This is my friends computer, and he is afraid to touch the OS because he uses it when working from home.

I have nothing to add other than suggesting he back up his system drive, including a system image, to an external drive so that if there is a real problem he can just load the backup and pick up from there. Doing that would take the worry out of trying different things.

  2. Sometimes I try to close and re-open Cakewalk but the program doesn't launch so I have to use the Task Manager/Processes Tab to close Cakewalk (which is why I have the Task Manager pinned to my taskbar). This has never failed to close Cakewalk. However, I have had problems shutting down the VLC Media Player and the Task Manager/Processes Tab fails to shut it down, but ending the task in the Task Manager/Details Tab will shut it down. So, my suggestion is to see if Cakewalk is active in the Details Tab and end it there.

I used to be able to go into a MIDI event section in Sonar X3 by simply going to the "view" pulldown and choosing MIDI EVENTS. I see that this option no longer appears in CAkewalk. Can anyone tell me how I can bring this option up in Cakewalk? Thank you so much! :)

If you select a MIDI track and then open the Events window it will show the MIDI events for that track, if that helps. Also, once the Events window for that track opens, you can go to the events in other MIDI tracks in that window.

This short extract, of a longer piece still under composition, was inspired by a couple of programs. This is an experimental trip into the Cosmic Brain part 1.

I liked it. Very moody and evocative. I can hear this as background music for an animation. The two note bass figure sounds very timpani-ish, maybe doubled with a huge Taiko drum. Very cool. I'd fix that title, though. 🙂

The formula for dragging and dropping tracks to a new location described in the documentation does not work for audio tracks. How can I move tracks that need to be aligned in time with other tracks?

I'm not sure what method you are using but I have no problems clicking audio clips and dragging them to where I want them to go. Keep in mind that your Snap setting will affect how the clip can be dragged. If your Snap setting is Measure, or Whole Note, you won't be able to click and drag the clip anything smaller than that, like 1/4 or 1/8.  Anyway, to answer your question about alternate ways to move them, select the clip and then click Clip in the Track Inspector. This will display the clip's Properties. There you can manually edit the clip's start time. If you're unsure what that is, look at the start time of the clip you want the other one to line up with. You can also copy the start time from one clip and paste it into the start time of another clip. That's one way off the top of my head. Of course, this only works to move the clip around in the track it is in. If you want to move the clip to a different track, dragging and dropping is still the best method.

Is there a way to download and install Cakewalk without having to go through BandLab Assistant?

The reason I ask is what if one day the server becomes defunct or for some reason I cannot download Cakewalk? I would like to have a standalone download file that I know will always be accessible.

    Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Click the Cakewalk by BandLab link at the top of this page and select Download.

Azslow3, I did what you suggested, placed notes on the piano roll, then played around with the velocities. No luck. maybe I just reload the whole 7 + GB Acoustic Picked & hope it works. Was on sale for $ 75 and there are still a lot of things I can do with it...

I haven't read this entire thread but have you tried using CC:7 (Volume)? It's a cool controller because it can change the volume of a midi note while it's playing.

I tried to change the buffer but no change.

Wav and mp3 files sounds good, so seems no problem with headphones or Scarlett solo ,right ?

But when I load any instrument in Kontakt it has rattling distortion. Same when using Addictive keys.

I have talked to those people but they didnt know.

I have to run some errands but I have one last suggestion. Reinstall your Kontakt software if you haven't already. If you installed Cakewalk by BandLab while Kontakt was already on your system Cakewalk may not not be using it at optimum performance. I hope you can get this problem resolved because I know how frustrating it must be. Ah, one more thing... if you have access to another audio interface you could try using that to see if you still have the same problem. If not, the problem might be in your hardware.

    Sure my friend

Nothing jumps out as being out of the ordinary. What I would do, as part of the elimination process, is to move the Buffer Size slider all the way to the right/Safe position, just to rule that out if it isn't the problem. Also, do media files you play on your computer also have noise when played?

I've tried scanning and adding those folders. Currently trying a re-install og both toontrack and cakewalk

    Tommy

Yes, but it's good to know where those files are. I was suggestion you look in those folders and see where the files are. I have read that there may be problems if they are in a VST3 folder. It's moot if you are reinstalling, but I do suggest you see where the files are being installed to.

I have used Sonar Cakewalk with samplers and many, different programs for years and years, Native, Addictive, Real Guitar etcetera,  without any problems, top notch.

But now it's called Cakewalk by bandlab and I got no idea what the hell happened, it sounds like shit, yes it does.

For example, when I run KONTAKT with some instrument I have used for years, it sounds so bad I can no longer use it.

I have been mailing here and there for months, but no solution...

How the hell should any user know how to fix these sort of problems when not even those technicians know how to fix it ?

I use Scarlett solo 3 gene and all drivers are updated.

    Does anyone know here?

Is the vst 32 bit or 64 bit?

Chappel, I really appreciate you taking the time to do this!

I did exactly what you did, but the plugins are nowhere to be found on my computer.  When I follow the path, it leads me to a folder that says to install the plugins.   I don't see the plugins.    I have uninstalled and reinstalled it about 3 times at least.   I will try it again.

    Thanks!!

Let me lay out the exact steps I took to install the files.

    1. Right-Click the WinRAR file and extract it to a folder with the same name.

You should see something like this.

Go into the new folder and then go into the 1) Install Your Software folder.

Go into the 1)Install Your Software folder and open the SetupVST64 file to install the .dll files. You will be able to change the destination for the files, or use the default destination, before the installation begins. If you have done all this already, then I have no idea what the problem is. All I can say is, this worked for me and I hope it works for you.

Very good composition and performance! I really like it.
Not sure what you mean by "hybrid staff?"

Thanks. It's always nice to hear something positive. 🙂

The Hybrid Staff is the Piano Roll View. Sorry for the confusion. I think that's what Cakewalk called it a few decades ago. Old habits die hard.

  14. Kazoo sound? I don't know what part that is. The title was originally inspired by a girl named Kim I knew a long time ago who said if she ever started a band she would call it The Smiling Assassins.  I thought it sounded cool and asked her if she minded if I used it in one of my songs. She said "go for it". Within the context of the song it refers to women who broke my heart, killing me a little bit at a time. Every time a girl broke my heart I would die a little more. Smiling assassins = heart breakers. I think Kim's idea was more literal where mine is metaphorical.

  15. Okay, the I downloaded ( 64 bit ) WinRar file, unzipped it, ran the install file and it installed the files to C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins.

    16403332_VSTBundleDestinationFolder.JPG.4234a496a0d76d1bd73b42126ef68939.JPG

All the .dll files were properly installed in that directory.

Is your Plug-in Manager scanning the C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins directory? You may have to add that directory to the scanning locations . Open the Plug-in Manager and under VST configuration click Options, and then scan again. If you don't see the Steinberg folder listed you can add it to the list of directories to be scanned. A lot of plug-ins will install to the directory so it's a good one to add if you haven't already. That's all I got.

Yes, I contacted them.  They sent me a link to activate it.  I emailed them back and told them that wasn't the issue, and I haven't heard back.   So I thought I would try this forum.

    thanks

I'm downloading it now. I will try the installation and see if I can duplicate your problem.

  17. Thank you very much! I played the guitar melody as close as I could to the vocal melody. I'll be redoing it soon, adding the vocal, and putting the guitar melody towards the end with guitar and synth harmonies, as well as adding a guitar solo. I can't copy and paste it, and have to play it again, because the tempo is constantly changing throughout the song. I don't think there's more than a measure where the tempo is the same. Everything is in service to trying to making it sound like a live performance. Some might say "A good band can play at a constant tempo" and they would be right, but most of my formal music training was during my years in various a cappella choirs where the the tempo can be quite fluid. I've always liked that 'feel'.
