  1. A pad based sample player that would allow the user to assign all of it’s controls (folder and sample navigation, edit functions, parameters, etc …)to any midi controller the user chooses.

Samples should be able to be selected by pad or by kit, in real time, without having to stop CxB(Cakewalk) and load kits. It should be capable of loading samples on the fly. Example: I have a drum beat I created and looped, I don’t like the snare sample I’m using. I can just select that pad, navigate to whatever sample folder I keep my snares in, and using the sampler’s increment/decrement controls I’ve mapped to my controller, I “scroll” through each sample in real time and as I hear it being played by whatever midi pattern I’ve programmed. Once I find the sample I like and press select, it’s loaded onto the pad I’m using. All without having to stop playing the loop I’ve created.

Nothing gets in the way of creating drum parts like having to push stop, go back to your keyboard and mouse and click through sounds or worse yet, drag and drop, just to swap out a snare or kick. Scrolling through or using an increment/decrement set up is so much better workflow wise.

And, of course, the sampler player should have all of the usual bells and whistles of any good sampler. It doesn’t have to re-invent the wheel. Just be be good at the basics and be easy to use.

I am guessing this is about a DX-to-VST wrapped plug-in. AFAIK, the compressor does not work with the dxshell wrapper. I doubt BandLab will support dxshell wrapped plug-ins in any DAW. Feel free to contact support@cakewalk.com. There is no reason to use the wrapped plug-ins in CbB or any other DX host. Forget about using Sonitus compressor in anything other than a DX host.

To my knowledge, I'm not using a wrapper. Just the vst. Also, the other Sonitus plugs seem to work fine with the exception of one or two others.

One would think it would be the other way around. The DX versions wouldn't work, but the VST's would work fine.

Anyway, thanks for your input. I'll take it up with support going forward.

The only VST versions of Sonitus plug-ins were 32bit and never bundled with any Cakewalk DAW. They were available as a separate purchase and Cakewalk stopped selling the suite that include the 32bit VST format years ago.

The 64bit DX Sonitus Suite is bundled with CbB

Yes, but shouldn't the VST version still work in CxB (Cakewalk)?

BTW, I never bought a separate version of the Sonitus plugins.  I've only ever used the versions that came with Sonar, and now CxB (Cakewalk) over the years.

Bristol Jonesey-My instruments are all listed in my sig.

What I get from this is that the culprits are the virtual instruments.  I guess that means I'm stuck with the results because I can't afford the real expensive sample libraries.

    Thanks

It has nothing to do with the quality of the instruments. You'll have the same "claustrophobic" results if you had the most expensive sample libraries known to man. You just need to learn modern mixing techniques. Also, picking the right sounds helps a lot. That's all.

Cool! Thanks for that info. I will certainly save it.

Now this. I downloaded an upgrade from Waves. I had the H-Comp, which I like because I can use it as a sort of parallel comp with it's mix knob. I updated to get the whole H-Series because it was on sale, and I got even more off with an upgrade that didn't include the H-Comp. Don't worry, I've sent them an email, though I'm told not to expect much. Since THEN, now I get THIS:

I'm using the Pro-Channel EQ to try and isolate some noise. This is normally fine. I got the same message when I tried to adjust my H-Comp after it opened just fine. Just like this Cakewalk EQ.  NOW WHAT? I'll keep digging online, when all I want is to freaking MAKE SOME MUSIC.

Cakewalk says: CANNOT FIND OR OPEN FILE

I know how frustrating hings can get. Whenever you upgrade any plugins, make Cakewalk rescan your VST's. Usually what I do to sidestep any problems that may crop up from 3rd party vendors moving things around or whatnot. Rescan and see if that fixes it.
