    But...

Software companies just seem to roll with the changes and damn the torpedoes!! To me it looks as if they tell themselves "The new technology is here, it ain't going away, we might as well adapt" regardless of what the majority of the user base wants or needs!!!

I did get Kontak on a good sale (thanks L***y!) but have barely used it. Not because it's not any good, I just haven't adapted to the UI yet.  I have played around a lot with it, but use it? Not sure I have used it in any song yet.

So I am gonna wait till the Komplete sale comes along.

I don't use any Kontakt library either. I jumped the ship joined the club way too late, I don't need anything particular.

That sounds like a nightmare for a developer though. Providing tech-support and service after the sale is challenging enough when everybody is on the same platform.  It would definitely increase the complexity on the developers side.

That's for sure. But then the product will appeal to a significantly bigger audience.

    Do you make Kontakt libraries?

That's one of the reasons I like being able to keep Kontakt 5 installed on it's own. I will likely keep both 5 and 6 installed once I do upgrade to 7.

    That's a good idea.

I'd also love to see companies to provide both K5/K6 and K7 versions of their VIs. HiDPI support in K7 is an important feature for many people, but not everyone needs or wants that.

I honestly don't see any reason to update yet. It took years for companies to really start making anything for Kontakt 6 that didn't use Player. Many companies are still developing their libraries using Kontakt 5. I'd personally say give it a year or so before spending the money because chances are, there isn't going to be much worth upgrading for.

Breaking backwards compatibility is profitable for software companies. I expect a wave of "Custom-tailored for K7" sample libraries.

Thanks Dave - I will give these a look.

You're welcome. Note that Unreal's guitar VIs don't have a strum engine

If you're interested in in AAS, and not in a hurry, AAS Strum Sessions goes on sale for $10-20 regularly, or even given away sometimes. Then you can upgrade to AAS Strum for $50 during sale.

I also want to share these links:

Looks intimidating at first, but I could achieve this level with a few weeks of modest practice. I don't use any strumming engine anymore.

i mainly use the stock ones.  i have a few custom ones i made because the strumming was too unique for a couple of songs i normally perform on a guitar (and i while i could simply play it, i'm currently in the mindset of teaching computers to play together 🙂 ) or i use a Kontakt based one if those AAS ones don't seem to do it. finally, i recently downloaded the (free) MONSTER Guitar vst but haven't played with it much yet. seems like it may also be something to use.

Metal GTX from Unreal Instruments also works well for me for prototyping hard rock riffs.

I've never heard of it and know nothing about it, but don't most of our DAWs already have these editing capabilities built in?

I think dedicated audio editing software like WaveLab, Audition, Sound Forge let you go more surgical with audio. They also have built-in tools for repairing, denoising, and likes.

That sure would be simpler! Wish I could control my neighbor from cutting his grass, or the airplanes overhead, or the dogs. I think you get my problem. I have no quiet tracking space.

Dynamic mics, Piezo pickups, soundhole pickups, playing inside the wardrobe...
