Hi @p-w-m the issue is this:

12175 WinHTTPSendRequest A security error occurred. This means your Windows operating system has not been configured for TLS 1.2. ... To configure your Windows operating system's WinHTTP stack for TLS 1.2, run Windows Update and make sure all updates have been installed.

Are you running Windows 7? This is a known issue where some systems don't have the latest TLS libraries installed. If you are running Windows 7 please be advised that it isn't a supported configuration for reasons like this.

See this thread for a solution.

    Noel,

Interesting to that the only win7 hickup I had to deal with are related to the upgrade new pholosophy that relies on something that comes wth edge (i've installed it, updated the sw....case closed).

and now TLS. I ran easyfix as you suggested and completedthe upgrade. Case close.

obviously thereare still many poeple running on W7 and I will venture the majority of them are, like, the ones who have paid their way up to splat.

New functionnalities not working I can live with that. My last 2 upgrade failures were annoying because I didn't know I needed to do something extra.

I have a suggestion That is easy and would be really nice

T futur upgrades on a basic W7 system and let us know what we need to pay attention.

Edge and the TLS easyfix were simple to do once I found  the threads that gave me the answer.

Give it some thought. For I'm sticking to W7 (it's mainly used offline) as long as the hardware last and obviously I'm not the only one.

    Keep on the good work.

2 year old hp Pavilion gaming laptop windows 10. Part of the Windows Insider group, laptop updated automatically to Windows 11,  no problems with Cakewalk, no problems with anything and a first for Windows, it actually loads and runs programs faster!

    I'm curious,

How many processes are running int background after the boot?

How much CPU do they use?

How much is used without anuthing running?

What if it appears ro be fast before nothing is actually if you compare it to win10 and I'm not talking about defender and microsoft updates and other apps doing funny business in the background.

Many years ago you start win95 and started making coffee.

    I could go forever...(-:

  3. Colin,

    1) I forgot about the theme group  but I tried to select another theme I got from that group and I had the red alert red alert warning box..

I'm not sure I want to waste my time with that so I'll stick with the mercury theme.

    2) the armed button I have in my default tunsteen theme is not what your picture show. Mine turn from a dot inside a square t a big one circle into a larger red circle.....thes the armed track on cocaine joke....(-:

    • Confused 1
  4. Ok I want to make a joke out of it and I know it's a legacy theme but it is (I know I'm stupid) a reason why I don't like to use it at the recording state (I need a life I know)

I have an idea why it was done like that would it be possible to take a few minutes (during a coffee break) to change the arm track icons in in all the views where it is use so that they don't look like they are on cocaine (a big white circle within a larger red circle) to make it the same shape as the Solo/mute buttons' icon?

Tweaking the m/s/r) button to make them the sharper (a nice clear green, yellow, red) ?

BUT DON'T REPLACE THE CURRENT THEME AS A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE PROBABLY LIKE IT AND ARE USE TO IT

PLEASE NO: JUST CALL IT TUNGSTEEN2 or whatever you like to make it a 3rd CBB supported theme

    NOTE

    1) When it was introduced (I can't remember if it was days one) I had found, thru many trials an error, a way to replace the button, making it a custom view but I've just installed the          latest version and know I had no choice to TOTALLY DELETE IT from the themes folder to stop getting the "invalid theme" warning message EVEN IF I had the mercury theme selected.

    2) This is also one reason why I would prefer it to be part of the default themes bundled as opposed to going with 3rd party's themes 'cause it's not fun to get use to something to                then have to drop it because code changes.

    Cheers!

@NoelBrutonMusic your concerns are unfounded. You do not need bandlab’s permission every time you use the application. Where did you read that information?  This is how it works:

    • You sign in to BandLab to activate the software once when you first install it
    • Activation is required generally once every 6 months unless something drastic changes on your system like you changed the version of windows or something.
    • In the latest release it refreshes your activation lease automatically when needed to save the user from unexpected discovery of a timeout
    • The lease is automatically renewed when you log in to BandLab, when you install a new version of the software and of course if its about to expire. This only happens if there is an internet connection available.
    • If you don’t want your system to be online you have to handle activation manually using the offline activation workflow.
    • Previously BandLab assistant was used for activation. This changed in the 2020.11 release and everything is done inside CbB now which makes things much simpler for the user. Now users only need to sign in ONCE to Cakewalk and from that point activation is handled automatically when needed as long as you don’t sign out of BandLab of course.

Its as unobtrusive as it gets and very standard to how everyone in the industry does this.
The changes were in fact made to improve things for users who got the activation timeout messages.

My main daw is running W7 which, as you did answerme, does notsupport login within cakewalk. But it worked with the BLAssistant....I can live withat.....

With the "refresh activation after installing an update instead of waitibg for 6 month" approach does this means that fromnow on I will have to launch the assistant to emulate this behavior?

    Mario

  6. - At least they stopped breaking W7 now that the can do it with W10...(-:

    - Inresting to see I can login to the assistant and initialize while I cannot login within the daw even though it's the same login window.......hilarious!

Oh and by the way....it's the same one to login to bandlab.com and to access this group via an IOS 9.xx Ipad.

    - The next step is to change something in the offline activation file with something that doesn't exist in the W7 supported libraries that will make it impossible to follow the offline activation process using the  W10 based  family W10 pc.

  7. Hi,

I finally got this "please reactivate within 12 days message but when I try to login within the cakewalk it fails to recognize

the same userid/pws I'm using to login directly to this newsgroup and bandlab.com.

Ideas on what is happing..........and yes I've checked my cap locks!

Note (1) : It's the app running on W7 that is failing....I've tried with W10 and it work

Please don't tell you're not properly supporting the login process on W7...plase, please!

Note (2) : As I was trying to follow the offline registration procedure, which involves using the bandlab assistant

I did the "refresh initialization" from there to see what happens. Well I don't know if I'm "activated" but

for the moment I'm not seeing the re-initialization request.

So I've narrowed it down to the cakewalk program internal process on a W7 machine. However at the same time I

tu the bandlab assistant, to bandlab.com & to cakewalk user forum......oh and I have restarted my PC once in the

    process.

    Thanks

    Mario

  8. I have a dedicated setup for my DAW but it's in the basement and I dream of being somewhere else in the house where there is mor day light.....so I'm starting to investigate laptop.

So.....Small disk space SSD or monster traditionnal HD?

BTW. I know the working concept of an SSD and I already a big external HD to keep my files.

Is this a big SSD no no, even focasual tracking?

Let's see what you 'all have to say.

  9. Any reason (s) why we still see multiple "bandlab assistant" process running (4) ?

    AND

signing out/close the application doesn't stop the process?

It's a day one thing, hopefully not doing funny things in the background.

I never leave 'em running ....I manually "end" them

    Mario

  10. Haven't been keeping up-to-date with the assistant for a while I decided to give it a go today.

I have access to the internet and my bandlab account since I'm posting this.

I get a "update failed" Sommething went wrong. Please try again.

    I login/logout/kill leftover tasks/etc.

I'am on W7. Could this give trouble with the assistant

    Thanks
