i notice that in the 2 screenshots, showing different parts of preferences, there are 2 "show start screen" options, in different areas - are these different versions? or are there really 2 checkboxes for "show start screen"?? 1 in File/Advanced, and 1 in Customisation/Display...

Well, that would be an odd exclusion considering the rest of the software is constantly being updated/developed!
I would think that any REPORTED problems with specific 32 bit VSTs are looked at
bitbridge was a buy-in of "fx teleport server" so who knows, don;t know if tey got the source code, or just a certain build of it? if it were being kept up to date then i wouldn't expect so many "just use jbridge" posts, or even the ability to use jbridge instead within cbb
i don't think they give a shit about 32bit plugs

i'm not sure bitbridge is being "kept up to date" either?

Meng has said repeatedly that CbB will *always* be free.
For now I'm going to continue with that belief.
given that you have to authenticate every 6 months(?) i'd say it's a free rental

fwiw, aren't midi buffers only relevant to realtime playback? (ie, not freeze/bounce/mixdown, which just take as long as they need?)

you can regularly find ableton live versions being resold for less than street price
here's live lite for 15 euros https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=526120&p=7431843&hilit=ableton#p7431843
here's intro (v9) https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=526801&p=7427507&hilit=ableton+intro#p7427507
live is absolutely the best software to use, erm, live

True and if the paths are not mixed in the with 64bit paths, removing the 32bit paths from the the scan path (and re-scanning) in preferences works too.
yep, should avoid mixing them together

The article is nice enough as far as being favorable in tone, but as far as grammar errors and content, it reads as if it were written by a high school sophomore, right down to the first 25% of it being lifted almost word-for-word from Wikipedia articles.
uk print media? probably an intern

or if all your 32 bit plugs are in the same folder, just rename that folder
It might be time to quit
