blank.
Thought: Is it now required to have a metronome bus?
Thanks
-
Hey guys - should be the simplest of all things. But midi is not my strong suite. Track will not display velocity no matter what I try. I can hover the mouse over the note and get the icon to adjust but does not display the perpendicular line to see what I am doing.
Also weird - notes have always been blue. Now they are green. Is that a clue, maybe?
Copied to a separate midi track and they are brown. Plays but no way to adjust velocity.
-
Don't know what I hit but suddenly cannot do ANYTHING to midi track. Clue: there is a speaker icon displayed with the cursor. Any ideas what I hit? What is that function used for?
Thanks in advance

Building up a dedicated computer for a friend. Mostly done. Installed the drum progs & put maps in the Drum Maps Folder. I don't know the proper terminology, but now time to "assign" cakewalk to the drum prog mapping. Opened a project, went to drum midi track. I see the "drum map" button but drop down not available.
Is it possible that an interface connection is required before you can edit/assign?
Thanks in advance

Sory M.
Audio guy. Idiot with video.
User since Sonar4. Kinda thought anyone who uses CW would understand moving tracks/folders. Not sure how to better describe better. I simply cannot move a track or folder without it going into another folder. The Drag/Slide doesn't do anything. Only drag & drop up/down. Have to use "Remove from folder" to remove out of folder. Dragging just adds it to another folder.
My current solution - remove all tracks and delete all folders. Awkward using 7 softsynths, drums, and 9 vox tracks.
I wonder how deep I can go with sub sub sub sub folders. If it is only one sub level, can I make one folder & put the entire project inside?
Whatever the algorythm used, it's too sensitive
-
Yeah, still having issues trying to move/ reorder folders. "Sliding/ dragging" doesn't do anything on my daw. Years using the "line" to tell where to drop location. Now it doesn't matter what the "line" - it only goes to the nearest folder.
I have six folders and cannot reorder them. Movement only adds to the nearest folder in the location I want to move to. I literally have no ability to relocate a folder or track.
Three months ago I thought this would be a cool feature. It only made the workflow more difficult.
Would love to be able to turn off feature.

Updated to WIN11. Now when project opens I get this error:
Unable to open audio device. Device may not support the current project's audio format or may be in use. For help please visit . . . . .
All seems to be ok in preferences. No other audio open. Have opened a different project & works ok.
Thanks for helping

So, all my softsynths give a midi track that communicates to an audio track that then reports to whatever your choice of output is. Am I unique?
